We present an implementation of MEdX3dOM a MEdX3d standard implemented into the X3dOM framework. We present the report of a work in progress of the implementation identifying the critical sections to be migrated into the new architecture, and possible extensions of the standard on the web environment. Results for the early implementation are shown, where the visualization of medical datasets with advanced direct volume rendering algorithms are obtained under the X3dOM architecture with interactive frame rates and good image quality. An example of the HTML5/X3dOM document is presented with future.

In this paper we show our conceptual approach of how easy it can be to develop web apps that provide real-time 3d support, behave like native apps and run platform independently on smartphones, tablets (e.g., iPad), and on desktop computers. this reduces development efforts while moving to a distributed application model. the concept is completely based on standard web technologies like HTML5, CSS3, dOM scripting, and Ajax. 3d rendering happens entirely on the client-side by utilizing X3dOM and webGL respectively. In the context of virtual museums web apps can be used to give visitors and also experts such as curators the possibility to examine virtual heritage objects. By interacting with the 3d model more details can be explored, additional information in form of metadata and annotations can be obtained and also created, and finally the navigation to external resources is supported, too. It is also possible to inspect related objects of similar type, even if they are situated in locations that are far away.

Large virtual 3d scenes play a major role in growing number of applications, systems, and technologies to effectively communicate complex spatial information. their web-based provision, in particular on mobile devices, represents a key challenge for system and application development. In contrast to approaches based on streaming 3d scene data to clients, our approach splits 3d rendering into two processes: A server process is responsible for realtime rendering of virtual panoramas, represented by G-buffer cube maps, for a requested camera setting. the client reconstruction process uses these cube maps to reconstruct the 3d scene and allows users to operate on and interact with that representation. the key properties of this approach include that (a) the complexity of transmitted data not depend on the 3d scene's complexity;(b) 3d rendering can take place within a controlled and a-priori known server environment;(c) crucial 3d model data never leaves the server environment;and (d) the clients can flexibly extend the 3d cube map viewer by adding both local 3d models and specialized 3d operations.

As 3d on the web gains momentum via standards such as webGL and webXR, a reoccurring frustration among web developers is inability to leverage 2d web technologies within immersive presentation contexts. the use-cases for blending 2d and 3d web content include progressive enhancement of 2d web pages, re-use of existing 2d web content, and layout/design of complex interactive user interfaces for 3d environments. We introduce webLayer3d, a JavaScript plugin for *** (a popular 3d scene-graph library) that makes it easy for web developers to integrate live interactive 2d web content (built using standard web technologies) into a 3d scene (rendered using webGL). In this paper, we demonstrate that existing dOM-to-Texture techniques (when used thoughtfully) are sufficient for enabling a performant, flexible, and simple approach to building interactive 3d user interfaces for the immersive web.

the web evolved from a simple information medium to an interactive application platform featuring advanced 2d layouts, videos, and audio. At the same time, support for hardware-accelerated 3d graphics improves continuously even among mobile devices. Hence, there is a renewed interest in adding interactive 3d graphics to the overall web experience and therefore a need for high-performance data processing beyond dOM modifications through JavaScript. A challenge in adding this functionality to web technologies is to close the deep gap between low-level hardware programming (e.g. using webGL or webCL) and high-level web development with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. In this paper we present Xflow, a system for declarative, high-performance data processing. In combination with XML3d, it allows web developers to combine a 3d scene graph with dataflows. Our approach is general enough to allow meshes, shaders, texture samplers and the canvas itself as sink of these dataflows. thus it enables data processing e.g. for dynamic meshes, animation of shader parameters, image processing and post processing. In this first stage, we define a set of generic building blocks that can be used to construct more complex operations. this gives a large degree of flexibility, but is still abstract enough to increase ease-of-use and ensure security. To maximize performance, dataflows are automatically connected to the render pipeline and mapped to both CPU and GPU, thus harnessing parallelization. In order to evaluate our system, we have created a number of examples. © 2012 ACM.

A few years ago, the introduction of the webGL API has allowed displaying 3d content in web browsers very efficiently by using the power of 3d accelerators. Nowadays, 3d web applications, from games to medical imaging, tend to compete with their desktop counterparts. Among the main factors that can improve the feeling of presence in terms of impressiveness, immersion and natural interaction play a prominent role in enhancing the quality of the user experience. Both immersion and natural interaction rely on dedicated hardware like 3d displays and tracking devices. Unfortunately, browser makers do not supply JavaScript mechanisms for accessing hardware for security reasons. In this paper, we propose a plugin-free solution using the new features of HTML5 (webGL and webSockets) in order to handle autostereoscopic displays and widespread tracking devices like IR depth sensors for providing immersion and natural interaction within the web browser.

We introduce an approach for efficient distribution and adaptive rendering of 31) mesh models supporting a simple quad parameterization. Our method extends and combines recent results in geometric processing, real-time rendering, and web programming In particular: we exploit recent results on surface reconstruction and isometric parametrization to transform point clouds into two manifold meshes whose parametrization domain is a small collection of 2L) square regions;we encode the resulting parameterized meshes into a very compact multiresolution structures composed of variable resolution quad patches whose geometry and texture is stored in a tightly packed texture atlas;we adaptively stream and render variable resolution shape representations using a GPUaccelerated adaptive tessellation algorithm with negligible CPU overhead. Real-time performance is achieved on portable GPLI platforms using OpenGL, as well as on exploiting emerging web based environments based on Wet)G1. Promising applications of the technology range from the automatic creation of rapidly renderable objects for games to the set-up of browsable 3d models repositories in the web that will be accessible by upcoming generation of webG1,-enabled web hrowers.

X3d supports a variety of media types to be used in 3d scenes, like images, videos or other X3d models. A scene can dynamically load and replace this media during runtime, but since there is no way to communicate directly with outside sources like a server, all data sources need to be known in advance. this problem is usually solved by using interfaces like SAI, which allow external applications to modify the current scene. But this solution makes it necessary to set up all the communication via SAI and have the external application communicate with a server. In this paper, we will show how XMLHttpRequest, an object common in web browsers, can be used to handle the communication from within the X3d Browser. We will show how well this approach fits into the X3d environment and how easy this can be implemented in an X3d Browser. Afterwards, some examples will show the benefits in real applications and how easy this solution is to use.

We report on the 3dNSITE system, a web-based client-server 3d visualization tool for streaming and visualizing large tridimensional hybrid data (georeferenced point clouds and photographs with associated viewpoints and camera parameters). the system is motivated by the need to simplify data acquisition and location recognition for crisis managers and first responders during emergency operations or training sessions. In this peculiar context, it is very important to easily share 3d environment data among people in a distributed environment, accessing huge 3d models with embedded photographs on devices with heterogenous hardware capabilities and interconnected on different network types. Moreover, since the specific end-users are not necessary skilled with virtual reality and 3d objects interaction, the navigation interface must be simple and intuitive. Taking into account these constraints, we propose a mixel object-based/image-based system, which enhances the current state-of-the-art by exploiting a multi-resolution representation for the 3d model and a multi-level cache system for both the images and 3d models structure. A novel low-degree-of-freedom user interface is presented to navigate in the scenario with touchscreen devices. the proposed implementation, included in a more general training and decision framework for emergency operations, is evaluated on real-world datasets.

In this paper we present the implementation of a webGL Talking [lead for (OS mobile devices (Apple iPhone and iPad). it works on standard MPEG-4 Facial Animation Parameters (FAPs) and speaks with the Italian version of FESTIVAL TTS. It is totally based on true real human data. the 31) kinematics information are used to create lips articulatory model and to drive directly the talking face, generating human facial movements. In the last year we developed the webGL version of the avatar. webGL, which is 3d graphic for the web, is currently supported in the major web browsers for desktop computers. No official support has been given for mobile device main platforms yet, although the Firefox beta version enables it on android phones. Starting from iOS 5 webGL is enabled only for the advertisement library class (which is intended for placing ad banners in applications). We have been able to use this feature to visualize and animate our webGL talking head.
