One of the key challenges in 5G (and beyond 5G) networks is to provide seamless service with user mobility, both at application and network layers. In the former, applications need to be migrated between edge sites; while in the latter User Equipment (UE) network service is handed over between 5G cells during handover. Without proper management of synchronization and control mechanisms between these two layers, both these mobility types would result in service interruptions to users. the recent intent-based management specification from the O-RAN alliance could be a step in the direction of seamlessly unifying these two types to ensure service continuity. However, this specification is still in a nascent stage. In this position paper, therefore, we analyze this mobility issue and propose enhancements to the O-RAN specification that can support seamless cross-layer mobility at both application and network layers.

Water is a significant resource in day-to-day life, and it usually requires technological association for comprehensive management. Smart Water Grids (SWG) typically use cyberphysical systems (CPS) to monitor several parameters associated with water quality and distribution, leveraging the possibility of performing remote operations. For robust architecture, remote operations rely on application-specific sensors, communication networks, edge control, and cloud computation. Needless to say, the centralized control of edge and cloud infrastructure is prone to attacks and failures, such as unauthorized access or single-point-of-failure. We propose TruChain, a Blockchain-based access control mechanism to eliminate the probability of access takeover and aggregate quorum-based validation on sensory data for transparent provenance reliability. We also provide access revocation to strengthen security by restricting access to sensitive data stored in a privately distributed cloud. We believe our solution has empirical decentralization and a verifiable authorization method by maintaining a tamper-evident, auditable trail of interactive events, building trust without third-party intervention.

the rise of the industrial metaverse has brought digital twins (DTs) to the forefront. Blockchain-powered non-fungible tokens (NFTs) offer a decentralized approach to creating and owning these cloneable DTs. However, the potential for unauthorized duplication, or counterfeiting, poses a significant threat to the security of NFT-DTs. Existing NFT clone detection methods often rely on static information like metadata and images, which can be easily manipulated. To address these limitations, we propose a novel deep-learning-based solution as a combination of an autoencoder and RNN-based classifier. this solution enables real-time pattern recognition to detect fake NFT-DTs. Additionally, we introduce the concept of dynamic metadata, providing a more reliable way to verify authenticity through AI-integrated smart contracts. By effectively identifying counterfeit DTs, our system contributes to strengthening the security of NFT-based assets in the metaverse.

the millimeter wave (mmW) frequency spectrum has been explored recently for large bandwidth communication. At these frequencies, narrow directional beams are required for communication since the signal attenuation is high due to atmospheric absorption. this work presents an AMD RFSoC and Sivers Semiconductors analog front-end based hardware testbed capable of directional communication via analog beamforming at mmW. the proposed testbed comprises orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based baseband physical layer and digital front-end on an ARM processor and field programmable gate array (FPGA), respectively, integrated with high-speed data converters of the RFSoC. the RFSoC output at sub-6GHz is integrated with a mmW multi-antenna analog-front end for over-the-air communication at 29.8 GHz. We demonstrate end-to-end communication over the air and present bit error rate (BER) analysis in the presence of radio frequency impairments and beam misalignments in real radio channels.

With the rapid increase in mobile IP traffic, driven primarily by video content, there is a pressing need to improve caching efficiency at the wireless edge to enhance content delivery and alleviate both the backhaul and last-mile network segments. Traditional caching policies, such as Least Recently Used (LRU) and Least Frequently Used (LFU), lack adaptability in dynamic environments and are often insufficient for end-user devices with limited storage and computational power. this paper introduces Smart-Wi-Cache, a deep learning-based online caching frame-work specifically designed for end-user devices at the wireless edge. the core of this approach is LSTM-Replace, an LSTM-based cache replacement policy that predicts content requests at the device level, enabling end-user devices to cache high-demand content. Extensive simulations demonstrate that LSTM-Replace significantly improves cache hit rates compared to traditional caching methods.

Cooperative driving that prioritizes global safety and efficiency over self-interest is crucial in ensuring smooth traffic flow and enhanced road safety. However, experiencing noncooperative driving is common under heterogeneous and chaotic on-road traffic conditions. While non-cooperativeness is often context-dependent and assessed during direct vehicle interactions, it can be inferred through longitudinal analysis of driving patterns from vehicular kinematics data. this behavior not only adversely affects the vehicle itself but also has a cascading impact on nearby vehicles, ultimately disrupting overall traffic flow. In this study, we quantify a vehicle’s non-cooperativeness using kinematic data and further model its cascading effects on nearby cooperative vehicles. Experimental analysis was conducted using the SUMO traffic simulator and the TraCI interface to assess the impact of non-cooperativeness on overall traffic dynamics. this research is among the first to examine the cascading effects of a vehicle’s non-cooperativeness on its cooperative nearby vehicles.

Accurate real-time traffic forecasting is essential for intelligent traffic systems and urban planning but remains challenging due to the complexity of road networks and dynamic, time-dependent changes. To address this, we propose TMGCN-ATT, a novel model that combines Multi-Hop Graph Convolutional networks (MGCN) to capture spatial dependencies and Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) with a self-attention mechanism to model temporal dynamics in traffic data. the multi-hop GCN aggregates information from distant nodes, capturing higher-order spatial relationships, which the GRU then processes with self-attention to learn temporal patterns. the performance of the model is evaluated using four metrics: accuracy, root mean squared error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and the coefficient of determination (R 2 ). Experimental results demonstrate that TMGCN-ATT consistently surpasses baseline models such as SVR, GRU, GCN, and TGCN across two urban traffic datasets, Los-Loop and SZ-Taxi. In traffic forecasting tasks, TMGCN-ATT achieves an average accuracy of 83.65% and an MAE of 2.5 across the two datasets.

Multivariate anomaly detection finds its importance in diverse applications. Despite the existence of many detectors to solve this problem, one cannot simply define why an obtained anomaly inferred by the detector is anomalous. this reasoning is required for network operators to understand the root cause of the anomaly and the remedial action that should be taken to counteract its occurrence. Existing solutions in explainable AI may give cues to features that influence an anomaly, but they do not formulate generalizable rules that can be assessed by a domain expert. Furthermore, not all outliers are anomalous in a business sense. there is an unfulfilled need for a system that can interpret anomalies predicted by a multivariate anomaly detector and map these patterns to actionable rules. this paper aims to fulfill this need by proposing a semi-autonomous anomaly rule miner. the proposed method is applicable to both discrete and time series data and is tailored for radio access network (RAN) anomaly detection use cases. the proposed method is demonstrated in this paper with time series RAN data.

In this work, we propose a two-phased approach to detect and deter ransomware in real-time. We leverage the capabilities of eBPF (Extended Berkeley Packet Filter) and artificial intelligence (AI) to develop proactive and reactive methods. In the first phase, we utilize signature-based detection, where we employ custom eBPF programs to trace the execution of new processes and perform hash-based analysis against a known ransomware dataset. In the second, we employ a behavior-based technique that focuses on monitoring the process activities using a custom eBPF program and the creation of ransom notes — a prominent indicator of ransomware activity through the use of Natural Language Processing (NLP). By leveraging eBPF’s low-level tracing capabilities and integrating NLP based machine learning algorithms, our solution achieves an impressive 99.79% accuracy in identifying ransomware incidents within a few seconds on the onset of zero-day attacks.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of a multi-hop unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-based free space optics (FSO) communication system over the recently introduced doubly inverted Gamma-Gamma (IGGG) turbulence channel model. the system assumes a decode-and-forward (DF) relaying strategy, enabling flexible deployment for line-of-sight (LoS) communication between UAVs and ground nodes. Linear energy harvesting techniques are employed at each relay to improve power efficiency. the channel modeling incorporates key impairments, including atmospheric turbulence, non-zero boresight pointing errors, path loss, and angle-of-arrival (AoA) fluctuations. We derive the closed-form expressions for the proposed system's probability density function (PDF), cumulative distribution function (CDF), outage probability, and ergodic capacity. In addition, the diversity gain and outage floor are calculated from the asymptotic analysis. the derived analytical expressions are validated through Monte-Carlo simulations, showing excellent agreement with numerical results.
