Urban built-up area is one of the important criterions of urbanization. Remote sensing can quickly acquire dynamic temporal and spatial variation of urban built-up area, but how to identify and extract urban built-up area information from massive remote sensing data has become a bottleneck arousing widespread concerns in the field of the data mining and application for remote sensing. Based on the traditional urban built-up area identification and data mining of remote sensing, this paper proposed a new collaborative computing method for urban built-up area identification from remote sensing image. In the method, the normalized difference built-up index (NDBI) and the normalized differential vegetation index (NDVI) feature images were constructed firstly from the spectrum clustering map;and then the urban built-up area was identified and extracted by the map-spectrum synergy and mathematical morphology methods. Finally, a case of collaborative computing of urban built-up areas in Chongqing city, China is presented. And the experimental results show that the total accuracy of urban built-up area identification in 1988 and 2007 reached 92.58% and 91.41%, the Kappa coefficient reached 0.8933 and 0.8722, respectively, and the good results in the temporal and spatial variation monitoring of urban built-up area are achieved. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Network traffic measurement is vital to network applications such as network anomalies detection, capacity planning, and congestion alleviation. Traditional switches sample a small portion of packets and send them to CPU for analysis. However, with sampling rates as low as 0.1%, sampling methods are inaccurate. Faced with the predicament, emerging programmable switches achieve measure functionality to a certain extent. Nevertheless, existing methods depend on CPU to drain and clear the records periodically, which brings in too much communication latency. To avoid disadvantages above and explore the processing ability of modern programmable switches, we proposed a time-based measuring algorithm named TBSW. TBSW is designed to measure the number of packets during an interval accurately with little hardware resource usage. To the best of our knowledge, TBSW is the first to utilize the time information for network traffic measurement. We prototype TBSW in P4 language and run it on Barefoot Tofino switch. Results showed TBSW achieves high efficiency and moderate accuracy at line speed. © 2019 IEEE.

From IoT to extreme scale computing, data and computing has never been as distributed with potential for real-time integration via fast networking and container management. the growth of new processors over the last decade including GPUs, FPGAs, and edge accelerators opened the way to a diverse set of applications using machine learning on top of distributed nontraditional hardware. the common theme to these applications, mostly composed of artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, is their need to run in specialized environments for reasons such as on demand or 24×7 nature of the tasks they are performing, and difficulties regarding their portability, latency, privacy and performance optimization. In many data-driven scientific applications there is a need for integration of these AI-workloads with traditional high-throughput computing (HTC) or high-performance computing (HPC) tasks for AI-integrated science. this talk will discuss example AI-integrated applications, describe some of the new systems that enabled these applications, and overview our recent research to enable composable applications including an application development methodology, intelligent middleware and workflow composition.

Hardware and software lightweight solutions became the mainstream for current and future emerging technologies. Container-based virtualization provides more efficient and faster solutions than traditional virtual machines, offering good scalability, flexibility, and multi-tenancy. they are capable of serving in a heterogeneous and dynamic environment across multiple domains, including IoT, cloud, fog, and multi-access edge computing. In this paper, we propose a lightweight solution for LCC (Live Container Cloud) that permits the user to access live/remote cloud resources faster. LCC can be embedded as a fog/edge node to permit the users to allocate and deallocate cloud resources. the performance of such a containerization technology is presented. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

In this paper, a method for measuring the grounding resistance of the tower without disconnecting all the down conductors is proposed for the first time in view of the shortage of manual measurement of the grounding resistance of the tower. this paper introduces the measurement model of single or multiple down conductors, and uses a hybrid genetic algorithm to comprehensively calculate the grounding resistance of all towers in the closed loop, which greatly improves the measurement accuracy. through simulation analysis and actual measurement, it proves that the method is simple and convenient to measure, does not need to disconnect the grounding wire, and has high measurement accuracy. Compared with the clamp ammeter method, the accuracy is improved by 30%. the method is applied to the on-line monitoring system of the tower grounding resistance, which can reduce the labor intensity of the line maintenance personnel, greatly improve the work efficiency and provide a basis for discovering the fault in time. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

thompson sampling is one of the most effective strategies to balance exploration-exploitation trade-off. It has been applied in a variety of domains and achieved remarkable success. thompson sampling makes decisions in a noisy but stationary environment by accumulating uncertain information over time to improve prediction accuracy. In highly dynamic domains, however, the environment undergoes frequent and unpredictable changes. Making decisions in such an environment should rely on current information. therefore, standard thompson sampling may perform poorly in these domains. Here we present a collaborative thompson sampling algorithm to apply the exploration-exploitation strategy to highly dynamic settings. the algorithm takes collaborative effects into account by dynamically clustering users into groups, and the feedback of all users in the same group will help to estimate the expected reward in the current context to find the optimal choice. Incorporating collaborative effects into thompson sampling allows to capture real-time changes of the environment and adjust decision making strategy accordingly. We compare our algorithm with standard thompson sampling algorithms on two real-world datasets. Our algorithm shows accelerated convergence and improved prediction performance in collaborative environments. We also provide a regret analysis of our algorithm on a non-contextual model. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

the number of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) applications has increased over the past few years. Among all scenarios, UAV group consisting multi-UAVs is normally used to provide extensible communications. As a networking solution, Flying Ad Hoc Networks (FANETs) routing with ideal routing performance is the prerequisite of the multi-UAV application. Regarding the high construction cost of devices for FANETs, it is infeasible to build the real experimental environment, hundreds of UAVs are needed. In this case, network simulation is the most common mean to study FANETs in most cases. For FANETs, the mobility of UAV nodes has an important impact on the simulation results. thus, a mobility model which can fit into specific environments well is necessary. Traditional mobility models of FANETs are mainly designed for planar scenarios without considering the actual application of FANETs which is three-dimensional (3D). therefore, in this paper, firstly, the characteristics of UAVs is analyzed and then the key points of 3D mobility model for FANETs are presented. In this context, we propose a 3D Smooth Random Walk (3DSRW) mobility model, which intends to mimic the mobility of UAVs to the greatest extent. then, we conduct simulations to get the network performance of AODV to verify the performance gap between 2D and 3D environment, in order to demonstrate the validity of our proposal. To further present the usage of our proposal, we show the performance of four routing protocols, including AODV, DSDV, OLSR and GPSR under the 3DSRW-constucted 3D environment, and analyzed their applicability in 3D environment. © 2019 IEEE.

Managing the huge IoT infrastructure poses a vital challenge to the network community. Software Defined networking (SDN), due to its characteristics of centralized network management has been considered as an optimal choice to manage IoT. Edge computing brings cloud recourses near the IoT to localize the cloud demands. Consequently, SDN, IoT, and edge computing can be combined into a framework to create a resourceful SDIoT-Edge architecture to efficiently orchestrate cloud services and utilize resource-limited IoT devices in a flexible way. Besides a wide adoption of IoT, the vulnerabilities present in this less secure infrastructure can be exploited by the adversaries to attack the OpenFlow channel using Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. DDoS on OpenFlow channel have the ability to disrupt the whole network hence, providing security for the OpenFlow channel is a key challenge in SDIoT-Edge. We propose a security framework called SDIoT-Edge Security (SIESec) against the security vulnerabilities present in this architecture. SIESec prototype employs machine learning-based classification strategy, blacklist integration, and contextual network flow filtering to efficiently defend against the DDoS attacks. We perform extensive simulations using Floodlight controller and Mininet network emulator. Our results proclaim that SIESec provides extensive security against OpenFlow channel DDoS attacks and pose a very less overhead on the network. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

the next-generation network system is envisioned to be a multi-service network supporting different applications with multiple requirements. In this vision, Network SLicing (NSL) is considered a key mechanism to create multiple virtual networks over the same physical infrastructure. However, it is a challenging problem to deploy NSL with great flexibility. In this paper, we propose a novel SDN/NFV based NSL creation system, which includes the design domain, execution domain, and infrastructure domain. With these components, tenants can create NSL freely via an easy-to-use UI on a web browser.
