With the rapid development of location-based social networks (LBSNs), more and more people form the habit of sharing locations with their friends. Point of interest (POI) recommendation is aiming to recommend new places for users when they explore their surroundings. How to make proper recommendation has been a key point on the basis of existing information. In this paper, we propose a novel POI recommendation approach by fusing user preference, geographical influence and social reputation. TFIDF is used to represent user preference. then, we further improve recommendation model by incorporating geographical distance and popularity. In the dataset, we find friends in LBSNs share low common visited POIs. Instead of directly getting recommendation from friends, users attain recommendation from others according to their reputation in the LBSNs. Finally, experimental results on real-world dataset demonstrate that the proposed method performs much better than other recommendation methods.

Underwater sensor networks (UWSNs) have caused wide-spread concern of academia due to their wide range of applications. Efficient energy depletion and avoiding energy holes are the important issues. In this paper, we study on the theoretical aspects of the non-uniform node distribution strategy in the 3-D underwater environment, which aim to mitigate the energy holes and balance energy depletion of nodes in the 3-D underwater sensor networks. Based on extensive analysis and theoretical proofs, the absolute balanced energy depletion in the whole underwater sensor networks is not achievable, while the maximized balanced energy depletion except for the nodes in the outermost AGR (Annular Globular Region) is possible. Furthermore, we propose a non-uniform distribution routing algorithm based the minimum energy consumption called MEC to address the energy hole problems and prolong the network lifetime. Extensive simulations show that the network achieves a high energy efficiency, less than 5% of total initial energy is wasted and the network lifetime is prolonged more than 400% compared with the uniform node distribution strategy.

Indoor, underground, or underwater three-dimensional (3D) localization provides fundamental support to the applications of mobile wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In these applications, a single robot cannot work, as there are no GPS signals and few references for the robot to loalizae itself in the large in-door spaces. Existing in-door localization approaches usually rely on the projection of the 3D topology graph onto a horizontal plane. Such projection is infeasible in a narrow vertical space, either, since it requires three location-known nodes, called anchors, as reference nodes on a large horizontal plane. In this paper, we propose a new distributed 3D localization protocol, FlagLoc, for the mobile WSNs. FlagLoc uses a flag that is composed of three anchor nodes on a plane of any angle to start the localization and to lead the network motion of a mobile WSN. Furthermore, FlagLoc compensates for distance and motion measurement errors. the evaluation shows that FlagLoc significantly outperforms the existing state-of-the-art schemes in terms of accuracy.

Social recommendation has attracted increasing attention over the years due to the potential value of social relations, which can be harnessed to mitigate the dilemma of data sparsity in traditional recommender systems. However, recent studies show that social recommenders fail in the practical use in industry for the reason that some problems in social relations, such as the noise, lead to a degradation in recommendation quality. To solve the problem, in this paper, a social recommender, SocialEM, which integrates the neural user embedding and collaborative filtering is proposed. Enlightened by the factorization of the word co-occurrence matrix which is equivalent to the skip-gram model in word2vec, SocialEM will jointly decomposes the user-item rating matrix and the user-user co-occurrence matrix with shared user latent factors. For each pair of users, the co-occurrence matrix encodes the number of being trusted together by other users in the social relation network. Experiments conducted on the real-world datasets have shown that the side effect of social relations can be diminished by tuning parameters for SocialEM. And compared with previous studies, our method significantly improves the quality of recommendations.

this paper introduces HSAStore, a newly designed storage system whose goal goes to build an efficient storage system for computing systems that containing large-scale intermediate data. HSAStore involves three sub-systems to work together, a distributed file system which is in charge of the intermediate data, a centralized Network Attached Storage (NAS) which stores the raw input data and the results data, and a local file system that serves for the local data. the HSAStore takes full advantage of the network bandwidth of the computing cluster. Moreover, HSAStore adopts the distributed file system, so it is helpful for efficient execution of parallel programs. Experiments show that HSAStore has a significant improvement on efficiency in the computing systems that containing large-scale intermediate data.

In transportation business, the passenger flow analysis counts the ridership of given bus stops on given time duration. On the smart card data from the card readers of buses, the calculation of passenger flow faces challenges: the accuracy or the latency is blamed, and the scalability is poor on large volume data. In this paper, we propose an effective method on massive smart card data, in which ride behaviors are modeled and the passenger flow can be achieved and efficiently. Our method is implemented by Hadoop MapReduce, and proves minute-level latencies on weekly historical data with nearly linear scalability.

For typical Multi-Paxos protocol running on a cloud storage application, the failover mechanism is complex in terms of implementation. When the leader fails within a replica group, a new leader should be elected by broadcasting prepare requests over the replica group. Moreover, repairing new leader’s missing log entries requires broadcasting prepare request as well. this introduces too much network cost and increase the latency to restore normal storage service at the same time. In view of this challenge, an optimization for Multi-Paxos protocol with centralized failover mechanism for cloud storage applications is proposed in this paper. Compared with typical Multi-Paxos protocol, failover mechanism and normal client requests handling logic are split, and been handled by two clusters respectively: A coordinator cluster is dedicated to handle failover issues as a central manager;while a data cluster only takes charge of data replication and storage regarding client commands. With the centralized failover mechanism in the new design, the centralized coordinator cluster maintains real-time status information of each replica group. And a replica with largest apply index value is elected as the new leader by coordinator cluster;while repairing missing log entries can be achieved with limited replica’s bitmap information maintained by coordinator cluster as well. Comparison between two protocols is implemented and analyzed to prove the feasibility of our proposal. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

In a heterogeneous cluster, how to handle load balancing is an urgent problem. this paper proposes a method of load balancing based on node features. the method first analyses the main indexes that determine node performance. then, a formula is defined to describe the node performance based on the contributions of those indexes. We combine node performance with node busy status to calculate the relative load value. By analysing the relative load value of each node and the cluster storage utilization rate, the recommended value of the storage utilization rate for each node is calculated. Finally, the balancer threshold is generated dynamically based on the current cluster's disk load. the results of experiments show that the load balancing method proposed in this paper provides a more reasonable equilibrium for heterogeneous clusters, improves efficiency and substantially reduces the execution time.

Service Function Chain (SFC) has been an inevitable element for the development of Network Function Virtualization (NFV). SFC usually consists of some Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) such as firewall and network address translation (NAT). Although SFC inherently has scalability and flexibility, the routing for composing SFC and the VNF deployment tend to consume computing and network resources. Besides, multiple and simultaneous VNF failures inflict heavy damage on SFCs. this paper formulates a minimization problem of computing resource usage and a network resource usage for SFC against multiple VNF failures. Our proposed methods of SFC routing and VNF deployment aim to minimize the cost specified with the computing and network resources. Specifically, our SFC routing algorithm employs the k-node disjoint shortest path, and our VNF deployment algorithm employs the generalized assignment problem (GAP) and the set-cover problem. the paper also mentions intractability on the minimization problem and demonstrates the effectiveness of our solving method by conducting comparison experiments.

the end-to-end QoS of a data processing pipeline (DPP) depends upon the performance of its constituent software services. their performance, in turn, depends upon several factors including (a) the amount of computing resources allocated to each service, (b) the configuration of each service, (c) the inter-dependencies between adjacent services, (d) the data ingestion rate, and (e) the specific tasks each service is assigned. this makes end-to-end quality-assured cloud resource allocation for DPPs a complex and challenging task. Our overall research objective is to develop mechanisms for dynamic resource allocation for services in a pipeline so as to ensure end-to-end QoS while optimizing the associated costs. To that end, in this paper, we propose a systematic approach for building a sustainable QoS model for constituent services, which can then be used to inform resource allocation decisions for the pipeline in response to fluctuating workloads. We demonstrate the proposed approach using a custom DPP for traffic monitoring deployed on the NeCTAR cloud infrastructure.
