Tax evasion detection plays a crucial role in addressing tax revenue loss. Many efforts have been made to develop tax evasion detection models by leveraging machine learning techniques, but they have not constructed a uniform model for different geographical regions because an ample supply of training examples is a fundamental prerequisite for an effective detection model. When sufficient tax data are not readily available, the development of a representative detection model is more difficult due to unequal feature distributions in different regions. Existing methods face a challenge in explaining and tracing derived results. To overcome these challenges, we propose an Inter-Region Tax Evasion Detection method based on Transfer Learning (IRTED-TL), which is optimized to simultaneously augment training data and induce interpretability into the detection model. We exploit evasion-related knowledge in one region and leverage transfer learning techniques to reinforce the tax evasion detection tasks of other regions in which training examples are lacking. We provide a unified framework that takes advantage of auxiliary data using a transfer learning mechanism and builds an interpretable classifier for inter-region tax evasion detection. Experimental tests based on real-world tax data demonstrate that the IRTED-TL can detect tax evaders with higher accuracy and better interpretability than existing methods.

With the advent of the Internet, crowdsourcing platforms are a viable option for the solicitation of labor and distribution of tasks, online. As platforms develop, expand, and evolve, they employ various approaches to assist job owners and workers in searching for suitable tasks where workers' skillsets and job requirements are aligned and compatible. Recommender systems provide a suitable candidate for such purposes and can assist in worker-job matching. In this paper, through experimentation, we investigate the effect that growth in the labor force and job catalog has on the times to produce recommendations, the jobs recommended to workers and the precision of our collaborative-filtering-oriented bottom-up recommender.

In distributed collaborative systems, participants maintain a replicated copy of shared documents. they edit their own copy and then share their modifications without any coordination. Copies follow successions of divergence and convergence. Convergence is a liveness property of collaborative systems. Some malicious participants may find an advantage to make the collaboration fail. To that end, they can preclude convergence of the copies. To protect convergence of copies, participants can exploit an authenticated log of modifications. New participants have to retrieve the entire log in order to contribute. Unfortunately, the cost of joining a collaboration increases with the size of this log. Causal Stability allows to prune authenticated logs in a static collaborative group without any malicious participants. In this paper, we first tailor Causal Stability to dynamic groups in presence of malicious participants. We then propose a mechanism to verify the consistency of a pruned log and a mechanism to authenticate a snapshot from a pruned log.

Over the years the use of Social networking sites (SNSs) has grown tremendously. this popularity has led to the incessant need for marketers to concentrate advertising through these websites. the need of the hour is therefore to develop advertising strategies which are effective and efficient. With new SNS being launched each day, the important decision is to determine which SNS is the most appropriate for advertising for a firm. there are many forms and options of SNSs available with different purposes which allow the people to interact with each other such as social connection (facebook, google+, etc.), multimedia sharing (youtube, flickr, etc.), professional (linkedln, classroom 2.0, etc.), hobbies (on my bloom, pinterest, etc.), academic (researchgate, ***, etc.), etc. Due to increase in the types of SNSs, the evaluation and selection of right SNS have become a complex problem for advertisers. In this research, the selection of Academic Social networking sites (ASNSs) is considered as a Multi Attribute Decision Making (MADM) problem for advertising of E-learning website. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology for the selection of ASNSs has been adopted. Many forms of programmable matter have been proposed for various tasks. We use an abstract model of self-organizing particle systems for programmable matter which could be used for a variety of applications, including smart paint and coating materials for engineering or programmable cells for medical uses. Previous research using this model has focused on shape formation and other spatial configuration problems (e.g., coating and compression). In this work we study foundational computational tasks that exceed the capabilities of the individual constant size memory of a particle, such as implementing a counter and matrix-vector multiplication. these tasks represent new ways to use these self-organizing systems, which, in conjunction with previous shape and configuration work, make the systems useful for a wider variety of tasks. they can also leverage the distributed and dynamic nature of the self-organizing system to be more efficient and adaptable than on traditional linear computing hardware. Finally, we demonstrate applications of similar types of computations with self-organizing systems to image processing, with implementations of image color transformation and edge detection algorithms.

Hardware systems are complex and the complexity of such systems is increasing with the adoption of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and with the advent of cryptocurrency and Internet-of-things. the increase in complexity makes it harder to address failure, security compromises, and lack of performance in hardware systems. Further, such systems need to be customized and integrated by several parties and stakeholders in order to implement specific end-to-end applications. In this paper, we make two contributions towards managing this complexity: (1) we present a vision on how hardware system development and governance should be carried out, and (2) we advocate applying a fresh approach to the problem of hardware development and verification, going from a blackbox driven model to a white-box model in order to improve trust, reliability and efficiency in a dynamic, collaborative and accountable manner. We think that it is essential to employ automated validation of technical and business specification as well as to carry out analytics and machine learning on the internal states of hardware devices and systems in order to dynamically determine and/or predict faults, security issues, performance issues and address them in a collaborative manner. We lay out the desiderata, challenges and issues in accomplishing this. We also present a blockchain-based governance platform for hardware systems as part of our solution.

this paper presents the results of a preliminary study, in which grandchildren/children and grandparents/middle aged to older adults were observed while interacting with each other and with an App, on a tablet, to develop a proposed activity. Before and after these Joint Media Engagement (JME) sessions, participants were also interviewed, in order to collect data and to assess the perceived impact of the JME sessions in the quality of the intergenerational relationship, on the attitude towards each other and on children and older adults' digital literacy. the main goals of this preliminary study were to validate data collection instruments and techniques, namely the JME sessions activities, Apps and protocols and the pre- and post-JME session interviews' scripts. this preliminary study is part of a research that aims to understand the interactions and communication processes taking place during JME sessions involving grandparents/older adults (over 55 years old) and grandchildren/children (5 to 10 years old) in collaborative usage of tablets and tablets' Apps, in order to develop guidelines for designing mobile contents and Apps to support and promote intergenerational interactions.

this position paper deals with policy and resource orchestration in large-scale software-defined networks (SDNs) through network function virtualization (NFV). One of the key issues in a large-scale SDN is the automated policy orchestration and efficient resource sharing. the rich set of SDN policies that collectively drive the behavior of a single SDN often interacts in complex ways. With NFV, on the other hand, multiple workloads can co-locate and use a given infrastructure simultaneously. We examine challenges related to the automated orchestration and provisions of SDN-enabled policies and software middleboxes. We propose novel solutions - optimizations algorithms and reasoning procedures - that advance the state of art SDN orchestration service.

this paper investigates the use of Named Data Networks (NDNs) and Attribute-Based Encryption (ABE) to support federations of computing resources managed using the Virtual Organization (VO) concept. the NDN architecture focuses on fetching structurally named and secured pieces of application data, instead of pushing packets to host IP addresses. the VO concept allows management of federations across different administrative domains and enable secure collaborations. We show how hierarchicallly structured namespaces can be used to manage sets of named resources from different VO sites, and make them available to different VO members, based on their authorization attributes. For this initial investigation, we use a Two-Tier VO model and develop the associated VO data naming schema. We present an example, discuss outstanding issues, and identify future work.
