intelligent video surveillance (IVS) systems are based on the recent development of so called embedded smart cameras. Delivering a good service quality in IVS usually results in a higher level of computing activity and therefore in increased power consumption. this paper presents PoQoS, a novel approach that aims in maximizing the service quality (i.e., the number of IVS-services and their QoS) while minimizing the system's power consumption. PoQoS enables power-aware reconfiguration of services and hardware resources in distributed logical clusters of embedded smart cameras. In order to find optimal camera configurations during operation, PoQoS integrates PoSeGA, an online genetic multi-criterion optimization algorithm. A configuration manager properly selects among optimized camera configurations and consequently initializes intra-camera or intra-cluster power-aware reconfiguration with respect to application- and situation-specific context. the evaluation of PoQoS on the PoQoCam, a power-efficient embedded smart camera platform, shows the feasibility of the presented approach.

Withthe proliferation of portable computing platforms and small wireless devices, the classical dilemma of leader election in mobile ad hoc networks has received attention from the research community in recent years. the problem aims to elect a unique leader among mobile nodes regardless of their physical locations. But, existing distributed leader election algorithms do not cope with highly spontaneous nature of mobile ad hoc networks. this paper presents a consensus-based leader election algorithm that finds a local extrema among the nodes participating in leader election. the algorithm is highly adaptive with ad hoc networks in the sense that it can tolerate intermittent failures, such as link failures, sudden crash or recovery of mobile nodes, network partitions, and merging of connected network components associated with ad hoc networks. the paper also presents proofs of correctness to exhibit the fairness of this algorithm.

However, withthe popularity of distributed networks (e.g. Internet), web service providers tend to rely on external resources to complete certain tasks. this definitely increases the difficulty in locating appropriate service providers according to clients' requirements in the new scenario. To address this issue, we propose a reinforcement learning process based on the mobile agent model, which makes agents more efficient and intelligent in selecting web service providers. Finally, an implementation of our prototype is presented.

this paper presents a novel generalized par-ticle model (GPM) for autonomic computing and problem-solving in complex environment.1 the com-plex environment involves multi-type social coordi-nation, multi-degree autonomy, multi-objective opti-mization, and random behavior. this paper, at first, analyzes and formalizes some typical types of social coordination in multi-agent systems. then a general-ized particle model (GPM) is proposed, which trans-forms the autonomic computing and problem-solving process into the kinematics and dynamics of massive particles in a force-field. this paper discusses the con-struction, dynamics and properties of the GPA and corresponding algorithm. the GPA has many advan-tages in terms of the parallelism and the ability to deal with a variety of complex issues, such as the auton-omy, personality, congestion and failure of individual agents. the simulations have shown the effectiveness and suitability of the proposed approach for parallel distributed problem-solving in MAS in complex envi-ronment.
