Many-valued logic allows to reason with partial truth measured by degrees on a discrete scale, but it suffers from an ambiguous interpretation of the middle truth level, considered as intermediate truth or as ignorance, i.e. inability to assess truth. the L-M(e) extension introduces an additional value, outside the truth scale, to distinguish between these two notions. this paper studies L-M(e) from a logical perspective, examining how to reason in this framework: it discusses the definition of appropriate semantics for the logical connectives and it considers an inference task, proposing a Modus Ponens variant for L-M(e)

High frequency response is an important capability of infrared detectors in many applications. High-temperature long wavelength infrared HgCdTe heterostructure photodiodes exhibit sub-nanosecond time constants while operating under reverse bias. However, the noise, as well as the high current requirements are severe obstacles to their widespread applications. thus, the present efforts are focused on a zero-bias operation of infrared detectors. A numerical modelling was used for investigation of the device design on the response time and current responsivity of HgCdTe photodiodes operating at 200 K and zero-bias mode. the program based on the solution of the system of the carrier transport equations including the whole spectrum of various generation and recombination mechanisms. To determine the response time of devices, the Fourier expansion method was applied.

In this work it is showed that compressively strained Ge1-xSnx/Ge quantum wells (QWs) grown on a Ge virtual substrate are very promising TE mode gain medium. Moreover we show how emission wavelength and polarization can be controlled in Ge1-wSnw/SiyGe1-x-ySnx QWs. Demonstration of capabilities of presented QW systems bases on analysis of transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes of material gain, which is calculated by 8-band k.p electronic bandstructure.

FPGAs are being deployed in datacenters to enable improved energy efficiency and application acceleration. this paper explores whether FPGA designs can be improved to make them more effective in this new role. We explore the properties of applications after high-level synthesis has been applied and note that for irregular applications, a large fraction of FPGA resources may be consumed implementing finite state machines. For many applications the resulting state machines have states with a single successor and limited fan-out degree. We propose a mixed-grained logic block architecture exploiting these properties that can be integrated into current FPGA architectures, which reduces the area of the next state calculation in FSMs by more than 3x in average without impacting performance.

In watching baseball games, imagining the psychological warfare between batters and pitchers is one of the interesting thing. However, it is diffucult for the viewers to imagine the psychological warfare, if they don't have plenty of knowledge about baseball tactics. there is no support system presenting this psychological warfare in the now watching baseball game. In this paper, we introduce a system calculating and outputting the status of psychology of players by fuzzy logic. We call this system SBF(pSychological metrics for Baseball by Fuzzy). SBF expresses the expretise about baseball tactics by fuzzy sets. SBF reasons the psychological changes of players using these fuzzy sets. Psychological condition of batters and pitchers is coordinate point on the DCMR(Devided Circumplex Model of Russel). DCMR is builded based on Circumplex Model of Russel. SBF adds the vector of psychological changes to the coordinate point. SBF converts the coordinate point into two-dimensional character named Qdron. We did experiments examining whether viewers can symphathize with Qdron.

the Message Passing Interface (MPI) is the de facto communication standard for distributed-memory High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems. Ultra-low latency communication in HPC is difficult to achieve because of MPI processing requirements, in particular matching requests and messages done by traversing the corresponding queues. Many researchers have addressed this issue by redesigning queues or by offloading them to hardware accelerators. However, state-of-art software approaches cannot free CPUs “from the misery” and hardware approaches either lack scalability or still leave substantial room for further improvement. With the emergence of numerous tightly coupled CPU-FPGA computing architectures, offload of MPI functionality to user-controlled hardware is now becoming viable; we find it productive to revisit hardware approaches. To maintain the generality necessary to support MPI while preventing high resource utilization, we design our MPI queue processing offload based on a recent analysis of performance characteristics in HPC applications. We propose a novel, two-level message queue design: a content addressable memory (CAM) coupled with a resource-saving hardware linked-list. We also propose an optimization that maintains high speed in the cases when the queue is long. To test our design, we create an SOC-based testbed consisting of softcore processors and hardware implementations of the MPI communication stacks. Even while using only a small fraction of the Stratix-V logic, our design can be one to two orders of magnitude faster than two well-known hardware designs.

the quadratic assignment problem (QAP) is an NP-hard combinatorial optimization problem with various real-world applications. Breakout local search (BLS) is among the best performing heuristic algorithms to solve QAPs. BLS uses an adaptive perturbation mechanism to escape from local minima that complicates the control structure of BLS while BLS involves an abundance of data-level parallelism. In this paper, we propose a hardware solver for QAP on Xilinx Zynq-MPSoC. Zynq is a programmable SoC that consists of an ARM microprocessor and a programmable logic fabric that are tightly coupled on the same chip, and developed based on a software design by using High-level synthesis. Our proposed approach leverages inherent parallelism in BLS while maintaining the algorithmic behavior and control structure in the original software design, and outperforms software execution of BLS, parallel execution of BLS on a multicore CPU, and previous accelerators on GPU. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach

Recently, FPGA-based NCS applications have been widely used. Industrial environments have a lot of electromagnetic interference which may induce transient and permanent faults. As a result, Fault-Tolerant FPGA based NCS applications are required. In this paper, an NCS model composed of a combination of S2A architecture and In-Loop architecture connected to each other through Ethernet switch, is described. the S2A part of the model is an FPGA-based video sensor network which requires protection against transient faults. Several Fault-Tolerant techniques are mentioned in the literature for protection. Two Fault-Tolerant techniques are under study which are Hot Standby and Sift-Out. the fault model used is Single Event Upsets (SEUs). Dynamic Partial Recovery is used. Markov Models are used for reliability calculations. Results show that even though the Sift-Out technique is more reliable than Hot Standby, there may be situations where the difference in reliability cannot justify the extra cost. © 2017 IEEE.

Major field-programmable Gate Array (FPGA) vendors, such as Intel and Xilinx, provide toolchains for compiling Open Computing Language (OpenCL) to FPGAs. However, the separate host and device compilation approach advocated by OpenCL hides compiler optimization opportunities that can dramatically improve FPGA performance. this paper demonstrates the advantages of combined host and device compilation for OpenCL on FPGAs by presenting a series of transformations that require inter-compiler communication. Further, because of extremely long FPGA synthesis times, the overhead of recompiling the host code for each compilation of FPGA kernel code is relatively inexpensive. Our transformations are integrated with the Intel FPGA SDK for OpenCL and are evaluated on a subset of the Rodinia benchmark suite using an Altera Stratix V FPGA. © VDE VERLAG GMBH ∙ Berlin ∙ Offenbach

Image inpainting is a prolific line of research due to its applications in restoration of missing or damaged areas of the image. In this paper, a novel iterative algorithm for image inpainting based on aggregation functions and penalty-based functions is presented. the algorithm combines diffusion-based and patch-based techniques. In each iteration of the algorithm, the level of consensus among the known pixels in a neighbourhood of each pixel is computed. If a minimum value of consensus is reached, the pixel is recovered by means of an aggregation of the known pixels of the neighbourhood through aggregation functions and penalty-based functions. Otherwise, a non-local search of similar patches is performed and then a similar aggregation but now of the centre pixels of those patches more similar to the region we must recover is carried out. Experiments on synthetic and natural images show the potential of this algorithm both from the qualitative and the quantitative points of view in comparison to other classical inpainting algorithms.
