Technological evolutions in intelligent transportation have enabled smart and connected vehicles to support novel safety and infotainment services. the provision of such services is guaranteed with effective sharing and allocation of resources for task offloading and processing. the use of vehicular fogs also helps this process by lowering the latency in communications and the resource share among the fog members. However, allocation in Fogs introduces challenges related to the intermittency of Fog vehicle nodes, clustering, topology changes, and resource allocation problems. the use of metaheuristic algorithms has been explored in several works to solve these optimization problems, such as resource allocation, clustering, task allocation, and network communications, especially regarding efficiency. We thus propose a bat bio-inspired decision-making algorithm for task allocation in vehicular fogs called AEGIS. AEGIS uses the cluster members and task parameters to do the decision-making process in the task allocation process that helps to choose the best vehicle of the fog to allocate a determined task. the AEGIS was compared to a GWO approach (meta-heuristic), Greedy, and Random (traditional) approaches. We considered allocated, denied, and lost tasks for the simulation criteria. AEGIS lost fewer tasks than the other algorithms and allocated more tasks than the traditional algorithms.

As new variants of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) continuously evolve and mutate, it is vital to understand how novel and emerging variants affect public health outcomes. Our understanding of COVID-19 can have significant impacts on how we approach measures to mitigate the virus’s deleterious effects on the world. therefore, in this study, we aim to 1) quantify the relationships between county-characteristics, such as the proportion of residents vaccinated, and certain county-level health outcomes related to COVID-19 such as: case counts, death counts, positivity rates, infection rates, ICU occupancy levels, hospitalizations, and the proportion of ICU admissions due to COVID-19. We also aim to 2) compare these relationships across three different time periods - two periods where Delta was the dominant strain of the U.S. and one period where Omicron was the dominant strain of the U.S. In this study, we used multiple regression to measure the strength of relationships between healthcare outcomes and county characteristics from June 20, 2021 to March 19, 2022, which span across three time periods. the first two time periods, June 20, 2021 to September 18, 2021 and September 19, 2021 to December 18, 2021, are when Delta was dominant (> 50% of cases) in the U.S. and the third period, December 19, 2021 to March 19, 2022, is during Omicron’s dominance (up to March 19, 2022).

Concerns regarding Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) disparities among the vulnerable populations have been studied widely and extend to vaccine allocation. With the current status of the pandemic, emergence of new variants, and recommendations toward the administration of third and fourth booster shots, understanding the population-level vaccine coverage status is critical for achieving equity in public health outcomes. In a previous population-level study focused on California counties, using the data from U.S. Census Bureau, Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), California Health & Human Services Agency (CHHS), and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we investigated the scope of vaccine inequity. In this research, we modeled the trends of vaccination using the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and its four components, including "socioeconomic status," "household composition and disability," "minority status and language," and "housing type and transportation." Growth velocity and anticipated maximum proportion of the vaccinated population were modeled based on 9228 data points of daily vaccination numbers from December 15, 2020, to May 23, 2021, SVI, and its four themes. We reported that although vaccination coverage was significantly lower in high vulnerability counties, they are estimated to achieve a higher proportion of vaccinated individuals eventually, particularly based on SVI theme 3, while predicting that disparities in vaccination rates decrease over time.

In this work we present sub-space modeling of strong PUF as a cost efficient solution for PUF enrollment for the designers’ community. Our goal is to demonstrate a method which can reduce the overall cost in terms of number of CRPs required for training, training time and memory. Instead of modifying the estimated model structure, we propose to reduce the complexity of the modeling target. this means to provide secured access to the internal responses of strong PUF during the enrollment and capture internal CRPs to model each sub-component of the PUF independently. It also necessitates to permanently remove the internal access after the enrollment to prevent exposure of the internal responses. this means that the internal responses should not be directly accessible after enrollment. Our sub-space modeling method requires lesser number of CRPs compared to modeling the whole PUF. We experimentally prove that sub-space modeling can significantly reduce the cost of training compared to some of the latest works. For instance, we could model 128-stage 6-XOR Arbiter PUF with just above 90% prediction accuracy with 5000 CRPs. Here the response in the CRP is a vector including the responses of the sub-components. Our results show that sub-space modeling is potentially a cost-efficient solution to enroll strong PUF with high complexity.

With the advancement of modern robotics, autonomous agents are now capable of hosting sophisticated algorithms, which enables them to make intelligent decisions. But developing and testing such algorithms directly in real-world systems is tedious and may result in the wastage of valuable resources. Especially for heterogeneous multi-agent systems in battlefield environments where communication is critical in determining the system’s behavior and usability. Due to the necessity of simulators of separate paradigms (co-simulation) to simulate such scenarios before deploying, synchronization between those simulators is vital. Existing works aimed at resolving this issue fall short of addressing diversity among deployed agents. In this work, we propose SynchroSim, an integrated co-simulation middleware to simulate a heterogeneous multi-robot system. Here we propose a velocity difference-driven adjustable window size approach with a view to reducing packet loss probability. It takes into account the respective velocities of deployed agents to calculate a suitable window size before transmitting data between them. We consider our algorithm specific simulator agnostic but for the sake of implementation results, we have used Gazebo as a Physics simulator and NS-3 as a network simulator. Also, we design our algorithm considering the Perception-Action loop inside a closed communication channel, which is one of the essential factors in a contested scenario with the requirement of high fidelity in terms of data transmission. We validate our approach empirically at both the simulation and system level for both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) scenarios. Our approach achieves a noticeable improvement in terms of reducing packet loss probability (≈11%), and average packet delay (≈10%) compared to the fixed window size-based synchronization approach.

the growth in the number of traffic accidents has become a cause for concern in urban centers. As a result of the increase in population in large cities and the number of vehicles, the consequences of accidents and congestion can be even more significant, considering the impacts on the economy, environment and people's quality of life. therefore, aiming to minimize these impacts, we present ALIVE, a distributed and Vanet-based solution that reduces congestion caused by different sources and, especially, from accident sources, contributing to efficient urban mobility in smart cities. the solution performs the detection of accidents and the dissemination of warning messages in multiple hops. Besides, the system can share the road traffic information with the nearby streets to improve traffic efficiency. We evaluated the proposed solution with PANDORA and NRR Traffic Management solutions. Simulation results indicate that the proposed solution reduces the average travel time, time lost, and the number of transmitted messages.

Unlike previous generation cellular technologies, 5G networks support diverse radio bands from low-band, mid-band to (mmWave) high-band, and offer a wide variety of new and enhanced features. In particular, 3GPP 5G standards adopt a flow-based 5G Quality-of-Service (QoS) framework that allows more flexibility in mapping QoS "flows" to data radio bearers. Nonetheless, the 5G QoS classes are pre-defined and QoS treatment is limited to the "flow" level. As we will argue in an earlier paper, the 5G QoS framework cannot fully and intelligently utilize the diversity of 5G radio bands and other capabilities to cope with fast varying channel conditions, and is therefore inadequate in meeting the quality-of-experience (QoE) requirements of many emerging applications such as augmented/virtual realities (AR/VR) and connected and autonomous vehicles (CAV). this has led us to advance a novel software-defined, fine-grained QoS framework for 5G/NextG *** this "work in progress" paper, we share our initial experience in prototyping the proposed fine-grained QoS framework. Our framework extends both the 5G core network and 5G radio access network (RAN) functionality to enable intelligent control of radio resources in a fashion that exploits application semantics to improve user QoE. We discuss in detail about the changes in different systems and its individual components, share the current state of implementation progress (work completed and in-progress) and finally our evaluation plan to validate the framework when the implementation is complete.

In this paper, we consider the problem of designing a novel ATTack scheme under charger cApture attaCK(ATTACK) in wireless rechargeable sensor networks. that is, there are a number of wireless chargers with directional antenna and rechargeable directional devices deployed in the 2D plane. An intelligent adversary selects a limited number of chargers to be captured and adjust the compromised chargers' power factor such that the overall attacking utility of devices is maximized. To solve our ATTACK problem, we investigate an attacking algorithm with a constant approximation ratio with lightweight timing complexity. We conduct simulation experiments to verify the performance of our proposed attacking algorithm. the results shows that our proposed attacking algorithm can outperform the comparison algorithm by 69.95%.

the coverage problem of a three-dimensional (3D) space has similarity with the 3D tiling problem, which can be stated as follows: How can a 3D space be tiled by replicas of tiles? this is an instance of the second part of Hilbert's 18th problem [14]: "What convex polyhedra exist for which a complete filling of all space is possible by juxtaposition of congruent copies?" In this paper, we propose a polyhedral framework to investigate the connected coverage problem in 3D wireless sensor networks. First, we restrict the sensors' sensing sphere to a variety of convex polyhedral space-fillers. Our study aims to find the largest enclosed convex polyhedral space-filler in the sensors' sensing sphere, with a goal to maximize their utilized sensing volume. Second, based on this analysis, we select a minimum number of sensors to cover a 3D space for deterministic and random sensor deployment. third, we compute the ratio of the communication range to the sensing range of the sensors to ensure network connectivity. Fourth, we corroborate our analysis with various simulation results.
