Advanced flow control mechanisms employed by modern on-chip networks are the reasons of large energy footprint and long per-hop latency. On the other hand, dated and simpler flow controls such as circuit switching can draw far less power and offer an end-to-end latency analogous to wire delay. In this paper, we present a hybrid flow control mechanism, which mixes both virtual channels and circuit-switching, to provide a latency-competitive and energy-efficient on-chip network design. Contrary to existing hybrid switching designs, our proposal is based on local traffic so that circuits are formed without the knowledge of end-to-end traffic. When compared to on-chip networks with virtual channels, our proposal achieves a very competitive latency per flit, for up to 4% lower, while also dramatically suppressing the energy per flit by up to 18%.

the paper evolves an approach for proactive automatic cyber security incident response. the approach is based on usage of data from open sources, analytical modeling and a hierarchical integrated set of heterogeneous security metrics. the paper outlines the features of the analytical models that are crucial for countermeasure selection. It determines a set of security metrics for countermeasure selection. the algorithms that implement the suggested multi layer countermeasure selection technique are specified. Introduction of the layers allows getting the result at any time with the maximum accuracy depending on the available data. the experiments that demonstrate the efficiency of the suggested technique are outlined.

Present trend towards multiprocessor and multicore architectures as well as programmable NICs (network Interface Cards) provides new opportunities to exploit the available parallelism in the network interface design and implementation to cope with the high communication overhead required to take advantage of a multi-gigabit links. In this paper we have used dynamic web servers to evaluate several alternatives to distribute the network interface work among the different cores available in the node. these alternatives have been devised according to the affinity of the work to be done with the location (proximity to the memories where the different data structures are stored) and characteristics of the processing core. Improvements in the throughput (up to 110%), the response time (up to 500%) and the requests attended per second (up to 85%) have been observed in our experiments on dynamic web servers.

Since Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) Circuit Switching (CS) has the advantage of fixed low communication latency by transmitting data over pre-established connection, it has been a popular approach to provide guaranteed service. the challenge of the CS is the fast and dynamic connection allocation particularly for networks with high connection request rates. In this paper, a high performance connection allocator for TDM CS is presented, which enables parallel multiple path search in all directions. To enhance the path search speed, the Register-Exchange technique is adopted that saves the entire survivor path sequences during search. Hence, since the backtrack is omitted, the path search time is reduced by half compared to previous forward-backtrack approaches, which can also contribute to the success rate. Our approach is compared to the state of the art centralized and distributed approaches under uniform random traffic as well as real-application benchmarks. the experiment results showed our approach can provide up to 22% higher success rate and 2X greater allocation speed against centralized approaches, and up to 33% higher success rate and 18X higher allocation speed against distributed approach.

Interconnect network plays an important role in high performance computing systems. And its manageability directly affects the RAS (i.e., Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability) of the whole system. the Tianhe-2 system located in NSCC-gz (i.e., National Supercomputing Center of China in Guangzhou) uses proprietary interconnect network, which includes 5,856 high-radix network router chips (i.e., NRC) and 18,304 network interface chips (i.e., NIC). For such a very large-scale interconnect network, it is a great challenge to manage (such as configure, monitor, and debug) the numerous network chips and its network ports in an efficient way. By implementing the in-band management with very few hardware resources, the interconnect network in Tianhe-2 system achieves a highly efficient network management. In this paper, we introduce the design and implementation of the in band management for interconnect network in Tianhe-2 system, especially emphasizing on several key features, including the set of achieved management functionalities, the architecture of network management, the format of management packets, the data flow and processing of management packets, etc. In this paper, we also evaluate the performance of in-band management by mainly comparing with out-band management scheme. the preliminary results demonstrate the efficiency of the in-band management for interconnect network in Tianhe-2 system.

the paper considers the task of hot detection in social networks. Study is focused on the case when the account is closed by the privacy settings, and the but needs to he identified by the friend list. the paper proposes a solution that is based on machine learning and statistical methods. Social network Vkontakte is used as a data source. the paper provides the review of data, that one needs to get from the social network for hot detection in the case when the profile is closed by privacy settings. the paper includes a description of features extraction from Vkontakte social network and extracting complexity evaluation;description of features construction using statistics, Benford's law and Gini index. the paper describes the experiment. To collect data for training, we collect hots and real users datasets. To collect hots we made fake groups and bought bats of different quality for them from 3 different companies. We performed two series of experiments. In the first series, all the features were used to train and evaluate the classifiers. In the second series of experiments, the features were preliminary examined for the presence of strong correlation between them. the results demonstrated the feasibility of rather high-accuracy private account hot detection by means of unsophisticated off-the-shelf algorithms in combination with data scaling. the Random Forest Classifier yields the best results, with an ROC AUC more titan 0.9 and FPR less than 0.3. In paper we also discuss the limitations of the experimental part. and plans for future research.

this paper proposes a memory efficient failure detection and consensus algorithm, for fail-stop type process failures, based on epidemic protocols. It is suitable for extreme scale systems with reliable networks (no message loss) and high failure frequency. Communication time dominates the execution time at scale. the redundant failure detections and non-uniform information dissemination speed of epidemic algorithms make approximate epidemic-based consensus detection a useful way to trade communication overhead for accuracy. An approximate technique to the consensus detection is also proposed in this paper for faster consensus detection. Results show that the algorithm detects consensus correctly on failed processes with logarithmic scalability. the algorithm is tolerant to process failures both before and during the execution and the number of failures (occurring both before and during execution) have virtually no effect on the consensus detection time at scale. Comparison with similar deterministic consensus detection technique shows that the algorithm detects consensus at the same time with high probability. Further, benefits of the proposed approximate technique increase as system size increases. Compared to the non-approximate version, for a system size of 2(18) processes, the communication saved is 34% with accuracy loss of the order of 10(-4) in consensus detection.

the difficulty of multithreaded programming remains a major obstacle for programmers to fully exploit multicore chips. Transactional memory has been proposed as an abstraction capable of ameliorating the challenges of traditional lock-based parallel programming. Hardware transactional memory (HTM) systems implement the necessary mechanisms to provide transactional semantics efficiently. In order to keep hardware simple, current HTM designs apply fixed policies that aim at optimizing the most expected application behaviour and many of these proposals explicitly assume that commits will be clearly more frequent than aborts in future transactional workloads. this paper shows that some applications developed under the TM programming model are by nature prone to experience many conflicts. As a result, aborted transactions can get to be common and may seriously hurt performance. Our characterization, performed with truly transactional benchmarks on the LogTM system, shows that certain programs composed by large transactions suffer indeed very high abort rates. thus, if TM is to unburden developers from the programmability-performance trade-off, HTM systems must obtain good performance levels in the presence of frequent aborts, requiring more flexible policies of data versioning as well as more sophisticated recovery schemes.

A self adaptive communication protocol is proposed for peer to peer distributed computing. this protocol can configure itself automatically in function of application requirements and topology changes by choosing the most appropriate communication mode between peers. the protocol was designed in order to be used in conjunction with a decentralized environment for high performance distributed computing. A first set of computational experiments is also presented and analyzed for an optimization application, i.e. nonlinear network flow problems.

In this paper we present the implementation of a framework for accelerating training and classification of arbitrary Convolutional Neural networks (CNNs) on the GPU. CNNs are a derivative of standard Multilayer Perceptron (MLP) neural networks optimized for two-dimensional pattern recognition problems such as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) or face detection. We describe the basic parts of a CNN and demonstrate the performance and scalability improvement that can be achieved by shifting the computation-intensive tasks of a CNN to the GPU. Depending on the network topology training and classification on the GPU performs 2 to 24 times faster than on the CPU. Furthermore, the GPU version scales much better than the CPU implementation with respect to the network size.
