Lifecycle and effective dada management has become and still remains a difficult task in architecture, engineering, and construction domain. Recently, the emerging Building Information Modeling (BIM) gains more and more momentum in construction data presenting, processing, and sharing. With precise 3D digital geometry graphs, BIM has the potential to integrate diverse data from construction phases (design, construction, maintenance) and therefore becomes a promising collaboration platform for involved personnel. High efficiency BIM model processing is one of the critical issues for construction industry to truly embrace BIM technology. However, this topic has been rarely studied compared with other issues in BIM research. this paper presents an augmented version of MapReduce (MR), the popular distributedparallelcomputing model, to solve this problem. the main contribution lies in two points: 1) BIM models are extracted into uneven partitions according to construction domain features, followed by a specifically designed pre-process mechanism, which solves the unsuitability of classical MR's even blocking in construction domain and further greatly improves performance; 2) process and thread level parallelcomputing techniques are introduced into MR in single node to form a two-tier hybrid parallel architecture, which is more adaptive to BIM's massive graphical data processing. the proposed framework has been successfully used in real business applications of project quantity computation and BIM model collision detection. Experiment result from lab environment proves its efficiency and usability.

We propose a parallel Gauss-Seidel (GS) iterative algorithm for solving large systems of linear equations on a 2D torus network-con-chip (NoC) architecture. the proposed parallel algorithm is of O(Nn2/k2) time complexity for solving a system with matrix of order n on a k×k torus NoC architecture requiring N iterations assuming n and N are large compared to k (i.e. for large linear systemsthat require a large number of iterations). We show that under these conditions the proposed parallel GS algorithm has near optimal speedup and efficiency.

Enterprise service bus (ESB) is currently the most promising approach for business application integration in distributed and heterogeneous environments. Several commercial or open source ESB-based solutions have been proposed. To the best of our knowledge, none of these solutions has integrated the parallel processing by taking advantage of the multicore/multiprocessor technologies and thus improving greatly the ESB performance. In this paper, after describing the most important features of an enterprise service bus, we present a new massively parallel ESB (MPESB) architecture that meets this challenge.

Nondeterminism complicates the development and management of distributedsystems, and arises from two main sources: the local behavior of each individual node as well as the behavior of the network connecting them. Taming nondeterminism effectively requires dealing with both sources. this paper proposes DDOS, a system that leverages prior work on deterministic multithreading to offer: 1) space-efficient record/replay of distributedsystems;and 2) fully deterministic distributed behavior. Leveraging deterministic behavior at each node makes outgoing messages strictly a function of explicit inputs. this allows us to record the system by logging just message's arrival time, not the contents. Going further, we propose and implement an algorithm that makes all communication between nodes deterministic by scheduling communication onto a global logical timeline. We implement both algorithms in a system called DDOS and evaluate our system withparallel scientific applications, an HTTP/memcached system and a distributed microbenchmark with a high volume of peer-to-peer communication. Our results show up to two orders of magnitude reduction in log size of record/replay, and that distributedsystems can be made deterministic with an order of magnitude of overhead.

Clusters that combine heterogeneous compute device architectures, coupled with novel programming models, have created a true alternative to traditional (homogeneous) cluster computing, allowing to leverage the performance of parallel applications. In this paper we introduce clOpenCL, a platform that supports the simple deployment and efficient running of OpenCL-based parallel applications that may span several cluster nodes, expanding the original single-node OpenCL model. clOpenCL is deployed through user level services, thus allowing OpenCL applications from different users to share the same cluster nodes and their compute devices. Data exchanges between distributed clOpenCL components rely on Open-MX, a high-performance communication library. We also present extensive experimental data and key conditions that must be addressed when exploiting clOpenCL with real applications.
