this paper reports an industrial application of principle component analysis to process abnormality detection in a sugar mill. the process under investigation is a continuous pan which is one of the most crucial processes in sugar production. Two sets of experimental results are obtained in this work: one is related to an artificially induced fault by a stuck valve;the other captures a naturally occurred fault due to equipment failure. the principle component analysis algorithm successfully detects both faults. Only the latter case is reported in this paper.

this paper considers the problem of robust stabilization for stochastic time-delay systems with convex polytopic uncertainties. Sufficient conditions for the solvability of the problem are obtained by using parameter-independent and parameter-dependent Lyapunov functionals, respectively. It is shown that the result derived by a parameter-dependent Lyapunov functional is less conservative. A desired state feedback controller can be designed by solving a set of linear matrix inequalities.

Finish chinks are regarded as the most critical defects of recycled bottles adopted in beverage production. this paper presents a bottle finish inspection system utilizing state-of-art machine vision technologies to implement high-speed online inspection. the system architecture is illustrated in detail. An algorithm derived from Hough transform is applied for real-time determination of area of interest. As for detection, two artificial neural networks are used for low-level inspection and high-level judgment respectively. A prototype is developed and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the inspection system. the proposed algorithms are proved to be efficient in automatic finish inspection.

In this paper, robust adaptive control strategy is presented for a wheeled mobile robot in the presence of model perturbations that violates the nonholonomic assumption. the nonholonomic constraint of the vehicle is, assumed to be violated by an unknown slippage. Consequently, a perturbed kinematice model of the system is obtained. Using backstepping, the proposed controller is constructed at the dynamical level. the robust adaptive controller is to eliminate the needs for the LIP form of the system dynamics and the exact bounds of the system dynamics. All the system states are shown to be able to track the desired trajectory. the simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

Robot soccer requires vision to be fast, robust and accurate to capture environment situation. In this paper a new method to improve accuracy and stability of vision system in robot soccer is presented. the main topics are camera calibration and robot localization with colored patterns. the lens distortion is successfully compensated and image coordinates is correctly projected to real field, thus achieving a more accurate estimation of object detection. Stability of the position and orientation of a robot is significantly improved with well-chosen colored patterns. Both simulation and experiment results show that our method performs well to provide accurate and stable vision in robot soccer.

In this paper, we design a discrete-time sliding mode (DSM) nonlinear observer for a class of nonlinear uncertain systems. Taylor series expansion together with a nonlinear state transformation is used to discretize the system. A strategy to avoid switching across the sliding manifold is employed, and the sliding trajectory is confined to a boundary layer once it converges to the sliding manifold. A computational method of the formal linearization for time-variant nonlinear systems by using the cubic Hermite interpolation is proposed. We introduce a linearizing function that consists of the state variables, their squares, and the cubes. the nonlinear terms are approximated by the cubic Hermite interpolation and thus a formal linear time-variant system with respect to the linearizing function is acquired. the execution of this method is easily carried out by simple matrix multiplications. A nonlinear observer and a nonlinear filter are synthesized as applications of this method and are verified through numerical examples.

In this study the parameters identification problem of the fed-batch glycerol fermentation process is investigated based on an impulsive dynamical system. Considering the abrupt increase of the glycerol and alkali in fed-batch culture of glycerol bioconversion to 1,3-propanediol, this paper proposes a nonlinear impulsive system of fed-batch culture and its parameters identification problem. the existence and uniqueness of solution for the impulsive system and the continuous dependence of solution on the parameters are proved. Based on the compactness of the solution set of the system, identifiability of the system and the necessary condition of optimality for the system are obtained.

Previous temperature's detection is based on the flame image process that is easy to be disturbed by dust and smog in the sintering strand. the algorithm proposed in this paper can overcome this disadvantage effectively.
