the regional, stability for large-scale interconnected linear system with delays is studied in this paper by analyzing the distribution of the roots of their transcendental characteristic equations and using LMT technology, and the corresponding stability criterion is obtained. Being different from common results, the stability condition not only ensures the system stable, but also gives a certain symmetric region in the lefthand side of the complex plane in which system's all characteristic roots lie. the result is presented in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) problem so that it is easy to be calculated. A computation example is given to illustrate the proposed method.

Video encryption is a suitable method to protect video data. there are some disadvantages in the algorithms proposed before. In this paper, we propose a novel fast MPEG video encryption algorithm, which encrypts run length codes with chaotic run-length encryption algorithm (CREA), encrypts the signs of motion vectors with security-enhanced chaotic stream cipher (SECSC) and distributes keys with chaotic key distributor (CKD) at the same time. Its security, compression ratio and computational complexity are analyzed in details. Experimental results show that, the algorithm has less effect on compression ratio than the algorithms confusing DCT coefficients do, does not change file format, and is of low cost. thus, it is suitable for secure video encoding with real-time requirement.

A new method of forecast cross-coupling controller for multi-axis system is proposed in this paper. When compared with the conventional cross-coupling system, this new method has the advantages that the compensators in CCC have a simpler design process over the conventional ones and its real-time system parametric identification can improve the accuracy of the model more effectively. the proposed compensator is evaluated and compared experimentally with a traditional uncoupled controller on a dual-axis motion system. the experiment results show that the new method remarkably reduces the contour error.

Power DC/DC converters are switching circuits controlled by specific PWM regulation. Although they are usually designed for stable operation, many unstable states due to complicate bifurcation phenomena have been observed in these decades. To avoid those undesirable operations, a designer must know when and how stability is lost. thus in this paper, we propose a method to analyze the bifurcation of switching control converters. Many bifurcation curves can be constructed to provide useful information for circuit design and control. Some practical circuits, such as voltage-mode buck converter and current-mode boost converter are considered.

this paper largely presents a deadlock prevention policy for automated flexible manufacturing systems. Based on Petri nets and some investigations on siphons, this policy is targeted at one modeled manufacturing system extended from system of simple sequential process. Given a net, elementary and dependent siphons can be obtained from the strict minimal siphons. Our deadlock control method is an iterative one by adding two kinds of control places called ordinary control place and weighted control place to the original net to prevent elementary siphons from being unmarked, under some conditions the dependent siphons can be prevented from being emptied as well. Finally, a flexible manufacturing example is presented to illustrate our deadlock prevention policy.

A method of image process and features extraction for structured light image of welding seam with arc and splash disturbance is proposed. the seam area is detected by search with large step. the adaptive thresholds of image enhancement are determined in the frequency domain of the gray image. then, the target image is pre-processed using image enhancement and binarization. After thinning the seam with its both edges, main characteristic line is obtained using Hotelling transform and Hough transform. Finally, the feature points in the seam are found according to its second derivative. Experimental results show its effectiveness, good performance in real time and adaptability to different seams.

In the past decade computational biology has come to the forefront of the public's perception with advancements in domain knowledge and a variety of analysis techniques. With the recent completion of projects like the human genome sequence, and the development of microarray chips it has become possible to simultaneously analyse expression levels for thousands of genes. Typically, a slide surface of less than 24 cm/sup 2/, receptors for 30,000 genes can be printed, but currently the analysis process is a time consuming semi-autonomous step requiring human guidance. the paper proposes a framework, which facilitates automated processing of these images. this is supported by real world examples, which demonstrate the technique's capabilities along with results, which show a marked improvement over existing implementations.

this paper reports an industrial application of principle component analysis to process abnormality detection in a sugar mill. the process under investigation is a continuous pan which is one of the most crucial processes in sugar production. Two sets of experimental results are obtained in this work: one is related to an artificially induced fault by a stuck valve; the other captures a naturally occurred fault due to equipment failure. the principle component analysis algorithm successfully detects both faults. Only the latter case is reported in this paper.

In this paper a feature detection algorithm based on a new curve gradient model is proposed for simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) for complex outdoor environments. the curve gradient model is derived for data segmentation and has the advantage of being suitable for segmentation of data from various types of feature such as point feature and circular feature. the real time implementation of SLAM together with this feature extraction algorithm is realized by using a combination of odometry and laser scanner data. the system was tested on a long walk way at Nanyang Technological University. the experimental results show that the feature detection algorithm performs well during SLAM.

From the control theory point of view, it is reasonable to regard the TCP congestion control mechanism as a feedback control system. the TCP congestion control is complemented by the active queue management (AQM) scheme implemented in the routers, which could improve the effectiveness. Recently, an effective proportional-differential (PD) control algorithm has been proposed as a new AQM scheme for TCP congestion control. But it is still difficult to assign the parameter values of the PD-controller. this paper proposes a method for the design of an effective and stable PD-control AQM for routers in the Internet. For this purpose, a first-order plus time-delay TCP model is constructed, and a relay feedback method is employed to determine a set of stable parameter values of the model. From this set of values, and the requirements of the gain and phase margin, the specified parameter values of the PD-controller can be easily obtained by scanning the stable parameter set.
