Election officials can use the Universal Verifiability verification model to compare the election results with the actual ballots that were used. Univer Metrics have been developed in this study to gauge the e-voting system's level of Universal Verifiability. the degree of Universal Verifiability in three voting protocols - Cortier, the Modified threballot, and the Traditional Voting Protocol in Indonesia - is measured by the e-voting protocol that includes Universal verification. For the Modified threballot Protocol, this implementation yields the highest Universal verifiability score of 1, meaning that the intended level of universal verifiability has been attained. © 2024 IEEE.

the publication of scientific results together with the underlying experiments is an important source of further research. In 2016, the "FAIR Guiding Principles for scientific data management and stewardship" were published, in which the authors postulate a series of guidelines for improving the (F)indability, (A)ccessibility, (I)nteroperability and (R)eusability of digital information (FAIR). the point (I)nteroperability deals with the prerequisites for the reusability of digital objects. the central point here is the need to have a common understanding of the meaning of digital objects. this understanding is provided by formal languages of knowledge representation (ontologies), which describe the actual data. these descriptions of data are also known as metadata. As part of our current work at the Institute for Automation and Applied Computer Science (IAI) at KIT, we are implementing novel concepts and technologies for the sustainable handling of research data using high-quality metadata. As part of this work, we plan to develop a software tool that can be used to enrich data with suitable metadata and thus automate the process of making research results available. A key requirement is that the tool must be independent of the underlying domain. In order to be able to deal with data from any domain, we have opted for a model-driven approach in which an ontology, and possibly other platform-specific information, are input for a software generator, which then generates an (interactive) tool for specifying the metadata and linking it to the data itself. the generated tool includes the complete software stack, starting with a user interface, programmatic APIs for connecting additional application logic, and a persistence component. How these individual layers are realized is not specified, but defined by the mapping rules of the software generator, which also opens up the possibility of generating and evaluating different variants of the software. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS

Security patches are essential for enhancing the stability and robustness of projects in the open-source software community. While vulnerabilities are officially expected to be patched before being disclosed, patching vulnerabilities is complicated and remains a struggle for many organizations. To patch vulnerabilities, security practitioners typically track vulnerable issue reports (IRs), and analyze their relevant insecure code to generate potential patches. However, the relevant insecure code may not be explicitly specified and practitioners cannot track the insecure code in the repositories, thus limiting their ability to generate patches. In such cases, providing examples of insecure code and the corresponding patches would benefit the security developers to better locate and resolve the actual insecure code. In this paper, we propose PATUNTRACK, an automated approach to generating patch examples from IRs without tracked insecure code. PATUNTRACK utilizes auto-prompting to optimize the Large Language Model (LLM) to make it applicable for analyzing the vulnerabilities described in IRs and generating appropriate patch examples. Specifically, it first generates the completed description of the Vulnerability-Triggering Path (VTP) from vulnerable IRs. then, it corrects potential hallucinations in the VTP description with external golden knowledge. Finally, it generates Top-K pairs of Insecure Code and Patch Example based on the corrected VTP description. To evaluate the performance of PATUNTRACK, we conducted experiments on 5,465 vulnerable IRs. the experimental results show that PATUNTRACK can obtain the highest performance and improve the traditional LLM baselines by +17.7% (MatchFix) and +14.6% (Fix@10) on average in patch example generation. Furthermore, PATUNTRACK was applied to generate patch examples for 76 newly disclosed vulnerable IRs. 27 out of 37 replies from the authors of these IRs confirmed the usefulness of the patch examples generated by PATUNTRACK,

Evaporative "swamp" coolers (EC) used in dry climates may increase infiltration of ambient air pollution into homes;however, prior studies are limited by small sample sizes and lack of comparison homes using vapor compression air conditioning (AC). We used aerosol photometers and integrated sampling with nitrite-impregnated glass fiber filters to compare 24-hr indoor/outdoor PM2.5 and ozone levels, respectively, in EC (n = 14) and AC (n = 16) homes in Utah (USA). We observed a significantly larger infiltration factor (Fin) of outdoor PM2.5 in EC vs. AC homes (0.39 vs. 0.12, p = 0.026) during summer. Ozone findings likewise suggest ECs contribute to infiltration of gas-phase pollutants. the indoor/outdoor ratio for ozone in EC homes was 0.59 (95% CI 0.48, 0.70), at least 3.9 times greater than for AC homes. Our findings suggest individuals living in EC homes have greater potential for exposure to outdoor pollution while indoors during summer months. © 2024 18th conference of the international Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2024 - conference Program and Proceedings. Capstone courses in undergraduate software engineering are a critical final milestone for students. these courses allow students to create a software solution and demonstrate the knowledge they accumulated in their degrees. However, a typical capstone project team is small containing no more than 5 students and function independently from other teams. To better reflect real-world software development and meet industry demands, we introduce in this paper our novel capstone course. Each student was assigned to a large-scale, multi-team (i.e., company) of up to 20 students to collaboratively build software. Students placed in a company gained first-hand experiences with respect to multi-team coordination, integration, communication, agile, and teamwork to build a microservices based project. Furthermore, each company was required to implement plug-and-play so that their services would be compatible with another company, thereby sharing common APIs. through developing the product in autonomous sub-teams, the students enhanced not only their technical abilities but also their soft skills such as communication and coordination. More importantly, experiencing the challenges that arose from the multi-team project trained students to realize the pitfalls and advantages of organizational culture. Among many lessons learned from this course experience, students learned the critical importance of building team trust. We provide detailed information about our course structure, lessons learned, and propose recommendations for other universities and programs. Our work concerns educators interested in launching similar capstone projects so that students in other institutions can reap the benefits of large-scale, multi-team development.

the exponential growth of open-source package ecosystems, particularly NPM and PyPI, has led to an alarming increase in software supply chain poisoning attacks. Existing static analysis methods struggle with high false positive rates and are easily thwarted by obfuscation and dynamic code execution techniques. While dynamic analysis approaches offer improvements, they often suffer from capturing non-package behaviors and employing simplistic testing strategies that fail to trigger sophisticated malicious behaviors. To address these challenges, we present OSCAR, a robust dynamic code poisoning detection pipeline for NPM and PyPI ecosystems. OSCAR fully executes packages in a sandbox environment, employs fuzz testing on exported functions and classes, and implements aspect-based behavior monitoring with tailored API hook points. We evaluate OSCAR against six existing tools using a comprehensive benchmark dataset of real-world malicious and benign packages. OSCAR achieves an F1 score of 0.95 in NPM and 0.91 in PyPI, confirming that OSCAR is as effective as the current state-of-the-art technologies. Furthermore, for benign packages exhibiting characteristics typical of malicious packages, OSCAR reduces the false positive rate by an average of 32.06% in NPM (from 34.63% to 2.57%) and 39.87% in PyPI (from 41.10% to 1.23%), compared to other tools, significantly reducing the workload of manual reviews in real-world deployments. In cooperation with Ant Group, a leading financial technology company, we have deployed OSCAR on its NPM and PyPI mirrors since January 2023, identifying 10,404 malicious NPM packages and 1,235 malicious PyPI packages over 18 months. this work not only bridges the gap between academic research and industrial application in code poisoning detection but also provides a robust and practical solution that has been thoroughly tested in a real-world industrial setting.

this ICSE 2023 technical briefing is on state-ofthe-art techniques to conduct eye tracking studies in software engineering. It is organized as a hands-on 180-minute briefing broken up into two 85-minute modules with a short break in between. the first module will teach participants the terminology and theories needed to understand eye tracking. the second will engage participants in hands-on groupwork to collect and analyze eye tracking data through a software pipeline. Our goal is to help participants one-on-one learn how to get starting using eye tracking to support their own research goals. Our team has been working with eye tracking for over 15 years. the briefing will be targeted towards researchers, practitioners, and educators. Our eye tracking software infrastructure, iTrace, will be demonstrated in person with several state-of-the-art eye trackers. Eye tracking is gaining a lot of traction in the community. We want to use the ICSE platform to communicate the current state-of-the-art (including limitations and workarounds) in a highly interactive setting starting from the theory, data collection, and processing pipeline. Sample data and scripts will be made available.

the manufacturing industry consumes a large quantity of energy for ventilation systems to remove pollutants and heat generated during production processes. Compared to general ventilation, local ventilation systems with higher pollutant removal efficiency are employed in most industrial buildings. Accurately predicting the capture efficiency of local ventilation under different flow rates is important for designing ventilation systems. this investigation validated a CFD model that can simulate and determine the capture efficiency by using measured data of temperature and pollutant concentration during the removal process. Meanwhile, based on the theory of plume and buoyancy-driven natural ventilation, an empirical formula was put forward to predict the capture efficiency of local ventilation. the validated CFD model were used to test the empirical formula. the prediction errors of the empirical formula were below 20% as compared to CFD results, and the proposed formula can be used to design local ventilation with exhaust hood. © 2024 18th conference of the international Society of Indoor Air Quality and Climate, INDOOR AIR 2024 - conference Program and Proceedings. ECE (Early Childhood Education) is important for children learning since it sets a benchmark of learning for children when they begin schooling. However, identification of child development in the context of ECE has been found to be a huge challenge. the objective of this study is to design a highly effective monitoring system based on deep learning, object detection, and YOLO to improve the correctness and speed of monitoring ECE learning progress. through the use of this technology, the system is designed to be able to analyses and categorise different activities of children in realtime with the feedback to the teachers and parents being immediate. It makes the process of monitoring much easier apart from enhancing communication between the teachers and the parents, not forgetting the progressive growth of the children. this capability was tested based on data captured by cameras placed in the classrooms then passed through yav8 to improve its accuracy as well as real-time monitoring abilities. the study shows how technology application in monitoring ECE improves the system's ability to meet the need of the children. © 2024 IEEE.
