distributed ac power systems using inverters connected in parallel are becoming increasingly widespread with the development of autonomous microgrids. Inverters can be controlled to emulate the dynamics of nonlinear oscillators, such that multiple inverters coupled through an electrical network will synchronize and share load in proportion to their ratings. In this paper, a communication-less control method is developed for islanded parallel inverters based on the Van der Pol oscillator and a virtual impedance technique. the controller can be tuned to guarantee fast synchronization of inverters, as well as optimal load power sharing, regardless of differences in the physical parameters of the inverters and their respective filters. A methodology for parameter selection is presented to tune the controller so that the system voltage amplitude remains within prescribed bounds whilst ensuring optimal load sharing and minimizing synchronization time. simulation results demonstrate the performances which can be obtained with several parallel-connected inverters using this control method with correctly tuned parameters.

Many rooms are equipped with conferencing systems with a large number of microphones. However, these systems are often limited to a fixed number of delay-and-sum beamformers and typical automix software will pick the beamformer output with the most energy. A more constructive combination is possible if we have access to the output of multiple beams constructed by such commercial systems. this article proposes a beamspace projection that may effectively view such a commercial conferencing system as a low-latency dimensionality reduction operation. Such a projection can be formulated as a plane wave decomposition of the received signals. Experiments conducted in simulation show that beamspace projection can rapidly approach the SINR gain achievable with access to all the microphones with lower computational complexity. Finally, we use commercial hardware and its beamformer outputs to separate numerous talkers in a real world environment.

In this paper, we propose a message passing-based algorithm to reconstruct a discrete-valued vector whose elements have a symmetric probability distribution. the proposed algorithm, referred to as discreteness-aware approximate message passing (DAMP), borrows the idea of the approximate message passing (AMP) algorithm for compressed sensing. We analytically evaluate the performance of DAMP via state evolution framework to derive a required number of linear measurements for the exact reconstruction with DAMP. the analysis also provides the optimal parameter minimizing the required number of measurements. simulation results show that DAMP can reconstruct the discrete-valued vector and its performance agrees well with our theoretical results via the state evolution.

In this paper, we propose an approach for the real-time performance analysis of distributed software with reliability constraints, called Athena. the approach is based on the real-time and reliability performance analysis of distributed program. In Athena, two important factors, imperfect nodes and the links reliability, are introduced. the algorithms proposed in Athena generates sub-graphs, counts the reliability of each sub-graph, calculates the transmission time for all the transmission paths of each data file, and computes response time of each data file with reliability constraint. In this way, the real-time performance of distributed software with reliability constrains can be evaluated.

this paper presents experimental work undertaken towards the development of a realistic performance model for non-dedicated networks of heterogeneous computers. Unlike traditional models, it is aimed at parallel computing on common networks of computers and distributed computing on global networks. It takes into account the effect of paging and differences in the level of integration into the network of computers, with the inevitable fluctuation in the workloads of computers in such networks. Some preliminary experimental work undertaken in support of the development of the model is briefly discussed. Based on the results of these experiments some key parameters of such a model are proposed.

After performing one-dimensional simulation of electron transport in narrow quantum wires without gate control in Ref [1], [2] using the open boundary-conditions full-band plane-wave transport formalism derived in Ref [3], we now extend the work to simulate three-dimensionally field-effect transistors (FETs) with a gate bias applied and obtain their transport characteristics. We optimize multiple procedures for solving the quantum transport equation (QTE), such as using a selected eigenvalue solver, the fast Fourier transform (FFT), block assignment of matrices, a sparse matrix solver, and parallel computing techniques. With an expanded computing capability, we are able to simulate the transistors in the sub- 1 nm technology node as suggested by the ITRS [4], which features ?5 nm physical gate length, ?2 nm body thick6ness, ?0.4 nm effective oxide thickness (EOT), ?0.6 V power supply voltage, and a multi-gate structure. Here we simulate an armchair graphene nanoribbon (aGNR) FET using a gateall- around architecture and obtain its transport properties. We will discuss the numerics concerning the matrix size of the transport equation, memory consumption, and simulation time.

Existing routing protocols for Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) are generally optimized with statistical link measures, while not addressing on the intrinsic uncertainty of wireless links. We show evidence that, with the transient link uncertainties at PHY and MAC layers, a pseudo-deterministic routing protocol that relies on average or historic statistics can hardly explore the full potentials of a multi-hop wireless mesh. We study optimal WMN routing using probing-based online anypath forwarding, with explicit consideration of transient link uncertainties. We show the underlying connection between WMN routing and the classic Canadian Traveller Problem (CTP) [1]. Inspired by a stochastic recoverable version of CTP (SRCTP), we develop a practical SRCTP-based online routing algorithm under link uncertainties. We study how dynamic next hop selection can be done with low cost, and derive a systematic selection order for minimizing transmission delay. We conduct simulation studies to verify the effectiveness of the SRCTP algorithms under diverse network configurations. In particular, compared to deterministic routing, reduction of end-to-end delay (51:15∼73:02%) and improvement on packet delivery ratio (99:76%) are observed.

In this paper, we present a bandwidth-centric job communication model that captures the interaction and impact of simultaneously co-allocating jobs across multiple clusters. We compare our dynamic model with previous research that utilizes a fixed execution time penalty for co-allocated jobs. We explore the interaction of simultaneously co-allocated jobs and the contention they often create in the network infrastructure of a dedicated computational multi-cluster. We also present several bandwidth-aware co-allocating meta-schedulers. these schedulers take inter-cluster network utilization into account as a means by which to mitigate degraded job run-time performance. We make use of a bandwidth-centric parallel job communication model that captures the time-varying utilization of shared inter-cluster network resources. By doing so, we are able to evaluate the performance of multi-cluster scheduling algorithms that focus not only on node resource allocation, but also on shared inter-cluster network bandwidth.

the majority of battery operated computing devices have the capability to employ Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) as an effective method to minimize the power used by their processors. Algorithms employing DVS in real-time systems must guarantee the satisfaction of all tasks' timing constraints while minimizing power consumption. In this paper, we present a framework for scheduling and dispatching a distributed set of hard real-time tasks with relative timing constraints. In our approach, the scheduler employs the parametric real-time scheduling methodology to provide on-time completion guarantees for periodic hard real-time tasks. Moreover, the scheduler associates with each hard real-time task a feasibility range parameterized by timing parameters generated at run-time. the run-time dispatcher uses this information to calculate the system's dynamic slack time. It uses the slack time to set the CPU speed using DVS in the time interval till the next scheduling point. the dispatcher reclaims the additional slack generated when a job uses fewer execution cycles than its worst-case estimate to further reduce power consumption. the proposed power-aware dispatching method has running-time of O(1) with no need for off-line computations. Our simulation results show significant improvement in power savings over previously presented DVS-based scheduling methods.
