To design bodily data representations, it is helpful to understand how people move. Bertin codified graphic design principles for data visualization and Hornecker et al. describe a design vocabulary for data physicalization. Yet, few frameworks guide the creation of data representations that use people's bodies as the material for design, or data representations that create a felt experience of datathrough movement. In this pictorial, we propose a set of movement parameters to serve as building blocks for body-based data representations. Our framework, consisting of six movement parameters each with up to seven sub-parameters, synthesizes the theoretical work of movement experts in Western traditions and contextualizes it in data representation based on a 10-session workshop series with dancers. Two case studies demonstrate how the movement parameters were applied to create bodily data representations intended to be viewed by an audience and bodily data representations intended to be somatically experienced.

Craft has a long history of being an embodied and tangible way to explore various forms of data in HCI and design. In this art project, will showcase seven hand embroidered, GIS- and GPS-generated maps which I made over the course of 18 months. these maps are supplemented with a zine-like CD where soundscapes correspond to each map. the maps represent the paths I took over seven days of an autoethnographic bike tour down the Mississippi River. the trip was designed to offer an embodied way to meet withthe Mississippi River's posthuman character and explore how the history of floods and land use shape futures with climate change. Translating this experience into embroidered maps led to embodied and closeup views of GIS map layers and lived experience of GPS data via textile and soundscape.

the invisibility of radiation makes it incredibly difficult to perceive, however, it has a devastating impact on humans and our environment. Drawing on the historical significance of Los Alamos National Laboratory in developing the world's first atomic weapons, this work brings physical form to 30 years of radiation emission data. the data consists of airborne release estimates of plutonium-239/240 isotopes in millicuries from Los Alamos National Laboratory from 1945 to 1975. this work physicalizes the collected data by translating it into three, printed porcelain vessels that each represent 10 years of data. the vessels are further situated with photographs of Los Alamos and related sites in New Mexico. By contextualizing historical datathrough the vessels and photographs, this work encourages people to critically engage with and gain a more embodied understanding of radiation and how it has historically impacted the environment.
