Integration of SCADA Services and Power-Hardware-in-the-Loop Technique in Cross-Infrastructure Holistic Tests of Cyber-Physical Energy Systems

Cyber-physical energy system (CPES)-complex juxtaposition of multiple energy domains and communication and automation technologies-requires a sophisticated testing framework to achieve holistic assessment and validation, especially at large scale. In this article, the real supervision, control, and data acquisition (SCADA) system of CPES is integrated with the advanced techniques-real-time simulation (RTS) and power-hardware-inthe-loop (PHIL), in a cross-infrastructure manner to create a realistic validation environment for CPES. On the one hand, the method can be applied to extend the capacity of the infrastructures as well as creating a common resource and expertise pool. On the other hand, this approach combines the realistic data and advanced SCADA services with the flexibility of the RTS platform, which provides the possibility to emulate extreme and faulty scenarios with virtual equipment and topology. the proposed approach is demonstrated via a case study of analyzing the impact of communication on advanced voltage and frequency restoration in an isolated microgrid. the case study is implemented on two remote platforms PREDISPRISMES (70 km apart). the validation framework comprises the RTS and PHIL platform coupled with the OPC UA SCADA system in PRISMES, the control algorithm and the communication network simulator located in PREDIS platform.

Design smells are software structures that may indicate a code or design problem that makes software difficult to evolve and maintain [3]. Know those errors is the first step to improve some development skills, such as refactoring. Current tools that detect software problems does not aim to help students to learn with their own errors neither help teachers to use it to improve the way they teach object oriented programming (OOP) and software engineering disciplines. this work aims to develop an expert system module to improve the existent tools and help students and teachers in their tasks.

C2Eiffel is a fully automatic source-to-source translator of C applications into the Eiffel object-oriented programming language. C2Eiffel supports the complete C language, including function pointers, unrestricted pointer arithmetic and jumps, arbitrary native libraries, and inlined assembly code. It produces readable Eiffel code that behaves as the source C application, it takes advantage of some of Eiffel's object-oriented features to produce translations that are easy to maintain and debug, and often even safer than their sources thanks to stricter correctness checks introduced automatically. Experiments show that C2Eiffel handles C applications of significant size (such as vim and libgsl), it is a fully automatic tool suitable to reuse C code within a high-level object-oriented programming language.

In Java 2 and Microsoft .NET Common Language Runtime (CLR), trusted code has often been programmed to perform access-restricted operations not explicitly requested by its untrusted clients. Since an untrusted client will be on the call stack when access control is enforced, an access-restricted operation will not succeed unless the client is authorized. To avoid this, a portion of the trusted code can be made "privileged." When access control is enforced, privileged code causes the stack traversal to stop at the trusted code frame, and the untrusted code stack frames will not be checked for authorization. For large programs, manually understanding which portions of code should be made privileged is a difficult task. Developers must understand which authorizations will implicitly be extended to client code and make sure that the values of the variables used by the privileged code are not "tainted" by client code. this paper presents an interprocedural analysis for Java bytecode to automatically identify which portions of trusted code should be made privileged, ensure that there are no tainted variables in privileged code, and detect "unnecessary" and "redundant" privileged code. We implemented the algorithm and present the results of our analyses on a set of large programs. While the analysis techniques are in the context of Java code, the basic concepts are also applicable to non-Java systems with a similar authorization model. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.

this work investigates the composition of interdependent software components on a shared platform from a timing perspective. Because we consider software components for vehicular systems, which are often sensitive to timing, the individual components and the composed system require timing analysis. In order to support independent development of components, the real-time systems community proposed hierarchical scheduling frameworks (HSFs). HSFs in essence provide a virtual platform to individual components, including well-defined protocols for their synchronization. In this paper, we give an overview of recent research for applying HSFs into in-vehicle technology standards and we look ahead to some future challenges regarding the safety certification of such systems.

As object-oriented technologies move from the laboratory to the mainstream, companies are beginning to realize cost benefits in terms of software reuse and reduced development time. these benefits have been elusive to developers of real-time flight software. Issues such as processing latencies, validated performance of mission critical functions, and integration of legacy code have inhibited the effective use of object-oriented technologies in this domain. Emerging design languages, development tools, and processes offer the potential to address the application of object technologies to real-time operational flight software development. this paper examines emerging object-based technologies and assess their applicability to operational flight software. It includes an analysis that compares and contrasts the current Comanche software development process with one based on object-oriented concepts.

In component-based and model-driven development it is common to model embedded applications in a platform-independent manner. As an example, some approaches allow development of distributed applications while abstracting away from details of communication between platform nodes. Using such an approach requires to implement this communication before an executable system is deployed. Currently it is common to automatically implement this communication on the level of code, while providing it on the model level is mostly a task that needs to be done manually. In this paper we present a framework for automatic generation of inter-node communication by adding communication components to software models. the framework provides flexibility in the level of automation of generation decisions, and is defined in a way which allows adding support for new communication media or protocols. We have implemented the generation framework for the IEC 61499 standard and provide a prototype generation tool, which we use for examining the applicability of the approach.
