In this paper,we are presenting QR factorization algorithms that can tolerate process crashes and soft errors(bit flips).Our algorithms take advantage of structural properties of a QR factorization algorithm referred to as "communication-avoiding".We show that,exploiting these properties,our resilient,robust algorithms modify the communication pattern of the computation but do not add any significant computation in the critical path.

Hyperspectral images are data cubes that offer very rich spectral and spatial resolutions. these images are so highly dimensioned that we generally reduce them in a pre-processing step in order to process them efficiently. In this context, Local Fisher Discriminant Analysis (LFDA) is a feature extraction technique that proved better than several commonly used dimensionality reduction techniques. However, this method suffers from memory problems and long execution times on commodity hardware. In this paper, to solve these problems, we first added an optimization step to LFDA to make it executable on commodity hardware and to make it suitable for parallel and distributed computing, then, we implemented it in a parallel and distributed way using Apache Spark. We tested our implementation on Amazon Web Services (AWS)'s Elastic MapReduce (EMR) clusters, using different hyperspectral images with different sizes. this proved higher performances with a speedup of up to 70x.

this paper presents a new efficient data-exchange process in parallel sorting, which improves both communication time and memory space. In this communication-space efficient strategy, we proposed two new parallel sorting algorithms: 1) CSEBS (Communication-Space Efficient Bitonic Sort) algorithm and 2) CSEOE (Communication-Space Efficient Odd-Even MergeSort) algorithm. In addition, to evaluate the performance, we have implemented the CSEBS and the CSEOE algorithms on the SGI Origin2000. Investigated experimental results have been compared to those of the best of existing algorithm (CEBS: Communication Efficient Bitonic Sort). In the experiments, the proposed CSEBS algorithm yielded the improved results over those of the best of existing algorithm (CEBS) at least 11% on the system of size P = 4 and at least 31% on the system of size P = 8. Moreover our approach can save memory space up to 50%.

Message passing based parallel programming paradigm and associated libraries such as MPI and PVM have proven its novelty and efficiency by successful applications in many diverse areas ranging from scientific computation, simulation, graphics, machine learning, to data mining. those tools have been de facto parallel programming libraries for cluster computing where a cluster consists of usually homogeneous uniprocessor machines. Recent advances in processor technologies made it possible to build a cluster of multiprocessor machines more economically. In addition, a new programming language, Java, and its associated technologies opened a door to flourish of new and more efficient development of distributed computing software. Virtual Cluster computing (VCluster) library is a portable parallel runtime system we have developed to support parallel programs that run on the cluster of heterogeneous uni- and multi-processors. In this paper, we briefly introduce the features of VCluster system and describe how parallel programs can be developed efficiently with VCluster. We also present the experimental results showing the performance of the developed system on two exemplary applications, heat diffusion and back propagation neural network, and compare them with other systems. © ECMS, 2005.

the fields of probability and statistics are built over the abstract concepts of probability space and random variables. this has given rise to elegant and powerful mathematical theory but exact implementation of these concepts on conventional computers seems impossible. Finding high-quality and efficient algorithms for random number generation on parallel computers is even more difficult. One of the reasons good parallel random number generators are so hard to create is that any small correlations that exist in the sequential generator may be amplified by the method used to distribute the sequence among the processors, producing stronger correlations in the subsequences on each processor. Inter-processor correlations may also be introduced. Also, the method to specify the seeds for each processor is greatly important, since any correlations between the seeds on the different processors could produce strong inter-processor correlations. However, we found the random number generator by L'Ecuyer based on the combination of four linear congruential generators is a good example for both sequential and parallel implementations. It has a large domain and inherently parallel property where each processor is assigned to generate one or more sequences independently and our parallel implementation generates the same random number sequence as the sequential implementation. We mainly present the issues related to the parallel implementation of this algorithm using a shared memory workstations with OpenMP. In the implementation, multiple virtual generators work in parallel. Our solution is scalable with the number of processors and provides locality. It also maintains all properties of its sequential implementation with significant absolute and relative speedup, and significant efficiency and iso-efficiency.

Computer Generated Holography (CGH) is considered a promising candidate for realizing 3D display with complete depth features. However, the realization of a largescale CGH requires a huge computation time. this paper proposes a method for decomposing an input object into sub-objects and generating sub-holograms from them utilizing interpolation. the major advantage of this method is that the generation processes become mutually independent and can be executed in parallel without communication and synchronization. After presenting the theory of interpolation method, we will show how we can implement the method on GPU using data-parallel operations. We will also show the simulation and optical reconstruction results that verify the correctness of the method. Finally, we will present the preliminary results of our experiment by using GPU.

System capacity planning is a very useful method to predict which hardware will be necessary to run an IT system with high performance. the proposed tool in this paper is developed to ease this hard and important job, automating the analysis of the software in different ways. It uses the discrete-event type simulation based on a queue theory model to represent the hardware and software interaction. the model presented in this paper represents a simplification of any batch IT systems. In this type of system, commonly we have a lot of transactions that need to be processed by the system without human interaction and frequently use the benefits of parallel processing for better performance. We can apply these ideas to represent the workload in the simulation model as simple tasks that enter the system to be processed. Results show that it is possible to use this model to represent the real system with good fidelity.

the bulk synchronous parallel (BSP) is a celebrated synchronization model for general-purpose parallel computing that has successfully been employed for distributed training of machine learning models. A prevalent shortcoming of the BSP is that it requires workers to wait for the straggler at every iteration. To ameliorate this shortcoming of classic BSP, we propose ELASTICBSP a model that aims to relax its strict synchronization requirement. the proposed model offers more flexibility and adaptability during the training phase, without sacrificing on the accuracy of the trained model. We also propose an efficient method that materializes the model, named ZIPLINE. the algorithm is tunable and can effectively balance the tradeoff between quality of convergence and iteration throughput, in order to accommodate different environments or applications. A thorough experimental evaluation demonstrates that our proposed ELASTICBSP model converges faster and to a higher accuracy than the classic BSP. It also achieves comparable (if not higher) accuracy than the other sensible synchronization models.

In this paper, an application of the analogical modeling and numerical simulation of the technical processes through the matrix of partial derivatives of the state vector (M-pdx) associated with Taylor series is presented. the residual water blunting process is modeled as a distributed parameters process through the usage of equations with partial derivatives. In this approach the variation of the main output signal of the process (the chemical's pH value) both in relation with time and length of the tanks is considered.
