Residential high-rise buildings are the domain of large cities, urban agglomerations and metropolitan areas. the dynamic urbanization of the residential environment is resulting in increasingly dense population and development, which, unfortunately, is associated with limited access to housing resources for the average citizen. In this article, special interest is focused on the evaluation and categorization of the composition, functions and structures of residential high-rise buildings and their close surroundings (neighborhoods). the proposed application, based on the collected data about the customer, his needs and preferences arising from his personal life, professional work, educational needs, financial situation, etc., will give a preliminary answer as to whether the "indicated" apartment in a tall building meets his requirements and possibilities. this article is an attempt develop an application to classify European residential tall buildings and their living environment with a use of machine learning techniques and models. the presented assumptions of the application are a preliminary approach to the problem of supporting the process of finding housing (for rent or purchase) that meets the requirements of habitat.

As job ads are getting more prevalent online, an automated analysis is becoming increasingly important, especially in the field of human resource management. In this paper, we propose an approach to automatically segment job ads by predefined categories like the description of a job or the offering company, which is needed to categorize and quantify different aspects of job ads. Using a manually annotated data set, textual features are extracted for each segment type in a first step and utilized to train state-of-the-art machine learning classification methods. Subsequently, these models are used by iterative algorithms to detect the individual segments. Using several optimization techniques like detecting typical segment start phrases, comprehensive evaluations show promising results. © 2023, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

the slow adoption of e-learning in Higher education institutions (HEIs) in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been attributed to many Information Technology (IT) success factors or factors related to the management of IT. While many researchers were able to identify legitimate factors that have an impact on the adoption of e-learning, the impact of the cultural factors has not been thoroughly studied. the HEIs in the UAE have implemented e-learning solutions developed in Western countries. When these e-learning solutions are used without any cultural pedagogical consideration, they are creating inequitable learning conditions for UAE students. this case study aimed to investigate the role of the western-oriented culture e-learning pedagogy on the adoption of e-learning among UAE female students. Data was collected qualitatively from interviews with colleagues who are using western-oriented cultural pedagogies in their e-learning classes. A pattern matching technique was used to analyse the collected data. the cultural constructs of the Unified theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) were used as a lens to guide this study. the findings revealed the impact of the western-oriented pedagogy of Blackboard Learn (BBLearn) on the slow adoption of e-learning in the researchers' department. this study confirmed the importance of the local UAE culture on the adoption of e-learning and calls for further studies in that domain. © 2022 Proceedings of the 19th international conference on Cognition and Exploratory learning in the Digital Age, CELDA 2022. Computer-assisted systems have been widely used as tools to support medical experts in various fields, including the analysis of cervical cytology. However, due to patient privacy and ethical considerations, processing the model is challenging due to insufficient data in medical imaging. Data augmentation has gained popularity as a solution to this problem, especially in sectors where large datasets are unavailable, thereby increasing the size of a training dataset. this study aimed to identify a data augmentation technique to detect cervical cancer. To conduct this analysis, we systematically reviewed secondary studies published between 2017 and 2023 using the search term 'data augmentation', 'cervical cancer' and 'deep learning' from databases including Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, IEEEXplore, Science Direct, and conducted a manual search on Google Scholar. the results showed that data augmentation techniques are categorized as basic methods and artificial image generation. Among basic data augmentation techniques, rotation and flipping are the most widely used. In the generation of artificial images, DCGAN is used to create high-quality synthetic images. Basic augmentation is used for both segmentation and classification tasks, while artificially generated techniques are used exclusively for classification tasks. Consequently, all these techniques enhance the performance and generalizability of deep learning models by increasing the size of the dataset.

In the last few years, and particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, E-learning has become a very important and strategic asset for our society, relevant both for academic and industry settings, involving participants ranging from students to professionals. Different applications have been developed to support E-learning to be an effective tool, particularly in relation to the software engineering and programming areas. However, in order to be effective, in particular within academic settings, such tools require students to be continuously engaged and motivated to learn both practical and theoretical aspects. the integration of gamification in educational environments has gained considerable prominence as a potential mean to augment students’ motivation and involvement, providing them with immediate feedback and reinforcement, bolstering their sense of accomplishment and motivation to persist in their studies. However, to design gamified applications that can effectively engage and motivate users, as the literature has demonstrated, it is required to consider psychological, sociological, and human behavioural aspects, often referred to as Acceptance Requirements. this study presents a case study, where a Goal Modeling-based, Systematic, Acceptance Requirements Analysis and Gamification Design process, has been applied, by using the Agon framework, to prototype a gamified tool, aiming at engaging students towards learning both theory and practice related to a "Web-Based Mobile App Development" university module. To evaluate our proposed prototype, students were involved to use our proposed gamified prototype. the results show that our gamification solution can engage and motivate students towards learning both theoretical and practical aspects of the module. © 2024 by SCITEPRESS – Science and Technology Publications, Lda.

the role of persuasive strategies is crucial in designing systems to influence behaviour. Understanding how students are affected by these strategies is critical to creating customized motivational interventions and educational methods that boost student motivation, engagement, and, ultimately, academic success. In the realm of persuasive technology in education, more research that leverages the Self-Determination theory (SDT) of motivation is needed to understand the impact of persuasive strategies, such as Self-monitoring, Commitment and Consistency, Social Comparison, and Competition on student learning. Our study sought to investigate the responsiveness of undergraduate students (N=185) to these persuasive strategies and how they correlate with the principles of SDT. the findings indicate that strategies such as commitment& consistency, and self-monitoring are more effective in motivating students toward specific educational objectives than competition and social comparison. Our research also uncovered diverse connections between student persuadability and the SDT constructs. Based on our results, we propose guidelines for designing more motivational education systems. these insights may help to develop and personalize persuasive educational systems and interventions.
