Large sparse second order index-1 descriptor systems arise in various disciplines of science and engineering, such as constraint mechanics or multibody dynamics, mechatronics (where mechanical and electrical elements are coupled), but also RLC circuit design. Simulation, controller design and design optimization are only some applications of such models. Either of these tasks, just like any other many-query situation becomes unfeasible when the system is high dimensional. this paper discusses an algorithm to obtain a reduced state space model of a large sparse second order index-1 system using an interpolatory projection method based on the iterative rational Krylov algorithm (IRKA). In each iteration of this algorithm, we need to solve a number of linear systems. the main contribution of this paper is to solve these linear systems by exploiting the sparsity of the original model, which reduces the computational cost drastically. the algorithm is applied to a micro-mechanical piezo-actuated structural FEM model of a certain building block of a machine tool. Numerical experiments with a complex 3d model of an adaptive spindle support (a piezo-mechanical multiphysics system) show the effectivity and efficiency of the techniques.

this paper describes an approximated zeroing with an equivalent disturbance observer and predictive controller for drive systems. then this linear controller structure is changed by fuzzy logic such that the controller makes the system respond quickly if the error e is large and vice versa in order to obtain a robust controller which is insensitive to both the plant noise and the observation noise. Next, a variable structure PI controller by fuzzy logic for drive systems is introduced. then, this control scheme is implemented with neural networks. these controllers are realized with digital signal processors. the experimental results are given. Lastly, the applications of neuro fuzzy methods to invertors, convertors, motion controls and sensors are explained.< >

this work introduces an approach to adding timing information to UML diagrams for modeling embedded systems. In order to perform automated formal analysis of these UML diagrams with timing information, we extend a previously developed UML formalization framework to provide Promela semantics for the timing elements of the UML diagrams. the paper describes the application of our approach to an electronically controlled steering system obtained from one of our industrial collaborators.

With the collaboration of several intelligent services, a crowd intelligence service network has been formed, and a service ecosystem has gradually emerged. As a novel service organization model, the Service Ecosystem (SE) can provide more sophisticated, precise, and thorough services and has attracted widespread attention. However, it also brings negative effects such as involution, and information cocoon room. thus, how to analyze the collaborative decision-making mechanism between the SE regulation algorithm and the crowd intelligence group, exploring the reasons behind the negative effects, and finding effective intervention strategies have become problems in this field. To solve the challenges, we propose a Computational Experiments-based method Decision-making processes Analysis model in SE, namely CEDA. the proposed CEDA model consists of three modules: the autonomous evolution mechanism module, the learning evolution mechanism module, and the collaborative decision-making analysis module. Among them, the computational experiments can provide a customized test environment for the analysis of collaborative decision-making processes and find out the appropriate intervention strategy. Finally, the validity of the CEDA model is verified through the case of academic ecosystem involution. the results show that computational experiments can provide new ideas and paths for collaborative decision-making processes analysis. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Recently development of the new concept motor for EV/HEV becomes very active. Due to the demands of expanding the high efficiency and controllable torque area, we proposed a novel Claw Pole Type Half-Wave Rectified Variable Field Flux Motor (CP-HVFM). this motor is simple and robust brushless structure and has variable field flux performance. this paper introduces the principle of variable field flux excitation method. And we evaluate an influence of the variable field flux on the torque and efficiency characteristics.

With the increasing complexity of large scale distributed (LSD) systems, an efficient monitoring mechanism has become an essential service for improving the performance and reliability of such complex applications. the paper presents a scalable, dynamic, flexible and nonintrusive monitoring architecture for managing large scale distributed (LSD) systems. this architecture, which is referred to as the HiFi monitoring system, detects and classifies interesting primitive and composite events and performs either a corrective or steering action. When appropriate, information is also disseminated to management applications, such as reactive control tools. the outlined solution offers improvements over related works by supporting new monitoring techniques such as hierarchical filtering based monitoring and filter incarnation that improve the monitoring scalability and dynamism which are required for managing large scale distributed systems. the HiFi monitoring system has been implemented and used at the Old Dominion University for monitoring and steering Interactive Remote Instruction (IRI) which is a large scale distributed multimedia system for distance learning.

Wind systems connected to a three-phase voltage grid often experience unbalanced voltage conditions, due to differences in the loads in the grid. this issue is particularly important in wind energy conversion systems (WECS) that use the doubly fed induction generator (DFIG). therefore, it is important to take into account unbalanced conditions when coupling the wind generator with the grid, especially since the stator of the DFIG is directly connected to the grid. In this paper, the DFIG is modeled under low asymmetrical voltage fault in the grid in order to control the power flow between the generator and the grid. A proportional integral (PI) controller is used and simulated in the study using Matlab/Simulink. the results show that the oscillations in the electromagnetic torque and the total active power can be controlled effectively to improve the quality of the power delivered to the grid. © 2017 IEEE.

Inexpensive but accurate hardware clocks are now commonplace on many systems. A clock synchronization protocol can keep the collection of clocks for a group of networked systems roughly synchronized without the expenditure of a great deal of processor time or network bandwidth. As long as the bounded skew between clocks is taken into account, rough real time can provide an intuitive and valuable mechanism for providing a notion of order in a distributed system. this paper presents a straightforward token-based protocol for the detection of distributed deadlock under the single resource model. It uses clock values as token time stamps to ensure that exactly one process in a deadlock cycle, the process that completed the cycle, detects the deadlock and aborts, breaking the deadlock. the clock-valued time stamps also ensure that no false deadlocks are detected, without additional protocol to eliminate obsolete tokens. Arguments for the correctness of the protocol are developed.

this paper describes a micro-scale sputter ion pump and its use in the controlled reduction of pressure in a large cavity package. the pump is composed of titanium electrodes on a glass substrate which are sputtered away and form the source of Ti ions that react and bind with oxygen and nitrogen. the discharges are powered by DC and pulsed DC high voltage. the duration of applied voltage determines the amount of sputtered titanium and consequently, the pressure reduction inside a cavity. To date, the pressure inside sealed commercial packages of volumes 6.33 cm 3 and 2.2 cm 3 , has been reduced by 168 Torr and 126 Torr, respectively.

We propose a cost model for selectivity estimation of predictive spatio-temporal window queries. Initially, we focus on uniform data proposing formulae that capture both points and rectangles, and any type of object/query mobility combination (i.e., dynamic objects, dynamic queries or both). then, we apply the model to nonuniform datasets by introducing spatio-temporal histograms, which in addition to the spatial, also consider the velocity distributions during partitioning. the advantages of our techniques are (i) high accuracy (1-2 orders of magnitude lower error than previous techniques), (ii) ability to handle all query types, and (iii) efficient handling of updates.
