Biometrics technology has been attracting extensive attention from researchers of personal authentication due to the ever growing demand on access control, public security, forensics and e-banking. Diverse biometric systems have been now widely used in various applications. the palmprint is most popular modality that has the largest shares in the biometrics market. In this paper, an efficient online personal identification system based on palmprint is proposed. Firstly, the palmprint is filtered by the Gabor filter. the real and imaginary responses of the filtering are used to create three different feature vectors. Subsequently, the Hidden Markov Model (HMM), the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and the Radial Basis Function (RBF) are used for modeling and so for classifying the feature vectors. the results of the three classifiers are combined using matching score level fusion strategy. the proposed system is tested and evaluated using PolyU 2D and 3D palmprint database of 250 persons. the obtained experimental results show that the system yields the best performance for identifying palmprint and it is able to provide the highest degree of biometrics-based system security.

the tight coupling among computation, sensing and control found in Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) often requires information processing to be completed within strict timing deadlines. Traditional hard real-time scheduling algorithms require the use of the worst-case execution times to guarantee that deadlines will be met. Unfortunately, many algorithms with parameters derived from sensing the physical world suffer from large variations in execution time, which leads to pessimistic overall utilization. For example, object tracking in a computer vision system is highly dependent on the number and size of the objects within the camera's field of view. In this paper, we present the formal description of ZS-QRAM [8], a scheduling approach that allows system designers to flexibly assign execution times and application-derived utility to tasks in order to maximize total system utility even in the presence of highly variable processing estimates. In particular, we provide a detailed description of the algorithm, the formal proofs for its temporal protection and a detail evaluation. Our evaluation uses the Utility Degradation Resilience (UDR) metric presented in [8]. Our results show that ZS-QRAM is able to obtain four times as much UDR as ZSRM, a previous overbooking approach, and almost twice as much UDR as Rate-Monotonic with Period Transformation (RM/TP) even when the latter does not provide temporal protection.

We present a new microfluidic method for dynamically assaying bacterial aerotaxis and controlling taxis-based bacterial self-assembly. the method utilizes an electrochemical oxygen-generating technology previously developed by our group [ 1]. this device uses electrolysis at many microelectrodes to generate controlled doses of dissolved oxygen; these doses can be superimposed to pattern microscale gradients with precise spatial and temporal resolution. We demonstrate our method by performing aerotaxis experiments with B. subtilis, an obligatory aerobe. We show how this method of generating oxygen gradients with microscale resolution can be used to perform: 1) dynamic response assays of traditional bacterial suspensions not possible with existing methods, and 2) studies on oxygen responses of single bacterium. We also show that the basic premise only functions in a microscale environment. Lastly, we demonstrate how this method can be used to self-assemble large-density and small numbers of bacteria into pre-determined patterns using aerotaxis.

In some future industrial applications of the multimedia field, moving TV images could give useful information. However, the automatic recognition level of such color moving images achieved by computer is not high enough to understand all things. To overcome this problem, a new method based on multimedia fusion and integration using extracted common concepts is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, common concepts, such as time and number of people are extracted from multiple data sources such as image, scenario document and sound. Cooperation between various media is carried out by exchanging these common concepts. According to the results of the experiments using a TV drama scene, this system could successfully realize good synchronizations between image, scenario and sound. this system also could realize personal character identification.< >

the nature of wireless communication protocols used in automotive industry (eg. TPMS - Tire Pressure Monitoring System, RKE Remote Key-less Entry or PEPS- Passive Entry & Passive Start) and fact, that transmission between remote sensor and main controller has to be received and correctly decoded, require sophisticated receiver systems. Complexity of systems installed in modern vehicles and variety of multiple conditions cause that verification and validation is the most difficult step of whole design process. Especially important part, that must be carefully checked, is behavior of a system in case of incorrect transmission. these false conditions should be repetitive, exact and comprehensive. Usage of Software Defined Radio (SDR) technique makes posible to fulfill all mentioned above requirements. this article describes utilization of SDR modeling with GNURadio to achieve flexible and very powerful Verification Platform for one-way automotive communication protocols. Description is focused on TPMS module however our solution works well for other protocols such as PEPS, RKE and similar.

Increase in traffic over internet by large number of mobile devices results into high energy consumption on network devices. In this paper, we address the necessity to reduce the energy consumption in a campus network that includes both wired and wireless network devices. Specifically, we propose dynamic link rate adaptation mechanism on Software Defined Network (SDN) switches and control power consumption on Access Points (APs) by using users association to an AP. Moreover, our online flow routing approach dynamically routes user traffic in order to decrease the overall energy consumption of whole network while taking in consideration Quality of Service (QoS), acceptance ratio on forwarding table and link BandWidth (BW) constraints. Our simulation result shows that our approach results in 3.69% less power consumption, and furthermore, there is no congested links nor overflow in flow table as compared to Dijkstra Ant colony Power (DAPower) that has 2 congested links for 150 users in a network, each generating 34 flows.

the paper investigates the possibility of the Tensor Product (TP) type polytopic modelling of the quasi Linear Parameter Varying (qLPV) model formulation of the Bergman minimal model with the aim to fit the model to the modern polytopic and Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) based control design methodologies. the paper proofs that the Higher Order Singular Value Decomposition (HOSVD) based canonical form as an exact TP type polytopic representation of the Bergman minimal model exist. the paper also determines and evaluates this TP model via TP model transformation. Various convex hulls for the Bergman minimal model were systematically constructed by TP model transformation enabling convex hull manipulation based optimisation in LMI-based control design.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a type of dementia that leads to memory loss and impairment, which affects patients' lives badly. It is not curable yet, but its progression can be slowed down if detected at earlier stages. In this research study, we propose a transfer learning-based convolutional neural network (CNN) model to classify magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) into one of four stages of Alzheimer's disease. One of the major limitations of the deep learning-based classification model is the non-availability of healthcare datasets related to AD. the widely used Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) dataset has a major class imbalance issue. We propose a generative adversarial network (GAN) based data augmentation technique to overcome the data imbalance. this promotes the investigation of applying GANs to generate synthetic samples for minority classes in Alzheimer's disease datasets to enhance classification performance. the results show the progression in the overall classification process of AD. © 2024 the Authors. the Gene Ontology (GO) is a controlled vocabulary of terms to describe protein functions. It also includes a hierarchical description of the relationships among the terms in the form of a directed acyclic graph (DAG). Several systems have been developed that employ pattern recognition to assign gene function, using a variety of features, including sequence similarity, presence of protein functional domains and gene expression patterns, but most of these approaches have not considered the hierarchical structure of the GO. the DAG represents the functional relationships between the GO terms, thus it should be an important component of an automated annotation system. We propose a Bayesian, multi-label classifier that incorporates the relationships among GO terms found in the GO DAG. A comparative analysis of our method to other previously described annotation systems shows that our method provides improved annotation accuracy when the performance of individual GO terms are compared. More importantly, our method enables the classification of significantly more GO terms to more proteins than were previously possible.

the developed in this paper decision-making method for sound volume control in the “Smart House” system provides automatic control of sound volume in the “Smart House” system in order to prevent exceeding sound volume standards depending on the type of room and time of day, as well as to ensure a comfortable noise (sound volume) level in the appropriate room. the results of the experiment have shown that the developed decision-making method for sound volume control in the “Smart House” system provides for the recognition of situations (optimal sound volume, high sound volume, unacceptable high sound volume) and automatic decision-making on sound volume control in a room of a certain type (automatic reduction of the sound volume of multimedia devices in the room to the maximum permissible level for it).
