Large sparse second order index-1 descriptor systems arise in various disciplines of science and engineering, such as constraint mechanics or multibody dynamics, mechatronics (where mechanical and electrical elements are coupled), but also RLC circuit design. Simulation, controller design and design optimization are only some applications of such models. Either of these tasks, just like any other many-query situation becomes unfeasible when the system is high dimensional. this paper discusses an algorithm to obtain a reduced state space model of a large sparse second order index-1 system using an interpolatory projection method based on the iterative rational Krylov algorithm (IRKA). In each iteration of this algorithm, we need to solve a number of linear systems. the main contribution of this paper is to solve these linear systems by exploiting the sparsity of the original model, which reduces the computational cost drastically. the algorithm is applied to a micro-mechanical piezo-actuated structural FEM model of a certain building block of a machine tool. Numerical experiments with a complex 3d model of an adaptive spindle support (a piezo-mechanical multiphysics system) show the effectivity and efficiency of the techniques.

A segment control scheme of inductive power transfer (IPT) system for rail transit is proposed in this paper. In this scheme, the power supply range of primary coils along the track is segmented into several intervals and the several sets of pickups are installed aboard. When the vehicle runs, the switching frequency and the reference current of inverters is modulated with the position of the pickup coils by loop-closed control of output voltage. A 750V IPT prototype has been built in our Lab. the validity of the segment control scheme is verified by the experiment results of resistive load and powering the vehicle.

this paper outlines the aspects of architectural design of an advanced parallel computer system applicable to flexible manufacturing system (FMS). the proposed architecture is based on an advanced parallel computer network utlising combinations of star multiring-multibus configuration. Incorporating parallel processing network in FMS architecture fulfils the effective management requirements as well as improving speed, accuracy, reliability, performance of the system and quality of products. Fault Tolerance, flexibility and selfreconfiguribility of the overall system is further improved by incorporating artificial intelligence and expert system in the body of the database management system. In this paper, we propose an open source web-based emotion retrieval service for textual contents, called MediaTagger, which can extract emotional value from online content coming from diversified Internet-based services. MediaTagger mashes up state of the art emotion services and allocates the right emotion retrieval service with several emotion visualization metaphors based on the content of each service. MediaTagger also incorporates a flexible and adaptable emotion authoring service based on Naïve Bayes machine learning theorem. the authoring service within the system also helps creating new domains of emotion extraction services. Finally, we share some quantitative and qualitative results that show the viability of our system as well as the experience and satisfaction of regular end-users. © 2013 by Knowledge systems Institute Graduate School.

In this paper, we proposed image based indoor automatic flight system of quadcopter to follow a user defined flight guideline on the floor by utilizing its own camera installed in the bottom of the drone for autonomous indoor flight of the quadcopter system. For this paper, we configure the hardware with quadcopter and GCS using notebook. GCS analyzes the sensor signals including image signal from quadcopter and send motor command signal to quadcopter. the autonomous flight algorithm is divided into an image processing system and a drone control system. this system analyzed the image signal from drone camera, and estimated direction and position of the guideline, and sent motor commands to drone. We verified the image based automatic flight control system by modeling and simulation. We confirmed that the quadcopter was autonomous flying properly along the guideline on the floor by modeling and simulation.

In the past, poorly designed alarm systems and inadequate alarm management contributed to the emergence of critical events with partially serious consequences. Based on the experience gained from these incidents, guidelines were created with recommendations for the design of alarm systems and alarm management. A comprehensive checklist has been developed to analyze the current design quality of alarm systems and alarm management and has been used in various control rooms across different branches of industry in Germany. Using the checklist, design deficiencies can be identified and action needs can be derived. So far, the results also show systematic differences in the application of the checklist between individual assessors and between groups of assessors.

In this paper we present a framework for determining the intersection of geometric objects based on the 9-Intersection model used in qualitative spatial reasoning. Triangle-triangle intersection is the computational basis for interaction between 2D/3D objects;hence a fast, robust intersection detection algorithm is beneficial. Additionally, we present efficient predicates for classification of the intersections. this work is applicable for most region connection calculi, particularly, VRCC-3D+, which detects intersections in 3D as well as projections in 2D for occlusion detection. © 2013 by Knowledge systems Institute Graduate School.

A worldwide trend in advanced manufacturing countries is defining Industrie 4.0, Industrial Internet and Factories of the Future as a new wave that can revolutionize the production and its associated services. Cyber-Physical systems (CPS) are central to this vision and are entitled to be part of smart machines, storage systems and production facilities able to exchange information with autonomy and intelligence. Such systems should be able to decide and trigger actions, and control each other independently and for such reason it is required the use of Knowledge based and intelligent information approaches. In this paper we present our perspective on how to support Industrie 4.0 with Knowledge based and intelligent systems. We focus in the conceptual model, architecture and necessary elements we believe are required for a real world implementation. We base our conceptualization in the experiences gathered during the participation in different ongoing research projects where the presented architecture is being implemented. (C) 2015 the Authors. An efficient approach to determine an activation policy for scanning sensor network monitoring a distributed process over some spatial domain is proposed. Given a finite number of potential sensor the scheduling problem is defined so as to maximize a criterion defined on the Fisher information matrix associated with the estimated parameters. then, applying an efficient continuous approximation of the the related combinatorial problem, the multi-exchange procedure adopting pairwise communication schemes is developed, which distributes the configuration process between the network nodes. Finally, the delineated approach is illustrated via simulations on a sensor network scheduling problem for a two-dimensional convective diffusion process.
