Peak Age of Information(PAoI), as a performance indicator representing the freshness of information, has attracted the attention of researchers in recent years. the data packet transmission rate in the LoRa network determines the information freshness level for system packets. In order to study the optimal scheduling of data packets, we try to use the PAoI to describe the real-time level of the end devices(EDs) and reduce it. We use edge servers to process monitoring data packets at the edge of the network to improve the efficiency of EDs and the information freshness level of data. Since packet transmission will be constrained by EDs battery queue energy and gateway queue backlog, we propose an optimization problem that aims to minimize the long-term average PAoI of EDs while ensuring network stability. With the Lyapunov optimization framework, the long-term stochastic optimization problem is transformed into a single-slot optimization problem. Furthermore, to avoid the problem of too large search space, we propose a dynamic strategy space reduction algorithm (SSDR) to shrink the strategy space. the simulation experiments show that our SSDR algorithm can optimize the PAoI index of EDs in various situations and satisfy the constraints of long-term optimization. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

Gesture recognition plays a pivotal role in enabling natural and intuitive human-computer interaction (HCI), finding applications in diverse domains such as smart homes, robot control, and virtual reality. thanks to advances in computer vision, the most popular method currently is to use the camera for gesture recognition. However, the camera struggles to function properly in poor lighting and inclement weather, and risks invading privacy. Due to the robust and non-invasive features of millimeter-wave radar, gesture recognition based on millimeter-wave radar has received extensive attention from researchers in recent years. In this paper, we propose a novel graph neural network named STAPointGNN for gesture recognition using millimeter-wave radar. In order to better extract features in the spatial and temporal dimensions of point clouds collected by millimeter-wave radar, we designed a spatial-temporal attention mechanism based on graph neural network. We also propose a novel point flow embedding method to capture the motion features of the point clouds in adjacent frames. To verify the superiority of our method, we conduct experiments on two public millimeter-wave radar gesture recognition datasets. the results show that our model outperforms existing mainstream algorithms. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2024.

the inspection of railway systems with traditional wayside detectors allows mainly the detection of wheels and axle bearings defects and can be time-demanding, unsafe, and heavily dependent on humans. To overcome these issues and then optimize and automate the rail and track diagnosis process, drones can be an excellent solution thanks to their onboard state-of-the-art cameras and sensors. thus, with the aim of rapidly collecting highly accurate data, an innovative hybrid movable railway diagnostic architecture, consisting of a diagnostic train and a fleet of drones, is defined in this work. From the control point of view, the main interest is in optimally managing the crucial phase of drones returning to and landing on the moving train when the railway inspection mission is completed. To control the fleet of drones, a combination of consensus algorithm in the leader-following mode and linear quadratic regulator (LQR) is implemented for the flight formation phase and the landing phase on the moving base platform (i.e., the diagnostic train), respectively. the landing phase is performed both as vertical or oblique descent through a go to goal and as oblique descent along a predefined path. the obtained results of the railway diagnostic architecture simulations are presented and discussed in detail. In particular, they show that the vertical and oblique descent performed as go to goal are certainly faster than the oblique descent along a predefined path. © 2023 IEEE.

this paper presents a study on applying online machine-learning models to estimate the processing times of different production tasks for dynamic scheduling problems. Specifically, various machine-learning approaches and their impact on the schedule quality are evaluated. A discrete event simulation of a production process was created, with different functions determining processing time. this production simulation was optimized with the OERAPGA optimization algorithm. Based on the experiments, the performance of different machine learning models was assessed. Moreover, the speed and prediction quality of these models and their resulting optimization quality were evaluated. Results showed that the speed of evaluation plays a more significant role in optimization quality than prediction accuracy, as the optimizer seems to be focused on optimizing macroscopic aspects of the production schedule. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In the digital age, computer programming skills are in high demand, and collaborative learning is essential for its development. computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) systems enable real-time collaboration among students, regardless of their location, by offering resources and tools for programming tasks. To optimize the learning experience in CSCL systems, user profiling can be used to tailor educational content, adapt learning activities, provide personalized feedback, and facilitate targeted interventions based on individual learners' needs, preferences, and performance patterns. this paper describes a framework that can be applied to profile students of CSCL systems. By analysing log files, computational models, and quality measures, the framework captures various dimensions of the learning process and generates user profiles based on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality. the work also conducts a case study that applies this framework to COLLECE 2.0, a CSCL system that supports programming learning. Collaborative ontology editors and modern version control systems (VCS, such as Github or GitLab) have a prominent role among the best practices of ontology development process. Integrating VCS functionality into collaborative ontology editors is essential for an effective and seamless ontology development workflow. Unfortunately, such an integration is not present in the current landscape of openly licensed software yet. In this study, we aim to bridge this gap between collaborative ontology development and VCS by adding the most common version control workflows into the widely used open-source editor WebProtégé. these common workflows are mostly based on steps such as add, commit, push, clone, checkout and branch commands that can be executed by the REST API or command line of a VCS for a particular repository. Our solution includes associating WebProtégé users with VCS users based on personal access tokens for authenticated utilization of VCS REST APIs, harmonization and abstraction of the non-standard VCS REST API calls into the most common VCS workflows and integrating these workflows into WebProtégé using service and servlet components as well as a convenient Graphical User Interface (GUI). the solution is compatible with the most popular versioning environment Github alongside its open-source equivalent GitLab and is evaluated by its users based on the System Usability Scale (SUS) approach in the scope of this study. the service is publicly available at http://***/wp4tib and the code base can be found at https://***/TIBHannover/webprotege. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

NoSQL databases, such as HBase or Cassandra employ weak consistency models to provide good scalability and availability. However, they often lack functionality that would help programmers reason about the correctness of their applications. Notably, they do not support consistent batch operations that could be used for important tasks, such as batch updates or maintaining secondary indexes. Some systems add transaction support to NoSQL databases. However, they often bring much overhead to existing single-row operations. this paper proposes an efficient algorithm for supporting batch operations on existing NoSQL databases. It reuses the existing local timestamp and adds a global timestamp to ensure batch operations' consistency. Our implementation based on HBase shows that compared to transactional systems, our algorithm improves the throughput of batch operations by up to 2x. Meanwhile, the latency of single-row operations only increases by around 12%. In comparison, other transactional systems increase their latency by over 3x.

the classical transportation problem (TP), which entails the allocation of a (set of) product (products) from multiple origins to multiple destinations at the minimal feasible expense, encompasses a broad spectrum of significant transportation and industrial problems in reality. Within real-world scenarios, the supply capacities of goods at origins and the demands of goods at destinations are subject to variability and may be influenced by various internal and external factors. In this study, we develop a stochastic optimisation model for the classical TP that accounts for multiple types of products and uncertainty in both supply and demand quantities. this model includes uncertainties located on the right-hand side (RHS), making it a special type of stochastic models. To address this ensuing intricate problem, a matheuristic algorithm is constructed, composed of ideas from variable neighbourhood search (VNS), fixed set search (FSS), and partial mathematical optimisation. this algorithm demonstrates notable efficiency when compared to some alternative methodologies. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Breast cancer is one of the most important diseases that lead to death, according to the reports of the World Health Organization. Reports also indicated that breast cancer affects women more than men. Late or wrong diagnosis leads to a deterioration in the patient's condition and may lead to death. therefore, automated multiple classifications using machine learning of breast cancer from histopathological images plays a major role in the early diagnosis of the disease. Multiple classifications of breast cancer is the identification of tumors such as Carcinoma, Fibroadenoma, Cysts, etc. However, this type of classification faces many challenges such as extracting subtle differences between the binary classes of tumors and whether they are benign or malignant, strong coherence of tumor cells and widespread color heterogeneity. therefore, we propose in this paper the use of a sophisticated model that works on semantic segmentation and extracting distinctive patterns and classifying them using a deep neural network. the structured deep learning model performed impressively (average accuracy of 98.7%) on a large-scale data set, demonstrating the power of our method in providing an effective tool for classifying multiple breast cancers in clinical settings. © 2022 IEEE.
