In the software implementation of a general Ambient Intelligence (AmI) system, there are two major issues, on which depend the flexibility and the performance of the project. One is the implementation paradigm - how the various entities are organized and how they interact;the other is the management of context information, and how context-awareness is integrated as a first-class element in the implementation. this paper is framed in a research effort to develop an agent-based platform for AmI applications. While in previous research we have already argued in favor of using an agent-oriented paradigm for the implementation, and we have already introduced the concept of context graphs and context patterns, it is in this paper that we argue that matching context patters against context graphs is a valid method for detecting the user's situation and acting upon the user's context. In support of this, we analyze several algorithms for graph matching, adapted to our problem, and compare their performance on specific examples of context matching.

Tumors vascular networks are different from normal vascular networks, but the mechanisms underlying these differences are not known. Underlying these mechanisms may be key to improving the efficacy of the treatment of tumor. We studied possibility to apply two types of fractal measure: fractal dimension and succolarity for characterizing medical images. We find that fractal dimension value to the normal vasculature is smaller than the results for the tumor vasculature. Moreover, for applying succolarity the results do not vary considerable withthe direction in normal vasculature, while for tumor vasculature the curves differs significantly. In conclusion, the results obtained show that the fractal measure is an important tool for analyzing medical images.

In this paper, a series of system-theoretical issues in the frame of a traffic systems engineering are comprehensively addressed and discussed with a particular focus on a nonlinear dynamics perspective. Transportation systems are complex (systems of systems) nonlinear dynamical systems and their comprehensive engineering does involve amongst others the following steps: modeling/identification, simulation, system-state observation/measurement, and control/optimization. the particular message of this paper is that a significant improvement can be reached on each of these fronts, while compared to most related traditional approaches, by involving a series of adapted/optimized methodological instruments inspired and/or taken from the broad area of nonlinear dynamics, which also includes neuro-computing. For each of the above-cited steps, related limitations of most traditional approaches are presented. To finish, a selection of own novel contributions on each of the steps are shortly presented for illustrative purposes.

this paper investigates joint stabilization and disturbance attenuation problem of for a class of networked controlsystems subject to disturbance and packet dropout in the transmission channel. A condition for exponential stabilization of networked controlsystems under a given switching rule is derived by employing multiple Lyapunov-like functions. A design solution for switching H-inf controlthat compensates for packet dropout and attenuates disturbance is found in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Impulse impact is also studied in order to reduce theory-application discrepancy switching. An illustrative example is given along with its simulation results to demonstrate both feasibility and efficiency of the proposed method.

In dependable real-time systems, provision of schedulability guarantees for task sets under realistic fault and error assumptions is an essential requirement, though complex and tricky to achieve. An important factor to be considered in this context is the random nature of occurrences of faults and errors, which, if addressed in the traditional schedulability analysis by assuming a rigid worst case occurrence scenario, may lead to inaccurate results. In this paper we first propose a stochastic fault and error model which has the capability of modeling error bursts in lieu of the commonly used simplistic error assumptions in processor scheduling. We then present a novel schedulability analysis that accounts for a range of worst case scenarios generated by stochastic error burst occurrences on the response times of tasks scheduled under the fixed priority scheduling (FPS) policy. Finally, we describe a methodology for the calculation of probabilistic schedulability guarantees as a weighted sum of the conditional probabilities of schedulability under specified error burst characteristics.

there are many web platforms that are used to share non-textual content, such as videos, images, animations, etc. and that allow users to add comments for each item. YouTube is probably the most popular of them, with billions of videos uploaded by its users, but also with billions of comments for all these videos. While most of the videos only have a couple of comments, the most debated ones have tens of million comments. However, the platform does not provide any mechanism to filter the comments in order to get the most relevant ones, as the only provided ordering is in descending order of the publishing date. We propose a ranking mechanism for these comments that tries to determine the relevance of each comment to the individual video by automatically linking it to relevant web pages with textual information. three different ranking methods are discussed and their results are presented in order to offer a comparison among them.
