Web resources contain many reviews that can be used by both individuals and companies. the growing volume of these reviews becomes a problem for consumers who should read a number of reviews of other consumers to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the product. Opinion summarization is necessary to help consumers understand, in a simplified way, the large amount of reviews or present them summaries of opinion for the competing entities. In this article we present a graph-based summarization algorithm that simplifies the opinions messages graph taking into account three criteria: the graph filtering in order to remove the messages with opinions that do not refer to the target entity and the aggregation of the nodes that include opinions of the same polarity.

this paper is based on the results of a research project regarding the design and development of an Intelligent Haptic Robot-Glove (IHRG) for the rehabilitation of the patients that have a diagnosis of a cerebrovascular accident. the IHRG is an exoskeleton that supports the human hand and hand activities by using a control architecture for dexterous grasping and manipulation. the five-fingered assistive robotic glove is designed with mechanical compliance of human finger. the biomechanical elements of the exoskeleton assistive hand are designed considering: motion in different planes, adapted to patient's hand, possible to train pinch and grasp, opening/closing game. the actuation system is also studied and designed. the paper provides an overview of hand rehabilitation and evaluation techniques.

Vast arrays of reporting are nowadays in use, allowing ever increasing flexibility and control over the displayed results. However, as IT developed and became available to all business domains, the number of reports used by companies started to challenge the possibility of good management. the European funded project Questor aims to create a revolutionary product that will eliminate the complexities inherent in the report management workflow. the motivation of this project is to substitute the time consuming manual search for information in reports with an automatic one. the final purpose is to make querying the report database as simple as addressing a question in natural language. this paper gives an overview over the concept of the Questor project, its software architecture and its preliminary results.

Fractional order calculus has been used intensively to control various types of processes. the main approaches towards fractional order controllers focus on the single-input-single-output systems. the general design procedure consists in a frequency domain specification of various performance criteria followed by optimization routines. the implementation issues regarding fractional order controllers are based on Oustaloup approximations and are centered on SISO processes. the present paper addresses the problem of implementing on a microcontroller a fractional order multivariable controller for time delay processes. the paper presents a tuning algorithm for determining the parameters of the multivariable fractional order controller and the implementation issues. the multivariable time delay process is implemented in Matlab Simulink environment. the experimental results show that the fractional order multivariable controller implemented on a simple microcontroller provides similar results to that obtained by simulation, even under uncertainty conditions.

the current situation of environmental resources requires their efficient usage through efficient process control. But, process control can not be achieved without an essential component: the communication between all devices, such as sensors, controllers, actuators, programming stations etc. the aim is to achieve the irrigation process of plants in greenhouse conditions. therefore, it is submitted a comprehensive application that proposes to be a distributed control system including data acquisition and processing, both local and remote monitoring of the process parameters. the distributed system is based on modern equipment: Siemens Simatic PLCs and HMI, Memsic (e) over bar Ko Pro wireless sensors network, level sensors for irrigation tanks and actuators such as on/off valves and pumps. In terms of communication between equipments, an industrial bus and protocols were used - Profinet and wireless communication. the software part is provided by TIA Portal with STEP 7 and WinCC flexible RT and LOGO! Soft Comfort for programming the automation devices. ModbusTCP was used to develop the communication protocol between central devices.

the computational simplicity of Fault Detection and Diagnosis (FDD) schemes based on parameter estimation, as well as their suitability for integrated design with Fault Tolerant control (FTC), make them attractive from the point of view of their implementation within real-time practical applications. this paper focuses on the advantages that these methods can offer as opposed to state estimation and parity equations based system diagnosis, while also highlighting the disadvantages of the parameter estimation approach in view of identifying the problems that could benefit from a simultaneous state and parameter estimation based scheme. In order to achieve this objective, a system diagnosis procedure is proposed, which makes use of the Recursive Least Squares (RLS) method with exponential weighting and constant forgetting factor in view of detecting the occurrence of a fault within the system, as well as providing the post-fault system model. An application example from the aircraft control field is also presented in order to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed approach.

Picking is the process through which a single entity or a list of entities is selected from a scene. the subject of picking is both a rendering and a collision detection problem, with the majority of research being on optimizing the ray-scene intersection problem. Several algorithms that solve the picking problem exist in the context of rasterization, but all of them lack several of the features of our proposed solution while, with one exception, all being much more expensive in terms of computational time. We propose a novel single frame method which is able to correctly select not only primitives but also any type of objects that may appear on the screen at a fragment level including hardware instanced, alpha culled, hardware tessellated, hardware animated and particle systems. the proposed technique has optimal memory requirements and offers the opportunity to pick at micro polygon level and is not limited to the first contact, offering the full intersection list per ray if required to do so. the proposed technique offers further unique opportunities such as flexible fuzzy object selection and is the only technique that selects without disregarding opacity accumulation from transparent objects.

In this paper we are exploring how a process of collaborative learning evolves in an academic wiki space. In order to trace the potential of such a technological environment, we assume a comparative perspective by analyzing its specific structural features in comparison to other similar solutions designed to facilitate communication in project based activities (discussion boards, instant messaging software, mailing lists, task management tools). We argue that the process of collaborative learning emerges through multiple practices such as negotiating knowledge (processes of settling specialized information based on a configuration of social statuses), negotiating knowing (processes of settling social statuses based on a distribution of specialized information) and acceding to a common learning experience. Our considerations lie on the evaluation of a revision exercise (OSWiki) which has allowed us to reflect upon the assets and drawbacks of employing wiki technology in educational activities. Also, we formulate proposals which could refine students' encounters. With support both from literature, participatory observation and semi-structured interviews, we conclude that gamification could be a solution to enrich user experiences and endeavors in using wikis for academic purposes.

Developed in the mid 1970s, the technique based on genetic algorithms proved its usefulness in finding optimal or near optimal solutions to problems for which accurate solving strategies are either non-existent or require excessively long running time. We implemented a genetic algorithm to determine the parameters of a Sugeno fuzzy controller for the Truck Backer-Upper problem (this problem is considered an acknowledged benchmark in nonlinear system identification.). Less known at first than Mamdami fuzzy controllers, Sugeno fuzzy controllers became popular once they were included into the ANFIS neuro-fuzzy Matlab library. By their nature, Sugeno controllers can be regarded as interpolation functions. As we know, an interpolation function approximates a function with an unknown expression, yet whose values taken at a number of points in the definition domain (called Interpol nodes) are known. Normally, the interpolation function performs very well in the interpolation nodes, it but can have a totally unsatisfactory behaviour in other points of the definition domain. In our case, we considered interpolation nodes as the set of values used to assess chromosomes in order to apply genetic algorithm operations. We aimed to determine a set of values so as to obtain the most efficient controllers.

there are two main approaches in the mathematical modeling of coupled systems of (bio)chemical reactions: continuous, represented by differential equations whose variables are concentrations or discrete, represented by stochastic processes whose variables are numbers of molecules. the latter approach is used mostly for biochemical systems with a low to moderate number of molecules of certain species and this kind of systems are typically modeled as continuous time - discrete state Markov Process. there are exact stochastic algorithms to simulate state trajectories of discrete, stochastic systems and these algorithms are based on methods that are rigorously equivalent to the Master Equation approach. Two of the most widely used methods for simulating the stochastic dynamics of a chemical system are the exact stochastic simulation algorithm (SSA, known also as Gillespie algorithm) and its approximate variant, the tau-leaping algorithm. this paper describes a modified version of SSA - First reaction method - by letting the intensity rates of the reactions to be functions of time. the importance of this adaptation is obvious when considering some classes of biological models (for example, the one involving circadian rhythm). the underlying assumptions are that the system is well stirred such that at any moment, each reactions occur with equal probability at any position, that each reaction, once occurred, completes instantaneously (there are no reactions with delay involved) and that the system is non stiff (there are no different time scales of the reactions involved).
