the inspection of colour printing products constitutes a very important quality control (QC) task in the printing industry. Many defects on such products may be inspected by current commercially available vision systems. However, for the inspection of complex colour prints, the capabilities and performance of available systems are limited. the current practice in the printing industry is to inspect complex colour products manually. this process is labour-intensive and the results are not reliable as they vary withthe time, mood and personal skills of the inspectors. In this paper, the authors propose an algorithm to automate the colour prints inspection process, which incorporates colour histogram-based techniques for colour image processing and a neural network for image classification. Preliminary results have shown that this algorithm is able to inspect the defects of complex colour prints under varying illumination conditions. (C) 2003 Elsevier science B.V. All rights reserved.

Intrusion detection in SCADA systems has received increased attention from researchers as connectivity to public networks became a necessity in many industries. the nature and characteristics of SCADA systems call for special considerations and techniques of intrusion detection. Many works have been made in this field, ranging from generic intrusion detection techniques to customized solutions designed specifically for SCADA systems. In the recent years, some works have focused on using physical metrics in addition to the popular network-based and host-based intrusion detection approaches. this paper presents a taxonomy that considers the special features of cyberphysical intrusion detection systems (IDSs) with examples from the literature. Moreover, a case study is presented for a simulated gas pipeline dataset to compare the effectiveness of decision tree classifiers for various categories of features in SCADA systems. the results show that an IDS that uses a combination of physical and network metrics significantly outperforms an IDS that only uses network metrics or physical metrics. A characteristic element of heating systems is heat exchanger dedicated to efficient heat transfer from one medium to another. the paper presents simple models of a heating system with heat exchangers designed for studies of controlsystems based on a control of heat carriers flow. Presented studies are necessary for a development of new control strategies in heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. three variants of heat exchangers models were examined - a typical model containing the logarithmic mean of temperatures, a model including assumptions about the arithmetic mean of temperatures and a model with an assumption of perfect mixing of medium in an exchanger. Usefulness of the models in designing of controlsystems was verified under quasi-static conditions.

this paper presents a novel solution of an oscillator with electronically adjustable oscillation condition (CO) and frequency of oscillations (FO). Oscillation condition is controlled by current gain and frequency of oscillations is adjustable by transconductance and intrinsic resistance of used active elements. Both CO and FO are mutually independent. Moreover, special feature of CO allows boosting parameter driving FO (transconductance) and then shifting the whole FO range to higher bands. It allows to keep values of passive elements (capacitors especially) in satisfactory range even for higher value of FO. Simulations in PSpice confirms this hypothesis.
