The ability of IoT devices to sense and share various physical parameters plays a key role in a smart system. Along side benefits, it also bears the potential to cause a breach of privacy for the users of the smart-systems. Existing solutions for privacy-preserving computation for distributed systems either extensively use highly complex cryptographic techniques or exploit an extremely high degree of message passing among the devices through secure channels. However, for the resource-constrained IoT devices, which compose a significant fraction of the smart-systems, the existing solutions for privacy-preserving computation strategies does not fulfill the current requirements. To address this issue, in this work, we propose a novel real-time lightweight strategy LiPI for Privacy-Preserving Data Aggregation in low-power IoT systems. LiPI uses lightweight distributed and collaborative data obfuscation, which substantially minimizes the computation requirements. In addition, it exploits the recent advances in Synchronous-Transmission (st)-based protocols to efficiently fulfill the communication requirements too, making it efficient to work in real-time. Furthermore, LiPI also avoids dependency on any trusted third party. Extensive evaluation based on comprehensive experiments in both simulation platforms and publicly available WSN/IoT testbeds demonstrates that our strategy achieves the goal at least 51.7% faster and consumes 50.5% lesser energy compared to the existing state-of-the-art strategies.

We introduce a distributed memory parallel algorithm for force-directed node embedding that places vertices of a graph into a low-dimensional vector space based on the interplay of attraction among neighboring vertices and repulsion among distant vertices. We develop our algorithms using two sparse matrix operations, SDDMM and SpMM. We propose a configurable pull -push -based communication strategy that optimizes memory usage and data transfers based on computing resources and asynchronous MPI communication to overlap communication and computation. Our algorithm scales up to 256 nodes on distributed supercomputers by surpassing the performance of state-of-the-art algorithms

We present two new assignments in the Peachy Parallel Assignments series of assignments for teaching parallel and distributed computing. Submitted assignments must have been successfully used previously and are selected for being easy for other instructors to adopt and for being "cool and inspirational" so that students spend time on them and talk about them with others. The first assignment in this paper familiarizes students with the RAFT library for performing GPU-accelerated computation, pail of the RAPIDS AI ecosystem. students use this library to accelerate a Radius Nearest Neighbor computation, finding all points within a given distance from a query point. In the second assignment, students parallelize a bird flocking simulation using OpenMP or OpenACC. It is a visual assignment which allows students to readily see the performance improvement.

Smart solutions in the healthcare domain have garnered considerable attention due to their potential to enhance standard treatment methods and improve overall health. However, privacy concerns often prevent the sharing of healthcare data, which can limit the scope for improvement. In this context, Federated Learning (FL) has emerged as a transformative paradigm in machine learning. It enables collaborative model training across decentralised devices while preserving data privacy and security. This approach has gained significant traction in recent years, particularly within the healthcare sector. It offers unprecedented opportunities to harness collective intelligence from diverse healthcare datasets without compromising sensitive patient information. This survey paper summarises numerous research works that focus on the application of FL to address various healthcare challenges. Moreover, a comparison of these works is conducted, summarising the different technologies employed in each case. Therefore, in light of the previous remarks, this paper provides an up-to-date overview of the state of the art in the application of FL in the healthcare industry.

The pioneering research on message passing for Java (MPJ) which started after 1995 provided a crucially important framework and programming environment for parallel and distributed computing with Java. This framework resulted in an industry standard specification and a novel MPJ-based hierarchical development methodology for a new generation of large-scale distributed systems. The invention of a novel component-based model and methodology for rapid distributed software development and execution based on the MPJ work and achievements are the core contributions presented in this paper. Based on the high-performance Java component-based model, concepts and research results, grid, cloud, and extreme-scale computing represent a fundamental shift in the delivery of information technology services that has permanently changed the computing landscape.

distributed generation (DG) has led to a rise in the need for power generation. By reducing losses, enhancing energy quality, increasing energy reliability, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, DG helps with the distribution arrangement. The problem of DG assignment and specification must be addressed since installing DGs in challenging locations may lead to higher system costs and losses. This study outlines a method for optimizing the size and positioning of DG in power distribution feeders to lower total losses. Along with adjustments to existing procedures, this suggested approach incorporates techniques like the tabu search method and the mean randomized adaptive search procedure (MRASP). The effectiveness of the suggested approach is illustrated through a thorough comparison of the outputs of an operational distribution network. © 2024 ieee.

Accurate sensor node localization in wireless sensor networks is essential for many uses, such as smart cities, military operations, and environmental monitoring. In order to achieve precise and economical sensor node localization, this paper introduces a hybrid optimization approach that combines Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) with Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO). While GWO has better local search capabilities, PSO is renowned for its strong global search power. The suggested approach combines these two algorithms, utilizing their respective advantages to improve performance overall. To establish a good approximation of sensor node placements, PSO is first used. This provides a refined baseline for the GWO. GWO then refines these places even further in order to get greater accuracy. Simulation is used to validate the hybrid technique and show how well it works to precisely estimate sensor node locations within a constrained search space. When compared to PSO and GWO, the hybrid PSO-GWO algorithm enhances coverage accuracy by about 9.41% and 5.68%, respectively and positioning accuracy by about 9.76% compared to PSO and 5.88% compared to GWO. © 2024 ieee.

WSNs are regularly battery-powered and it is not continually feasible to recharge or replace them due to a variation of applications. Hence, in this work, a Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm based on routing and power restriction optimization has been proposed for improving the battery lifetime in wireless sensor network. The proposed approach aims to enhance the effective longevity of individual sensor nodes within the network by accomplishing energy-efficient clustering along with energy-aware routing. The outcomes of the suggested method are compared with the several existing optimization methods in WSNs. It is observed that the proposed Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (GOA) based technique outperforms all the other existing methods in terms of lifetime achieved under various power constraints. For checking robustness of approach, two different locations of base station and various populations of sensing nodes and gateways are also considered. © 2024 ieee.

Leader election is a classical problem in distributed systems in which the selection a coordinator node to perform tasks is necessary. However, coordinator can fail and this requires performing a leader election operation to choose a new coordinator. This study focuses on the Bully algorithm which uses a lot of messages and higher network traffic which are considered the main drawback. This paper provides a simple and adaptable adaptive bully algorithm that lowers the messages passing used and is simple and flexible. The algorithm utilizes only one node, called responsibility for the election, and a time span, where a time span is set for each node. These two procedures minimize leader election operations especially discovering failures from multiple processes in the system and messages passing. According to the results, the enhanced algorithm is better than the algorithm bully. It reduces the complexity of message passing during leader election operations. © 2024 ieee.
