This paper describes the implementation of a real-time power system simulator based on a distributed cluster of PC desktop computers. A Real-time power system simulator based on a PC-cluster can successfully cope with the size requirements of growing power systems and the computational demands of fast transient studies. The distributed version of OVNI is used as core solver in addition to a developed I/O interface card. With the developing of the distributed multimedia system, there are many researches focus on how to reduce the network traffic and how to initialize and gather the distributed multimedia resource. In this paper, we propose a robust system using Intelligent Mobile Agents to construct an automatic and adaptation mechanism for distributed multimedia synchronization. Furthermore, an adaptive Quality of Service (QoS) mechanism is also support by this system. The distributed Multimedia Synchronization Agent (DMSAgent) system is proposed to improve the efficiency of distributed multimedia network. Furthermore, using Intelligent and Mobile Agent technology will reduce the frequencies of handshaking between client and server.

The communication latency presents a major challenge to achieving high responsiveness for Internet-based cooperative editing systems. In this paper, we propose conflict control locking (post-locking) schemes for conflict resolution in real-time object-based cooperative graphics editors. With these schemes, no locking request is needed before applying an editing operation to an object, instead a lock will automatically be generated by the system ifa conflict occurs. Lock ownership assigning rules are devised for the schemes. With a specific post-locking approach, algorithms and implementation techniques, such as, lock synchronisation detection, voting, and group intention realisation, are discussed in detail.

The rapid increase in the use of the world wide web (WWW), along with the increased capacity of transmissions, has led to the need for an efficient architecture to retrieve multimedia information from the internet. To achieve this architecture, we have developed the Query Routing Server (QRS) which selects appropriate multimedia systems and modifies the searching path dynamically dependent on users' properties and environmental factors. Because the QRS works transparently over multimedia system, the legacy multimedia systems can cooperate with one another using the QRS. This means that the QRS allows users not only to retrieve multimedia information from network, but also to use various kinds of search engines without any special operations. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the QRS, we made a prototype of the distributed multimedia system with QRS and conducted several experiments which successfully showed the flexibility of the dynamic retrieval networks and the substantial reduction of response time.
