Hand hygiene is crucial in preventing the spread of infections and diseases. Lack of hand hygiene is one of the major reasons for healthcare associated infections (HAIs) in hospitals. Adherence to hand hygiene compliance by the workers in the food business is very important for preventing food-borne illness. In addition to healthcare settings and food businesses, hand washing is also vital for personal well-being. Despite the importance of hand hygiene, people often do not wash hands when necessary. Automatic detection of hand washing activity can facilitate just-in-time alerts when a person forgets to wash hands. Monitoring hand washing practices is also essential in ensuring accountability and providing personalized feedback, particularly in hospitals and food businesses. Inertial sensors available in smart wrist devices can capture hand movements, and so it is feasible to detect hand washing using these devices. However, it is challenging to detect hand washing using wrist wearable sensors since hand movements are associated with a wide range of activities. In this paper, we present HAWAD, a robust solution for hand washing detection using wrist wearable inertial sensors. We leverage the distribution of penultimate layer output of a neural network to detect hand washing from a wide range of activities. Our method reduces false positives by 77% and improves F1-score by 30% compared to the baseline method.

Authors of the article draw their attention to the study of methodological decomposition and parallelization applied for the tasks of synthesis and operation of complex physical and chemical systems in order to develop a horizontally scalable distributed information system. This system relies on algorithms rooted in a unified approach to the description and modelling of variable physical and chemical processes in the systems under investigation. Then the results of process modelling are applied to synthesize this system model. This model in its turn is used for the tasks of synthesis and operation of studied complex systems. In terms of user interface, the information system of this kind is expandable over various practical domains associated with complex physical and chemical systems (power engineering, chemical technology, cellular biology, meteorology, etc.).

Today, the creation of intelligent sensors became possible due to the development of the hardware base, the use of small boards, where the processor, memory, and network interfaces can be placed. Examples of such cards can be Raspberry Pi, Arduino, and others. These devices can be used to connect various sensors to them depending on the tasks. Today, there are many protocols for the exchange of messages between such sender devices, which ultimately leads to the creation of distributed networks with distributed functionality. Such systems can be decision-making and are like swarm intelligence, where each device performs its functions, but together they are a single system. This study will examine the information security issues of such systems. An analysis of threats and vulnerabilities for intelligent sensor systems was carried out. Demonstrated an attack on the secure ZigBee protocol, which is often used to create a network between smart sensors. The use of lightweight cryptography to minimize risks is proposed.

Many mobile agent systems rely on a population of software agents roaming a network of nodes (visitation sites) performing various tasks, such as monitoring security or measuring connectivity. For these systems, the number of agents in the population is critical for maintaining desired visitation rates throughout the network;however, the population distribution may change dramatically in reaction to an event, such as issues within the network or adversarial activity. As a result, population management is needed to ensure the number of agents in a system is available to achieve the system objectives. Although centralized management can be used to maintain agent populations, these approaches are not resilient to failure or scalable to large systems. This paper introduces a novel approach for managing the population of agents by governing the death and birth of agents through the distributed examination of the expected visitation rates. Nodes in the network individually monitor local visitation rates to determine if new agents should be created or destroyed, while queue management is used to distribute agents and dampen population oscillation (cyclical death and rebirth of all agents). Since these two population management components are available at every node, the agent population is maintained in a decentralized fashion. Experimental results demonstrate the proposed population management approach can appropriately manage an agent population under various conditions including sudden agent loss and attack situations.

Now a days, automation plays a vital role in industries and can be obtained with a low cost, reduced time, high quality, reliability, safety for the employee. Although automotive industry is one of the world's most dynamic and competitive industries;but being under continuous pressure to improve performance in a highly competitive, cost sensitive environment. In the wake of guiding principles like lean production, Overall Equipment Efficiency (OEE) and World Class Performance (WCP), condition monitoring has become a key factor and Special Purpose Machine (SPM) has been dealing with main manufacturers in Europe and Asia for many years. This paper proposes the design of special purpose machine to execute the operation of sensor hole punching and bracket pasting. This method replaces manual method which consumes a lot of time and punches only 60 parts per day. The proposed method is cost efficient, saves a lot of valuable time and contributes to punch 200 parts per day. The detailed designing and development of Special Purpose Machine sensor hole punching and bracket pasting considering Mechanical, Pneumatic & Electrical aspects and PLC are the special contributions of this paper. © 2021 ieee.

Due to increasing urbanization, the competition for cities’ finite resources is intensifying. To maintain a high quality of life for citizens, more efficient use of these resources can be targeted. One way to achieve this goal is to use sensor networks that collect real-time information about the conditions in a city and improve citizens’ understanding of their environment. Nevertheless, many existing sensor networks make their data available only locally, are not interconnected, and target companies and experts instead of average citizens. Many citizens already operate sensors on several devices but cannot share their sensor data with other citizens in a secure manner. Therefore, we describe building blocks to construct a fully distributed city-wide marketplace for urban sensor data. By this, citizens can be offered a secure possibility to share their data by keeping their data sovereignty. © 2021, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Partial discharge is a common harmful phenomenon in industry, it is necessary to establish a distributed low-cost online monitoring system. In this essay, we use ACP theory of parallel systems [1] to design the measurement conversion circuit for the ultrasonic sensor, moreover, the experimental verification is carried out in the actual system. Finally, the algorithm is designed on the PC to extract the characteristic parameters effectively, which has obtained good results.

A huge amount of IoT-sensor data may threaten a capacity limitation of cloud computing in near future. To mitigate computation burden of cloud computing due to the massive amount of sensed data, a memristor crossbar for Hierarchical Temporal Memory (HTM) spatial-pooling can be considered for energy-efficient near-IoT-sensor computing. By doing so, the amount of data sent to the cloud server can be reduced significantly from 784 gray pixels to 400 Sparse distributed Representation (SDR) bits or 256 SDR bits for processing MNIst hand-written digits. The loss of recognition rate is as little as 2.48% and 1.93% for the 256-column and 400-column memristor crossbars of spatial-pooling, respectively. In addition, we have tested and verified the defect-resilience scheme of spatial-pooling memristor crossbar in this paper, because memristor crossbars near IoT sensor are vulnerable to memristor defects such as stuck-at-faults, resistance variations, etc.

Modern systems are increasingly required to be adaptable in order to handle constantly changing environments. Adaptability is often based on the ability to adapt the behaviour of a running system where multiple implementations are available. Example of this are technologies such as reflective middleware and meta-models which offer control over how logic is wired together. While these technologies support high degrees of autonomous flexibility around the compute element of distributed systems, they completely neglect handling state in an externally-managed, automated way. This paper advocates a reflective model over system state, to complement existing models that enable meta-management of behaviour. This concept has the potential to support an entirely new dimension of self-adaptive systems, offering a richer set of options to compose a system. We demonstrate a possible implementation of this concept by extending a lightweight component-based model;our implementation can transparently and generically relocate, replicate, and shard stateful components. Using a set of annotations, our framework constructs a pool of possible compositions which distribute any system using a variety of different state management options. We posit that this offers an unexplored dimension of self-adaptive systems, supporting novel concepts such as self-distributing systems which can emerge to best match their environment.
