Textile Multitouch Force-sensor Array Based on Circular and Non-Circular Polymer Optical Fibers

A 3 x 3 textile integrated force-sensor array is presented that is based on the cross coupling of optical fibers and provides multi-touch capability. The force sensing relies on cross coupling between two fibers that are aligned orthogonally to each other. The actual coupling is improved by an increased contact area and higher scattering at the fiber crossing. A systematic analysis of different parameters is done for the driving and the sensing fiber, which involves materials, size, fabrication parameters as well as the cross-section shape. The results reveal that the combination of a rather stiff driving fiber and a flexible sensing fiber from elastomer (TPU) lead to the highest sensitivities in the range of 45.5 pW/N. The application of non-circular cross sections can improve the coupling efficiency by directing the side-emitted light better towards the sensing fiber. A trilobal-shaped driving fiber lead to an increase of 5 dBs, whereas the shaping of the sensing fiber improved the efficiency by another 7.5 dB.

Monitoring air quality is quintessential for maintaining sound human health. In our work, a p-p heterojunction device based on FexNi(1-x)O/NiO was fabricated via mild solvent based approach. The device was subjected to calculated concentrations of VOC vapors (viz. 2-propanol, toluene and formaldehyde) at varying operating temperatures between 150 degrees C and 350 degrees C. It was seen that the sensor could be made selective towards the different VOCs (e.g. 2-propanol at 200 degrees C, toluene at 250 degrees C and formaldehyde at 300 degrees C) by tuning the operating temperature. The sensor response was maximum for formaldehyde (2.1 with 76 ppm) and was found to be reasonably fast (response time 58 sec and recovery time 46 sec). The theoretical LOD was obtained as 0.77 ppm for 2-propanol, 0.83 ppm for toluene and 0.78 ppm for formaldehyde. Thus, it was possible for selectively sense different VOCs by a single sensor device by varying its operating temperature which may introduce a smart sensing solution with high market feasibility in the future.

Big data analytics is having a profound impact on many sectors of the economy by transforming raw data into actionable intelligence. However, increased use of sensitive business and private personal data with no or limited privacy safeguards has raised great concerns among individuals and government regulators. To address the growing tension between the need for data utility and the demand for data privacy, trusted execution environment (TEE) is being used in academic research as well as industrial application as a powerful primitive to enable confidential computation on the private data with only the result disclosed but not the original private data. While much of the current research has been focusing on protecting the TEE against attacks (e.g. side-channel information leakage), the security and privacy of the applications executing inside a TEE enclave has received little attention. The general attitude is that the application is running inside a trusted computing base (TCB), and therefore can be trusted. This assumption may not be valid when it comes to unverified third-party applications. In this paper, we present PrivacyScope, a static code analyzer designed to detect leakage of private data by an application code running in a TEE. PrivacyScope accomplishes this by analyzing the application code and identifying violations of a property called nonreversibility. We introduce nonreversibility since the classical noninterference property falls short of detecting private data leakage in certain scenarios, e.g., in machine learning (ML) programs where the program output is always related to (private) input data. Given its strict reliance on observable state, the non-interference falls short of detecting private data leakage in these situations. By design, PrivacyScope detects both explicit and implicit information leakage. The nonreversibility property is formally defined based on the noninterference property. Cropping systems concerns are increasing significantly in semi-arid and arid areas. In order to maximize the productivity while saving water, the barrier of site-specific irrigation management can be solved. This is done by using in-field distributed sensor-based irrigation system. The main aim of this paper is to highlight the details and instrumentation of various controls. They are variable rate irrigation, wireless sensor network. For monitoring the real-time in-field sensing and control of a site-specific precision linear-move irrigation system a software is used. According to the soil property map, six in-field sensor stations are used to monitor the field conditions. The report of thesemonitoring data is periodically sampled and transmitted to base station. Geo-referenced location of sprinklers is updated timely with the help of logic programmable controllers [1]. ZigBee communication enables the interfacing of communication signals from sensor network and irrigation controller to the base station. stable remote access to field conditions and monitoring and real-time control of variable rate irrigation controller is achieved. A graphic user interface-based software is used for this.

In this paper, two blockchain-based consensus mechanisms are proposed for distributed control systems, those are the proof-of-work-based (PoW-based) and proof-of-stake-based (PoS-based) consensus mechanisms. The basic idea and process of these blockchain-based consensus mechanisms are introduced, giving rise to the dynamic, impartial and efficient consensus compared with the consensus protocol achieved by traditional control theories.

The neutral current compensation is identified as a one of the major power quality issues in three phase four wire distributed power generation system working in off-grid mode. The three phase transformer connections are used for compensating the neutral current of the unbalanced load and therefore, the source side is free from the neutral current flow. There are plenty of transformer connections available in the literature for solving the same. In this paper, authors have taken four transformer connections such as star delta, star double delta, zigzag double delta and fork connections for solving the said problem. The entire setup is developed in the laboratory and the study of dynamics state as well as steady state has been carried out. Finally, comparative statement is provided for the best suitable star delta connection in the adopted system. © 2020 ieee.

distributed generation (DG) and shunt capacitors are widely adopted for minimizing power loss in distributed networks. But the high cost of DG units puts a limitation on employing higher rating DGs in distribution networks. So, it is desired that less DG size gives maximum loss reduction for achieving the objective of minimum overall cost of the system. The prominent goal of this paper is to curb the total expenditure occurring due to annual energy loss and cost incurred in installing DG units and capacitor banks. An unsullied methodical approach has been presented in this paper to find out optimal position and rating of DG as well as capacitor units so that the overall cost would be minimal. The method is tested on standard ieee 69 bus distribution system and 130 bus Indian distribution systems. The outcomes of both the test systems are optimistic and found to be promising when compared with the previous ones.

This paper proposes a new multiagent system algorithm to increase the security and protection of power systems. The multi-agent system (MAS) proposed for fault location, distance estimation, and automatic power restoration in a distribution system with renewable distributed Generation (DG). The smart agents proposed consisting of many nodes (agents) to collect the real-time data and power flow between different physical processes from power networks, for fault location and power system control. To test the multi-agent system proposed we used a part of Kenitra city distribution system in Morocco with the integration of wind power. The simulation present that the proposed approach for fault location and power restoration significantly improves the reliability of power systems. © 2020 ieee.

In this study, energy demand growth with environment issues is considered towards the environment-friendly planning of smart distribution network. Therefore, distributed Energy Resource (DERs) can be located to supply the required system energy demand. This paper presents Jaya algorithms that can deal with the placement of DERs with most effectively in radial distribution networks. This algorithm is a powerful optimization method which can be easily handled in the single-phase without any algorithms-specific control parameter. The strength of the proposed strategy is validated on two distribution networks as ieee 33-bus and 69-bus test systems. The results are compared with already established methods as suggested in the literature. The result would be proved that the proposed approach is a robust approach that enhances the network performance by diminishing the demand for the distribution load within the constraints of the system.
