In this paper, we present a carbon-based formulation that is suitable for stencil printing on textiles to fabricate stretch and flex sensors for the detection of human joint movement. This novel carbon-based formulation demonstrates (1) highly stretchable and high change in resistance, which can be used as the stretch and flex sensor for strain measurement; (2) good wettability, which enables it to be combined with other printable functional pastes used in printed electronics.

In this paper, we propose a novel differential temperature sensor (DTS) device fabricated through inkjet material printer. The proposed sensor is consisted of two back-to-back printed meander patterns connected in series with capability to measure the temperature of flexible or curved surfaces with minimum error as compare to the simple resistor temperature detector (RTD). Moreover, the sensor can measure a bending curvature of a body. In the differential mode, if the sensor is bent on either sides, one meander pattern experience tension (increase resistance), while the opposite side experiences compression (decrease resistance). In result, the overall resistance of the device remains the same and only temperature changes the value of resistance. The proposed sensor is ideal for measuring temperature of flexible substrates.

A reliable log system is a prerequisite for security applications. One of the first actions a hacker takes upon penetrating a system is altering the log files. Maintaining redundant copies in a distributed manner in a Byzantine setting has always been a challenging task, however it has recently become simpler given recent advances in blockchain technologies. In this work, we present a tamper-resistant log system through the use of a blockchain. We leverage the immutable write action and distributed storage provided by the blockchain and add an additional encryption layer to develop a secure log system. We assess the security and privacy aspects of our solution. Finally, we implement our system over Hyperledger Fabric and demonstrate the system's value for several use cases.

Textiles and flexible textile surfaces can be found in many industrial goods. Due to trends like smart textiles and consumer electronics touchpads and flexible touch-sensitive sensor arrays that can be integrated in these textile surfaces are increasingly in demand. A multi-touch capable textile touchpad based on polymer optical fibers (POF) is presented. For the sensing fibers, different fiber cross sections – from circular to trilobal – are studied for maximum sensitivity and minimum cross talk. Results show that the trilobal cross section improves the sensitivity and the strength of the sensor signal by about 50%.

Security is one of the most key concern of people in current world. Advanced surveillance systems are now being used widely for detecting suspicious act in real time. But it also comprises the shortcomings of having a huge memory along with smart encryption system. To alienate these computationally heavy workflows, a smart intruder alert system has been developed which senses motion in real time. Motion detection is attained with a new approach which incorporates PIR sensors with ARM cortexA53 microprocessor. The sensor is used more effectively with GSM modem through efficient communication between them with the help of both coding and required customization. SMS and calls are initiated from GSM based on the data obtained from sensor. The method used in this research provides computationally faster processing and detection comparing with the other systems which is explained in detail in this paper.

Wireless sensor Networks have a great impact in day to day life of a human being because of its self-learning and processing capability. Every system is changing to autonomous due to the introduction of such networks. Real time monitoring of agricultural system, hospital system, healthcare, vehicular system etc. become very easy and could reduce the interference of human beings to such systems due to the evolution of Wireless sensor Networks. Nodes in these networks have limited power to operate and we need to reduce the power consumption and maximize the lifetime. Formation of clusters in such networks can help each node to operate and communicate in an energy efficient manner. There are several clustering techniques are available in such networks, according to the applications.

we live in a world which is rapidly moving toward smart systems to make every aspect of living easy and versatile. Smart farming systems are being adapted by farmers throughout the globe. This paper is going to venture through smart arable farming system for the farmers of Bangladesh with the concept of internet of things (IoT). The paper proposes a smart sensor system supported by actuators to automate farming and provide precision farming experience. The system helps person with inferior knowledge of technology to understand and maintain the system with a new device namely Smart Board. The board helps to monitor status of the farm and to send action command to farm machineries. This work also helps the practice of e-governance by setting a simple but effective data exchange between government and farmers. Farmers will get benefitted as the smart board will keep them up to date on governments agriculture related announcements. It is a systematic mixture of many technologies including a smart sensor network system.

A novel capacitive pressure sensor based on micro-structured polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) was fabricated for low pressure applications. The pressure sensor was developed using PDMS and silver (Ag) as the dielectric and electrode layers, respectively, on flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate. A set of PDMS films with pyramid shaped micro-structures were fabricated using a laser engraved acrylic mold. The electrodes (top and bottom) were fabricated by depositing Ag on PET films using additive screen-printing process. The pressure sensor was assembled by attaching the top and bottom Ag electrodes to the smooth side of the pyramid shaped micro-structured PDMS (PM-PDMS) films. The top PM-PDMS was then placed on the bottom PM-PDMS. The capability of the fabricated pressure sensor was investigated by subjecting the sensor to pressures ranging from 75-170 Pa. A sensitivity of 0.22%Pa\n-1\n and correlation coefficient of 0.9722 was calculated for the sensor.

Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) are becoming increasingly indispensable for real-time systems. Active diagnosis systems, therefore, are endeavoring to increase the reliability of real-time systems by computing at run-time the diagnostic information within FDIR systems, to actively decide on recovery actions. For embedded systems that contain various components, especially those including sensors and actuators, it is essential to provide a platform in which these components are able to communicate and also serve for an active diagnosis system. This paper proposes the ADIstES ontology (Active Diagnosis based on Semantic Web Technologies for distributed Embedded Real-Time systems) for an active diagnosis system of sensors and actuators. The proposed ADIstES ontology is a general ontology that can be used by different cases and systems to integrate their sensors and actuators;it can be instantiated from heterogeneous sources. As a characteristic of ontologies, they provide information in a machine interpretable format. Hence, the ADIstES ontology can also play a role for different sensors and actuators to share and communicate their status with one another.

This paper presents a fully printed strain sensor consisting of carbon ink [1] coating layer and interdigitated shape silver (Ag) ink electrodes solidified on a polyimide (PI) substrate. The carbon ink provides an output of an increase in resistance when the substrate is bent because the occurred cracks break electrical conducting pathways in the solidified ink layer [2] . Improving on the works with only single carbon ink layer [2] , an addition of the Ag ink electrodes brings extra resistance increase due to the occurrence of metallic cracks. A 1.5 × 1.5 cm size strain sensor is fabricated to verify the performance of our proposed topology. The results show that the maximum resistance change ratio of the sensor with interdigitated electrodes reaches 7.9%, which is ~12.5% higher than that using carbon ink alone. Because of the low-cost fabrication and the improved sensing capability, our proposed strain sensor can be further optimized for wearable electronics and structure health monitoring applications.
