With the introduction of powerful yet light weight onboard computers, the size of unmanned aerial vehicles can be reduced to a great extent and thus making them suitable for indoor missions. The challenge with indoor navigation is primarily the lack of GPS data. Localization and mapping algorithms therefore use sensors such as LiDAR and stereo Cameras. These sensors are usually better placed at the front of vehicles to prevent field of view blockage. In this manuscript, a H-shape unmanned aerial vehicle is designed to offer a 180 degrees clearance to a LiDAR sensor placed at the front to achieve an effective scanning field. The dynamics of the vehicle is then identified, and a robust flight controller is applied to the system. Flight test results have shown that the designed system is stable, and robust towards air flow disturbances within a closed indoor environment.

A new device on a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate is proposed for light-addressable potentiometric sensor (LAPS). A Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide (IGZO) film is sputtered on the Indium Tin oxide (ITO)/PET substrate as the photosensitive semiconductor layer. A high-dielectric constant layer of NbOx is sputtered on IGZO as the sensing membrane. Photocurrent versus bias voltage curve is illustrated successfully with the ultra-violet (UV) LED illmination with ac signal modulaiton. pH sensitivity, linearity, drift and hysteresis is 68 mV/pH, 99%, 1.8 mV/h and 1.1 mV of this fabricatd device, respectively. The highest operation frequency is 30 kHz, which make it as a highly potential candidate for 2D chemical image sensor, especially first demostrated in a PET susbtrate.

Flexible tactile sensors can be described as an effective way to recognize the sense of touch. These sensors have great potential to be implemented to electronic skins, soft electronics, and related applications. Since the cost of flexible sensors in the market is quite high and their robustness is questionable, the use of flexible sensors has not yet reached the desired level in the electronics industry. This study introduces novel techniques for the design and production of low cost and high precision capacitive sensor arrays. The dielectric/conductive layers were formed by spin-coating the polymer-based material on the conductive material. Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and nanoparticle doped PDMS were used to form the dielectric layer. In particular, capacitive properties using Platinum and Carbon doped PDMS can be used for modification of dielectric properties for specific applications. In this work, the fabrication of highly sensitive tactile sensor array has been successfully performed to be utilized in electronic skin applications. A 4x4 sensor array was designed for the prototype and electrical tests demonstrated promising sensing capability of sensors formed by metal/PDMS/metal layers.

Circular economy focussing on the reuse and recycling of materials is gaining significant interest these days as the concern for environment sustainability is increasing [1] – [3] . In this regard, printed electronics or green electronics is being promoted as alternative to conventional electronics, which requires several hazardous and toxic materials. However, there is lot to be done to align this emerging field with the requirements of circular economy [4] , [5] and one way is to identify the waste materials and transfer them into a valuable products [6] . In this regard, integration of electronics in textiles is one of the attractive directions [7] and recently flexible devices like solar cells, sensors and electronics have been successfully integrated into textiles [8] – [12] . Here we present, a temperature sensor fabricated on biodegradable cellulose cloth. The fabricated cloth based temperature sensors shows a sensitivity of 30°C/Ω in the temperature range of 25-60°C.

Advancements in harnessing energy from renewable energy sources and deregulated power market scenario has made distribution generation (DG) to emerge as a key player in modern power system. strategic placement of DG in power system network can increase the efficiency, reliability and security by reducing system loss, improving voltage profile. This paper intends to find optimal bus using voltage sensitivity index for DG placement and a novel method is attempted for optimal DG size and type. The proposed method is demonstrated on a standard ieee-14 bus system and the simulation results obtained are discussed briefly.

Time Synchronization is an essential communication component for Industrial Wireless sensor Networks (IWSNs). An IWSN is composed of multiple distributed resource-constrained sensor nodes, which require their local clocks to be synchronized with each other to exchange packets in a precisely real time ordered schedule. Time synchronization protocols are not outlined with security support. As a consequence, a new generation of attacks arose, explicitly targeting the corresponding protocols. Recent research studies [1, 2, 3] prove that synchronization attacks are severe and practical. Without detection mechanisms, synchronization attacks bypass security defenses. A methodology for the detection of synchronization attacks based on characteristics of the synchronization protocol is proposed in this paper. Thus, we propose a novel method based on machine learning algorithms for detecting IIoT synchronization attacks. Applying such strategies for cyber-security in IIoT requires the availability of substantial synchronization IIoT attack data. In our research, the real-life equivalent simulations using the open source OpenWSN simulator has been utilized for generation of high fidelity attack area, within the 6TiSCH industrial network. We believe that the IIoT attack dataset generated in this work can be used for further research and for detecting high layer attacks too. Experimentation was carried out using six learning algorithms to detect the attack and classify them from legitimate behavior.

This paper addresses the problem of frequency stability of power systems highly penetrated by distributed energy resources interfaced through power electronics inverters. The integration of asynchronously connected generation to the grid results in an overall system inertia reduction, which as a consequence, deteriorates the system frequency response by increasing the system's sensitivity to sudden changes in generation-load balance as is recorded by the RoCoF and frequency nadir characteristics. This study proposes a novel design of a Synthetic Inertia control scheme equipped on the wind turbine generators (WTGs) that dynamically alters the inertial response provision of the WTGs to the system, assisting this way into a fast system frequency stability recovery. The feasibility of the proposed control scheme is validated on the ieee 68 bus power system model accommodating solar and wind generation installations. All simulation studies were performed within the DIgSILENT PowerFactory 2018 simulation environment.
