This paper reports the integration of temperature sensing filaments within a fabric structure using an industrial textile weaving process. The filament is inserted into bespoke pockets woven within the body of the fabric which conceals the electronic functionality from the user and does not compromise the physical properties of the fabric. The thermistor on the filament is protected with a flexible encapsulation consisting of one or a combination of a hot melt thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), two polyimide films (PI) and blends of polyester/cotton fabrics of varied thicknesses. In e-textiles, encapsulations enhance the durability and life-time of the integrated electronics but can also limit the sensitivity of an enclosed sensor to its measurand. The effect of these encapsulations on the thermal sensitivity of the thermistor was investigated. Experimental results show that temperature measurements of the encapsulated sensors enclosed with the fabrics are accurate to 80 % confidence interval of the un-encapsulated sensor measurement between 30 °C and 65 °C. Temperature measurements are useful in the monitoring of foot ulcer and wound infections of diabetic patients [1] , changes in skin or ambient temperatures [2] and cardiovascular health evaluations [3] for health applications. In designing e-textile garments for such applications where users desire the sensors to be completely enclosed within the fabric, the results shows that reducing the fabric and encapsulation thicknesses around the temperature sensor can improve the cooling time of the sensor by 40%.

Dopamine (DA) is one of the most important neurotransmitters that influences the processes that involve memory, sleep, mood, learning among others [1] . In fact, in the last years, dopamine concentration in human body fluids has been related to some neurodegenerative diseases, such as Parkinson and Alzheimer’s diseases [2] . The possibility to have a bio-marker for these disease is of extreme importance because, disease related with dementia, are diagnosed when they are already developed and their management become almost impossible. The possibility to continuously monitor DA level in fluids, such as blood and urine, could accelerate the early diagnosis of these diseases. The principal analytical method to detected dopamine is High Pressure Liquid Chromatrography (HPLC), but this technique does not allow any kind of real time or in situ analysis and, furthermore, is highly expensive and hard to use [3] - [4] . To achieve a real-time screening of DA, electrochemical sensors are perfect candidates [5] .

In precision agriculture (PA), fusing low-resolution remote sensing (RS) information with proximal sensors provided by wireless sensor networks (WSN) can help increase productivity, reduce cost, and optimize resources. However, sensor cost and their range emerge as a major bottleneck in proximal sensing. Moreover, the range is affected by weather and farming operations outages. Consequently, optimal sensor placement to reduce cost considering range constraints and having ability to fuse high-level low-resolution RS information has emerged as one of the key problems in WSNs for PA applications. Typically, optimal sensor placement is a combinatorial problem which is computationally intensive (NP-hard) and range constraints add another complex dimension to the problem. This paper proposes sensor Placement Algorithm with range constraints (SPARC), which optimally places sensors considering their range. Furthermore, it has ability to fuse low-resolution RS information with proximal sensing of the sensors. We first show that the problem is computationally intensive and complex due to its combinatorial nature. Next, we propose a two-step approach wherein the optimal sensor placement problem is solved in the first step by using the optimization models. In the second step, the sensor locations are adjusted to address the range constraints such that the error covariance is reduced. Novelty of SPARC is the inclusion of range constraints, fusing the proximal measurements with low-resolution high-level data, and the solution technique that organizes the problems into two steps. As a result, sensor cost, physical constraints of farming practices, and maintenance cost can be reduced drastically without compromising on the monitoring capability. We also present prototype of the sensor node and illustrate the SPARC on a precision farming test-bed developed by the authors.

Wireless sensor Network (WSN) is a discrete event system which include a different devices of the network like sensor nodes, calculating, power consumed, and communication units to monitor specific phenomenon such as environmental information. Emerging operation for the wireless sensor networks applications are consist of resources and warehouse management, building automation, civil infrastructure monitoring, healthcare, and security. Modeling and simulation are a good tools test and examine the working and to specify the effective techniques that proposed for WSNs. Analytical modeling delivers quick vision for the techniques developed for WSNs but it is unsuccessful to give real calculations because (WSN) are very limited energy and have a variable number of sensor nodes as the network requirements. This paper aimed to study the behavior of a mobile device using zigbee protocol entire a limited of different personal area network (PAN), each one have different devices and distances. The configuration of this paper contains three PANs, (1, 2, and 3). This network includes a mobile node, originally located at PAN 1. The three PANs have a transmitted power organized to be (2 mW), to ensure that the covering areas do not interference with another one. The results shows that mobile node connected to (PAN 1) through the first (3.6 minutes) of the simulation period. After that the node disconnected from the PAN 1, then quickly links to PAN 2. After (10.6 minutes), the node leave PAN 2 and promptly connects to (PAN 3). The graphs that get from this research proves that the dropped data at its minimum value for the most simulation time, except some spikes around (4, 11 and 14) minutes. This scenario are modeled and simulated using (OPNET) software. © 2019 ieee.

Wireless wearable applications which allow for remote biomedical data gathering, analysis and visualisation present a significant opportunity to improve patient care [10] . However, the design and manufacture of wearable systems does present a challenge as relates to their flexibility [11] and ensuring their safe operation [12] – [13] . In this work our goal was to examine the behaviour of a traditional Planar Inverted-F Antenna (PIFA) structure across the frequency band of 700MHz - 4GHz. The specific scenario was a wireless wearables application where nylon was used as a flexible substrate and the antenna was placed directly against the underlying tissue. The RF characteristics were considered for the structure under the action of applied forces which produced multiplanar deformations that correspond to the natural modalities of the antenna and underlying tissue. A shift in the characteristics of the antenna structure was noted due to the change in substrate and effects of the underlying tissue, which was not unexpected [13] . However our specific interest was in understanding how the physical changes to the antenna geometry and surrounding tissue resulted in changes to the RF behaviour. It was observed that the electric field energy varied based on the zone of application of the applied force to the antenna surface. Furthermore, there was greater concentration of the electric field energy into the underlying tissue at higher frequencies.

With the surge in global data consumption with proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT), remote monitoring and control is increasingly becoming popular with a wide range of applications from emergency response in remote regions to monitoring of environmental parameters. Mesh networks are being employed to alleviate a number of issues associated with single-hop communication such as low area coverage, reliability, range and high energy consumption. Low-power Wireless Personal Area Networks (LoWPANs) are being used to help realize and permeate the applicability of IoT. In this paper, we present the design and test of ieee 802.15.4-compliant smart IoT nodes with multi-hop routing. We first discuss the features of the software stack and design choices in hardware that resulted in high RF output power and then present field test results of different baseline network topologies in both rural and urban settings to demonstrate the deployability and scalability of our solution.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is not one single entity, but a collection of different devices, communication technologies, protocols and services. IoT systems can span a large number of individually managed networks that are interconnected through the Internet and host the different components of an IoT application, such as sensor devices, storage servers and data processing services. Protecting such a complex multiparty system from abuse becomes a very challenging task. New difficulties arise everyday when policies are updated or new collaborations and federations appear between entities. Moreover, hacked IoT devices can also become the source of powerful attacks, as the Mirai malware has demonstrated, and therefore a danger for the other involved parties. In this paper, we propose an approach to improve the management and protection of collaborating IoT systems using distributed intrusion detection and permission-based access control. Our approach is based on interconnected middleboxes that monitor the communication between the various IoT networks and are able to stop incoming as well as outgoing attacks. We evaluate our approach through experiments with different types of attacks.

Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET) is a form of wireless network that does not need a centralized system to communicate with nodes. MANET"s nodes are self-organized and designed where each mobile node can be a sender, forwarder or receiver. However, the dynamic topology and mobility of nodes make the routing of data between nodes a challenge. Through the last two decades, the researchers developed many routing protocols that have various characteristics. Because of their popularity among MANET protocols, this paper evaluates OLSR and AODV routing protocols in wide range of scenarios over NS2, this under various number of nodes, various node speed, and various data rate. After the results obtained from the simulation are analyzed, OLSR gives better performance in term of average end to end delay which make it suitable for delay sensitive applications. On the other hand, AODV outperforms in terms of throughput and packet delivery ratio which is suitable for throughput-based applications. © 2019 ieee.

Blockchain technologies are expected to make a significant impact on a variety of industries. However, one issue holding them back is their limited transaction throughput, especially compared to established solutions such as distributed database systems. In this paper, we re-architect a modern permissioned blockchain system, Hyperledger Fabric, to increase transaction throughput from 3,000 to 20,000 transactions per second. We focus on performance bottlenecks beyond the consensus mechanism, and we propose architectural changes that reduce computation and I/O overhead during transaction ordering and validation to greatly improve throughput. Notably, our optimizations are fully plug-and-play and do not require any interface changes to Hyperledger Fabric.

Feedback-based optimization algorithms use real-time measurements to update the optimal control for the underlying system which may not be fully identified. Recently, we have developed a distributed feedback-based algorithm [1] that avoids the requirement of fast communication between central computing and local actuator/sensor agents. This paper extends the work by greatly reducing the number of copies of variables involved in the distributed feedback-based algorithm, which results in faster convergence and lower communication requirement. The main idea is to leverage the specific structural properties of the admittance matrix for distribution systems with tree network topology. We also show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in simulations.
