Skeletal muscle is considered as a near-constant volume system and the contractions of muscle are linked to the changes in tissue thickness. Assessment of muscle contractile properties provides valuable information for various medical applications. The Ultrasound method provides a high spatial and temporal resolution measurement of the architectural changes of skeletal muscle during contractions. However, one of the challenges in ultrasound methods is motion artifacts due to the weight, size, and attachment instability of the conventional ultrasonic probe employed. A flexible, lightweight, thin, and small size ultrasonic sensor would provide a secure attachment to the skin surface without affecting the muscle contractions dynamics. Thus, in this study, a wearable ultrasonic sensor (WUS) made of a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film was employed to measure skeletal muscle contractile properties as a quantitative assessment tool. The isometric contractions of gastrocnemius (GC) muscles at a lower leg were electrically stimulated. The tissue thickness changes were measured by means of an ultrasound time-of-flight method in the through-transmission mode. Maximum contraction thickness, contraction time, contraction velocity, sustain time, and half-relaxation time were successfully extracted from the monitored thickness changes. The results demonstrated the potential of the developed WUS in measuring skeletal muscle contractile parameters.

Underwater communication robots are used in various employment such as underwater environment tracking, underpinning surveillance, military and ocean observation. There are three feasible means of underwater wireless communication technologies essentially electromagnetic (EM), optical communication and acoustic communication systems. But the underwater acoustic communication savors the advantages of being simple and powerful in water. This paper presents to design and performance of FPGA based underwater communication robot with simplest architecture for underpinning surveillance and toxic metal avoidance. The proposed communication robot is tested in underwater environment to validate robustness and reliability. The prototype of underwater communication robot can be achieving 10m range of communication in aquatic environment. A Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) established peculiar implementation is developed to detect the presence of toxic metals and other metallic pollutants present in the ocean using MI sensor for saving the life span of aquatic animals. The detected information from the Ultrasonic transmitter is send to the Ultrasonic receiver for the analysis. Once the presence of metal is detected by the MI sensor, metal remover of the robot unit collects the toxic pollutants and the same is unloaded at the base station.

Flexible sensors have been developed over the decades due to their potential in various applications. However, recent developments in interactive user interface, healthcare device, tactile sensor, and artificial electronic skin require device with multifunctional properties such as various detection ability and good mobility. Research on such devices are still under developing. In this report, we demonstrate a flexible multimodal (pressure, temperature) sensor using embedded indium tin oxide (ITO). For the pressure sensor, the embedded ITO was adopted as a conductive layer with triple layer pyramid structure. We utilized water-soluble sacrificial layers for eco-friendly method. The triple layer pyramid-structured pressure sensor shows excellent sensitivity in dynamic range of 100 Pa to 10 kPa with high reliability of 10(5) cycles. For the temperature sensor, we used comb like structure with ITO. It shows negative temperature coefficient on resistance with good linearity. Due to the vertically stacked structure, we were able to ignore interface effect. This work present that the opportunity of transparent electrode towards flexible multimodal sensors that can be employed for various flexible applications.

With advances in embedded sensor hardware and the resulting deluge of measurement data, it has become increasingly clear that corresponding advances in data management are necessary at every level of the data pipeline to keep pace with the copious output of sensors at the edge. Filtering and processing data in-flight from edge to core presents an attractive possibility. By using resources within the network fabric itself, data can be reduced to a manageable level before reaching the core. Such drastic changes in data processing methodology do present new challenges and exacerbate old ones. Manual configuration and optimization at the fog scale is error prone. This paper discusses the Flange DSL and our in-flight processing framework InLocus, as a solution for driving fog configuration and management with declarative network topology assertions. By distributing configurable processing agents within the network fabric and modeling the network as a graph, the Flange compiler is capable of resolving terse, general flow assertions into network configurations at the device level. By chaining many such network functions together, the network topology can be transformed into a single virtual computation unit. Unlike previous approaches, the processing overlay topology is compiled automatically from the requirements of the task and the state of the underlying network. Each hop in the network provides an opportunity to operate on the data as it passes through, resulting in transformed data at the destination. The Flange language provides a propositional-logic based structure for selecting network components and asserting desired properties onto them. By using flow predicates, a program may define arbitrarily long chains of operations which are compiled into instructions to network agents that enact real behaviors on the network. The Flange compiler itself performs on moderately sized network graphs;compiling optimal placement schemes in under half a minute for graphs below 2,

The purpose of this paper consists in development of hardware, ensuring artificial tactile sensing of an anthropomorphic robot. Through analysis, performed to that end, it was discovered, that the majority of capacitive sensors, installed as well on the grippers of the anthropomorphic robots, as on robots of other types are implemented in terms of microelectromechamical systems (MEMS) technology. Obstacle detection and surface type recognition using the solutions, discussed in the related work, requires much closer proximity, than with the capacitive sensor, developed by us. We present a circuit schematics implementation of the sensor and charted graphical dependencies of the output voltage from distance for various objects, tracked by the sensor and made of different materials. We present experiment outcomes, obtained on examples of water and aqueous salt solution. We discovered, that the output voltage when using solid materials has similar values, but the respective values were quite different in the case of water or aqueous salt solution. © 2019 ieee.

state-of-the-art speaker identification (SI) systems have achieved accuracies of 100% with long-duration utterances which are impractical. Recently, short-utterance based systems have gained attention although identification rates are lower. This paper presents an approach for text-dependent speaker phoneme-based (< 1sec) SI with parametric t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (pt-SNE) for dimensionality reduction of features to provide 3D-visualization. The approach employs Gaussian mixture model enhanced by K-means++ and gap statistic methods. As there is no other similar work, a fair comparison is unavailable. The 75% rate achieved is comparable to other works using (i) short-utterances (ii) pt-SNE for recognition of other data types.

With the expansion of data center networks scale and the increase of number of nodes, how to quickly locate failure nodes in the network is necessary in order to avoid network anomalies, so fault diagnosis is significant to measure the reliability of data center network. BCube is proposed as a new server-centric data center network structure, where servers with multiple network ports connect to multiple layers of commodity mini-switches, which makes Bcube have many excellent attributes. In this paper, we studied the t-diagnosability and conditional diagnosability of BCube network structure, and we proved that the t-diagnosability for BCube-k, n under the Preparata, Metze, and Chien's (PMC) model is (n-1)(k+1)-1 for n ≥ 2, k>0. And the conditional diagnosability is larger than ?((n-1)(5k+1)-4)/2? for n ≥ 2, k>0. © 2019 ieee.

Indoor localization using Wi-Fi or pedestrian dead reckoning (PDR) has several limitations in terms of Wi-Fi signal fluctuations and PDR drift errors. To overcome these limitations, we propose a sensor fusion framework for Wi-Fi and PDR systems. The proposed sensor fusion will overcome the PDR drift errors by analysing the Wi-Fi signal strength and the PDR results will compensate the Wi-Fi signal fluctuations. Based on the experiments conducted, results show that the proposed fusion indoor positioning algorithm shows high position accuracy over Wi-Fi localization and PDR systems when used independently. Our proposed combined position estimation algorithm achieves an improved average localization accuracy of 1.6 m when compared to the Wi-Fi and PDR systems when used independently.
