distributed file system (DFS) is a transformation of traditional file systems to perform file read, write and execution of petabyte or larger-sized datasets with high-velocity and different structures. In order to process these large amounts of data in an inexpensive and efficient way, Hadoop distributed File System (HDFS) is used and designed to scale up from a single server to hundreds of servers, with a very high degree of fault tolerance. Secured and optimized distributed file system for ISP user log management is a centralized log analytics platform that supports collaboration in a distributed environment. DFS for ISP log provides a uniform name space for all ISP along with location independence and location transparency. Any user's internet access log can be accessed and analyzed using apache sparks data brick file system on stored log in DFS. In this paper, at first, limitation of popular DFS like NFS and CIFS is explored. ISP log management, DFS file architecture and security is considered for designing proposed ISP log management system. Finally, simulation on proposed distributed file system and query processing is performed to obtain the desired result related to optimization and security of the proposed distributed log analysis system. © 2019 ieee.

A major challenge in networked sensor systems and other IoT environments is addressing security. Vulnerabilities in those systems arise from poor physical security, unauthenticated devices, insecure firmware updates, insecure communication, and data corruption. In recent times distributed Ledger Technologies (DLTs), of which Blockchain is an instance, have been identified as a possible solution to some of these issues. The blokchain model genetically ensures decentralized security and privacy, and therefore could provide IoT systems with a trusted infrastructure for securely logging data or exchanging tokens without the necessity, and costs, of central servers. Blockchain is no panacea, either. IoT devices that get connected to a blockchain network must still be secured, in particular they must protect the confidentiality of the keys. This requires the embedded microcontroller to execute only authenticated firmware, with protections against software attacks, such as buffer overflows, and resistance against side-channel attacks. In addition, as confirmed from the scarcity of implementations reported in the literature, it is still not clear whether blockchain protocols can be implemented efficiently on resource-constrained IoT devices. In this work, also supported by a Demo, we show an example of secure IoT device that enables the functionalities of IOTA, a DLT specifically designed for the use in the IoT. In particular, we present a Light Node based on stM32 that implements all the cryptographic functions, IOTA specific operations and communication functions required to successfully publish transactions in the IOTA distributed ledger. Our implementations on microcontrollers (ARM Cortex-M) performs up to 22 times faster in terms of cycles and up to 4 times faster in absolute time with respect to the state-of-the-art implementation on a Raspberry PI 3B. Blockchain technology has provided a solid system to develop incentivization algorithms using the smart contract. Blockchain applies the distributed ledger to store transaction histories, and the information is stored across a network of computers instead of on a single server. This facilitates the development of a new set of applications such as distributed file storage systems where users can rent out their storage in return for a premium. The distributed file storage systems provide more privacy and security compared to the centralized storage models as there is no need to have a trusted party. New schemes have been developed for distributed file storage systems on top of the blockchain platform, however, the problem of task/service allocation in these models have not been studied before. In this paper, we study the task/service allocation in the distributed file storage systems considering the challenge of computation cost. First, we formalize the problem of task/service allocation in a decentralized storage network, and then we discuss different approaches to allocate storage tasks to storage servers in an efficient manner. Moreover, we study the benefits of the cooperation (a.k.a pooling) in the storage and retrieval markets of distributed storage networks. The evaluation results show the benefit of our proposed pooling based approach in storage and retrieval markets.

Intelligent fault detection by sensor data can ensure the reliability and availability of critical infrastructures. Switches and crossings (S&C) are one of the most important assets of railway networks. They divert trains in different directions by shifting the position of switch rail by point operating equipment (POE). The sensors record the electrical current drawn by the motor in POE. The extraction of features from time-series sensor data enables the detection of faults in POE. This paper proposes a deep learning model to detect faults in railway POE without the need for preprocessing the raw time-series data. It is based on 1-D convolution neural network. The architecture of the proposed deep learning network consists of three types of layers. The first layer is called the local convolution layer. It consists of three 1-D convolution layer to extract local temporal features from three non-overlapping segments of time-series data of different operating phases of POE. The second layer is fully-connected convolution layer. It extracts global temporal features. And the last layer is the output layer, it provides the binary output of fault or fault free for a given sensor data. The result shows that this framework can classify fault with 95.60% accuracy.

Internet of Things (IoT), Supply Chain monitoring, and other distributed applications rely on messaging protocols for data exchange. Contemporary IoT and enterprise deployments widely use the publish-subscribe messaging model because of its resource-efficiency. However, the systems with publish-subscribe messaging model employ a centralized architecture, wherein the data from all the publishers in the application network flows via a central broker to the subscribers. Such a centralized architecture makes the publish-subscribe messaging model susceptible to Byzantine failures. For example, it provides an opportunity for the organization that owns the broker to tamper with the data. In this work, we contribute Trinity, a novel distributed publish-subscribe broker with Byzantine fault-tolerance and blockchain-based immutability. Trinity distributes the data published to one of the brokers in the network to all the brokers in the network, and stores the data in an immutable ledger through the use of blockchain technology. Through the use of consensus protocols and distributed ledger technology, Trinity can guarantee ordering, fault-tolerance, persistence and immutability across trust boundaries. Our evaluation results show that Trinity consumes minimal resources. To the best of our knowledge, Trinity is the first framework that combines the components of the blockchain technology with the publish-subscribe messaging model. Furthermore, we plan to use Trinity in a real-world use case for increasing the transparency of racial profiling.

Cooperative Operation of DG Inverters and a RIHAF for Power Quality Improvement in an Integrated Transformer-structured Grid-Connected Microgrid

Harmonics in microgrids have attracted intensive power quality concern. It is analyzed in this paper that both currents in the voltage-controlled DG inverter side and the main grid side are easily involved in harmonic distortion due to nonlinear loads and background harmonics. To deal with this issue, a cooperative operation strategy for the DG inverters and a reactor-integrated hybrid active power filter (RIHAF) are proposed based on an integrated transformer-structured grid-connected microgrid. First, for the purpose of cost reduction and covering space saving, an integrated transformer based on a reactor integration technique (RIT) is conceived and the principle of the RIT is illustrated. To improve the current quality in the DG inverter side, a harmonic impedance reinforcement control method is employed to enhance the harmonic rejection performance of the voltage-controlled DG inverter. Besides, taking advantage of the integrated transformer, a RIHAF is proposed to suppress the current harmonics in the main grid side. Detailed simulation results show that current harmonics in both the DG inverter side and the main grid side can be simultaneously suppressed with the proposed cooperative operation strategy. Finally, experimental results from a scaled-down integrated transformer-structured microgrid platform are presented to verify the effectiveness of the RIT and the proposed cooperative operation strategy.

The physical activity is important context information to define and understand the user's situation in real time and in detail. Therefore, we developed a context-aware function using the activity recognition and showed that it is possible to provide more appropriate support according to the user's situation. In this study, we first constructed a model by applying machine learning to data sensed by a smartphone in order to predict the physical activity of the user. In the experiment, high accuracy of 97.6% was obtained by using the model. Next, we developed three functions using the activity recognition. These functions predict the physical activity of user in real time. In addition, user support is performed according to the predicted physical activity. In the experiment using developed functions, it is confirmed that these functions worked correctly in real-world conditions.

This paper presents an extensive set of measurements and suitable consideration on human finger energy harvesting from a mechanically excited piezoelectric element. The actual interest in portable systems and the constant development of electronic devices operating with low power consumption has pushed the scientific research to investigate on systems capable of collecting energy from the environment around them: this topic is the so-called energy harvesting (EH). The EH technologies bring together all the techniques and processes that make it possible recovery, transformation, and accumulation of energy, even of small quantities, obtained from different sources in the environment (radio signals, heat, light, vibration, wind, etc.). In this scenario, mechanical vibrations are a viable solution for providing low power to electronic systems. In particular, in this work, we present a test analysis on a harvesting system composed by a 3D printer finger emulating the human behaviour and a piezoelectric strip to be applied in autonomous smart gloves. Here, the experimental results using a commercial flexible bimorph piezoelectric transducer are given when the strip is implemented on a moving 3D printed finger. Results have demonstrated that a single finger can produce an open-circuit alternate peak-to-peak voltage up to 35.1 V, generating a maximum energy around 5 µW.

The objective of ensuring the security of industrial sites, especially those of major economic and social importance or of special production, is of paramount importance to any country. To this end, a number of organizational and technical measures are taken, in most cases involving the use of a variety of sensors to provide physical protection in the different control and security systems. At the following paper the focus is set on probabilistic nature of location of an alleged intruder. Therefore in the security systems of critical infrastructure a combination of various sensors is being used in order to attain higher probability of correct detection and to minimize the dispersion of the measured coordinates. © 2019 ieee.

Efficient energy utilization is an important subject in the world that is filled with most of the non-renewable resources. In this paper, we are presenting Intelligent Energy meter, which is a smart Electricity measuring device that is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi that helps the direct communication with the Electricity consumers and the Electricity suppliers in terms of the number of units consumed, billing and control of the electricity flow. This electricity meter makes use of the BlynkIoT platform which provides free cloud and connectivity for the IoT devices. The proposed project is aimed at eliminating the human effort for the collection of the electricity bill from every consumer by automating the billing system through the Internet and online payment methods. This device is different from the existing systems not only in terms of the consumer authentication provided in the payment gateway and also in utilizing the industry grade online payment technology -paytm for the secured online payment. © 2019 ieee.
