Over the course of the last several decades, a significant amount of research effort has been carried out to construct wireless sensor networks (WSN) for a broad range of applications. These applications include monitoring agriculture, environment, healthcare, military applications and many more. At present, academics and researchers are focusing on finding solutions to a variety of research problems that are associated with this technological sector. A few of the challenges that researchers must overcome include the development of low-cost and low-power mobile devices, network topologies, deployment techniques, and data routing protocols that are efficient in terms of energy consumption respectively. There has already been a significant amount of research conducted in each of the aforementioned domains on their own, but there are only a handful of research publications or pieces of literature that detail study work that has been conducted in two or more areas simultaneously. Only the simulation work is investigated in the current body of literature, and only a few authors have described the whole design, development, and deployment of WSN. This article provides a comprehensive overview in the form of a literature review, beginning with the design of the mote and finishing with the application that is linked with WSN. © 2024 ieee.

As the Internet of Things (IoT) transforms the structure of our globalized society there is an urgent need for energy-efficient and reconfigurable network solutions. In this paper, we explore the software-defined wireless sensor networks (SDWSNs), with energy being one of the key driving forces that can greatly augment the network functioning whilst prolonging the life of sensor nodes in various application domains of IoT. The most current approaches that employ advanced developments towards energy efficiency, namely intelligent data aggregation and balancing techniques, sleep scheduling strategies, and routing protocols, were reviewed in this study. It also identifies significant ongoing issues and future research directions and addresses energy efficiency issues by synthesizing ideas from various studies. This survey provides excellent information about technology and insight that derives from the current state of methods and challenges for primary concern to scientific and industrial communities and professional stakeholders regarding SDWSNs. © 2025 ieee.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are essential for many applications, such as industrial automation, healthcare, and environmental monitoring. As these networks continue to grow, ensuring the security and energy efficiency of data transmission becomes paramount. This research proposes a novel Secure Energy Consumption Technique (SECT) designed to address the simultaneous challenges of securing communication and optimizing energy consumption in WSNs. The SECT integrates advanced encryption algorithms and efficient key management protocols to fortify the security of data transmission within the network. By employing lightweight cryptographic techniques, the proposed solution aims to assault a balance between security and energy efficiency, ensuring that the overhead associated with encryption does not compromise the sensor nodes' restricted energy resources. Key features of the SECT include a dynamic key management system that adapts to the network's changing conditions, minimizing energy consumption while maintaining a robust security posture. Additionally, the technique incorporates energy-aware routing algorithms to optimize the path selection for data transmission, further reducing energy expenditure. © 2024 ieee.

Wireless sensor networks, or WSNs, are selfconfigured, spatially distributed, large-scale networks composed of small-sized devices called sensors. These networks are deployed primarily in hostile or remote environments where monitoring is required either for critical observation or security purposes. These networks hold a wide range of applications in sectors including medical, military, environmental, industrial, infrastructural, and many more. Data security is one of the primary concerns in these networks, as they use the common medium of air for transmission. Wormhole attacks have been a constant challenge to WSN and disrupt routing in the network. We present an overview of WSN and propose an algorithm based on packet leashing and ZRP that employs specialized nodes to detect and alert the presence of a wormhole in the network. © 2023 ieee.

Wireless Body Area network (WBAN) is an emerging field in healthcare sector which facilitates remote monitoring by gathering health related data using wearable bio-sensors based on IOT. This technological advancement would significantly improve the tracking of fitness, healthcare delivery, medical diagnostics, early disease prediction and associated medical dealings of any individual. Castalia 3.2 is OMNET++ based simulator for wireless sensor network (WSN), patient monitoring or body area network (BAN) and other low power networks. Its scalable model offers a flexible framework that allows testing new algorithms and protocols for specific applications. The proposed model comprised of five sensor nodes along with a coordinator node. sensor nodes include electrocardiography (ECG), Blood Oxygen Saturation (SpO2), Blood Pressure, Body Temperature and Body motion. A number of protocols are being proposed on the different layers of WBAN. This paper provides guidance for simulation of various scenarios and characteristics of Wireless Body Area networks (WBANs) and also furnishes an assessment of quality metrics using Castalia 3.2 Simulator with OMNET++ framework. © 2022 ieee.

The development of small, autonomous sensor devices and their integration into wireless sensor networks has resulted in robust, easy-to-deploy and easy-to-operate systems that are used in a wide range of applications. However, despite the obvious advantages, a number of problems need to be solved to ensure their long-term and uninterrupted operation. One of them is energy efficiency and uniform distribution of energy between the network nodes. studies have shown that cognitive wireless sensor networks are able to adapt to the state and conditions of networks, take into account aspects such as nodes energy levels, and act accordingly. Among the adaptive protocols, LEACH is considered to be quite effective as it helps to reduce the energy consumption of the network, however, the cluster head selection is based on random approach, which may not be the most efficient way. This paper proposes a modification of the cluster head selection method that allows taking into account the energy of each network node. This approach will help to equalize the energy consumption of nodes and optimize the network workflow as a whole, increasing its reliability and service life. © 2024 ieee.

Wireless sensor networks and green networking have been major research areas in the field of communication technology for the past few decades. In particular, the development of 6G communication systems has brought renewed focus on these areas, as the demands for higher data rates, more diverse applications, and lower energy consumption continue to increase. The use of wireless sensor networks in 6G communication systems has been widely explored in the literature, and has shown great potential for a wide range of applications, including environmental monitoring, industrial process control, and healthcare. However, a key challenge in the deployment of these networks is ensuring their energy efficiency, as the demands on the network will be much higher than in previous generations. To address this challenge, researchers have proposed various green networking techniques, such as energy harvesting and low-power communication protocols, which have been shown to significantly reduce the energy consumption of the sensors. In addition to improving the energy efficiency of wireless sensor networks, researchers have also studied their reliability, scalability, and adaptability. These properties are important in 6G communication systems, as the demands on the network are expected to be much higher than in previous generations. Researchers have proposed various methods to improve the reliability, scalability, and adaptability of wireless sensor networks, including the use of error-correction codes, redundant communication channels, and machine learning algorithms. © 2023 ieee.

In a Wireless sensor network (WSN), there is a need for research in design a well-suited routing protocol used for remote applications, and it may resolve the issues related to energy, packet delay, throughput. However, the primary constraint of sensor networks has limited energy sources. An approach is required for enhancing the energy usage that leads to improving the network lifetime. An enhanced clustering protocol designed, and it has shown the energy -efficient in terms of reducing energy usage and extending the network lifetime. The proposed Adaptive Ranking based Energy Efficient Opportunistic Routing (AREOR) [8] protocol consists of two phases, one is an adaptive ranking mechanism to grade the Forwarder Nodes (FNs) and Cluster Head (CH), and the other one is the opportunistic forwarding scheme for optimal energy usage of each sensor Node (SN). In the adaptive ranking technique, parameters highest residual energy and the minimum distance from the source node (Ns) are considered the electing CH in every transmission. The proposed protocol improves the network lifetime and leads to improvement in Message Success Rate (MSR), End-to-End delay (E2 delay), Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), and Energy Consumption (EC). It was observed that the AREOR protocol showed the better statistical validation (rejects the null hypothesis) compared to traditional routing protocols with the total number of samples 30 and the Confidence Interval (CI) is 0.85 considered for simulation. © 2022 ieee.

The Underwater Wireless sensor network (UWSN) is crucial for private, military, and commercial maritime operations, like environmental monitoring, underwater research, scientific data collection, and underwater wireless communications. The existing protocols for Terrestrial Wireless sensor networks (TWSNs) could be better in terms of power efficiency, reliability, and effectiveness. Due to their unique characteristics. The energy-efficient convergent depth variation routing (ECDVR) algorithm is introduced to evaluate and reduce power consumption by calculating the distance between each node point and node depth variation. This algorithm considers the two-hop neighbour depth variation when sending data to a neighbor node with a higher forward angle toward the receiver. It calculates the receive time contribution of the Adaptive Time Difference of Arrival (ATDoA). Adaptive Time Difference of Arrival (ATDoA) The arrival time of a signal makes it simple to estimate the time difference between two signals at a node. The storage node-to-receiver approach is the one that has been proposed for determining the node's remaining power for each information exchange. In the subsequent UWSN transmission, the sink allocates the node's higher power when the node reduces its power. Extending the packet's lifetime and shortening the time it takes to reach its destination boosts system performance. It outperforms the compared algorithms regarding node lifetime, dead node count, power consumption, and propagation delay. © 2023 ieee.

The application of wearable devices for monitoring purposes is an open research topic and the study of increasingly reliable platforms is becoming more and more treated and widespread in the research community due to the recent great development of the telemedicine field. A telemedicine platform based on wearable sensors could allow the reduction of the hospitalizations, the prevention of acute events in chronic patients, the monitoring of the drug therapy's functioning or just an autonomous and periodic monitoring of the patient's health status during daily life or sports practice. Nowadays plenty of monitoring platforms are present in the market, developed for different use cases and scenarios, but usually the design is uncomfortable for the daily usage during sport activities or the clinical relevance of the collected information is poor. In order to address these issues, in this paper we propose an innovative fully wireless embedded platform to collect multiple physiological parameters in a real-time scenario, designed to both maximise user comfort and ensure high synchronization performance between different sensor nodes. Examples of possible applications could be the assessment of the sport performance during a physical training session or the real time evaluation of athletes' health status during long-term sport competitions.
