In this paper, we propose a Hybrid Routing Protocol based on Firefly and Simulated Annealing algorithms (HRP-FASA) as an effective protocol that optimizes the energy consumption of nodes, thus prolonging the overall network lifetime. The idea behind this hybridization is twofold, improving the global search behavior (exploration) and accepting worst solutions (exploitation) with some probability (avoid getting trapped in local minima). Thus, finding the best cluster head's positioning (which is the ideal choice for the cluster head). With regard to energy consumption, the stability period and the amount of data packets delivered to the base station, our proposed protocol outperforms two other famous clustering based routing protocols involved in this study namely, LEACH and LEACH-C. © 2022 ieee.

In this work we present a WSN architecture for precision agriculture. The network is built on a star configuration with two protocols of connectivity: NB-IoT for the gateway and LoRa for sensor nodes. sensor node owns solar harvesting and radio communication capabilities, low power MCU for simple edge computing, I2C and analog interface for sensors. The hardware has been designed to enable deep-sleep current <1 mu A. Communication protocol between nodes and the gateway has been optimized to allow synchronization of the transmission/reception window while maximizing the sleep time, contributing to further reduce the power budget of the node. We demonstrate that all these features enable battery-less operativity in specific scenarios.

We present radio-frequency (RF) information harvesting, a channel sensing technique that takes advantage of the energy in the wireless medium to detect channel activity at essentially no energy cost. RF information harvesting is essential for event-driven wireless sensing applications using battery-less devices that harvest tiny amounts of energy from impromptu events, such as operating a switch, and then transmit the event notification to a one-hop gateway. As multiple such devices may concurrently detect events, coordinating access to the channel is key. RF information harvesting allows devices to break the symmetry between concurrently-transmitting devices based on the harvested energy from the ongoing transmissions. To demonstrate the benefits of RF information harvesting, we integrate it in a tailor-made ultra lowpower hardware MAC protocol we call Radio Frequency-Distance Packet Queuing (RF-DiPaQ). We build a hardware/software prototype of RF-DiPaQ and use an established Markov framework to study its performance at scale. Comparing RF-DiPaQ against staple contention-based MAC protocols, we show that it outperforms pure Aloha and 1-CSMA by factors of 3.55 and 1.21 respectively in throughput, while it saturates at more than double the offered load compared to 1-CSMA. As traffic increases, the energy saving of RF-DiPaQ against CSMA protocols increases, consuming 36% less energy than np-CSMA at typical offered loads.

The environmental monitoring is particularly important in the agricultural sector to avoid or limit destructive phenomena or problems for human activities. "Precision Agriculture", also known as "Engineering for agriculture", uses innovative processes involving the use of integrated systems, such as electronic and automatic systems, to monitor and predict some critical situations. A great possibility for environmental monitoring is the use of Wireless sensor network, low cost structures that need little maintenance, and are simple to install and manage. Our study focuses in particular on the area relating to data transmission through the network, the routing protocols, in order to evaluate the best solution that allows energy savings and increases the reliability of the system. It compares the AODV (Adhoc On Demand Distance Vector), LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy), PEGASIS (Power-Efficient Gathering in sensor Information Systems), MPRR (Multipath Ring Routing) and a modified version of MPRR, carrying out simulations through Castalia, a free tool specific for WSN. The simulations have shown that the modified version of multipath ring routing represents the best solution in terms of network duration and reliability.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) has been widely recognized as one of the most important technology for low power wireless communication and also used in variety of applications like medical, military, industrial, agricultural and environmental monitoring. Here, our approach resolve the issues like collision in healthcare application. In healthcare applications of WSN, normally, the generated information's like emergency, cardiac attack, accident etc. which are coming from Patient Body sensor (PBS) and processed by the sink as soon as possible. It is very much essential to avoid congestion and provide immediate solution without delay. As sensor nodes are battery operated so in all routing protocols designed for WSN, energy should be one targeted parameter. Hence, our proposal is designed not only collect the information centrally but also manage using active queue management (AQM) technique. This technique focuses on queue assisted congestion control type and avoids congestion in the routing phase using multipath and also manages the queue in each node when packet reaches by packet loss probability. © 2022 ieee.

Wireless sensor networks have become so popular in many applications such as vehicle tracking and monitoring, environmental measurements and radiation analysis. These applications can be ready to go for further processing by connecting it to remote servers through protocols that outside world used such as internet. This brings IPv6 over low power wireless sensor network (6LowPAN) into very important role to develop a bridge between internet and WSN network. Though a reliable communication demands many parameters such as data rate, effective data transmission, data security as well as packet size etc. A gateway between 6lowPAN network and IPV6 is needed where frame size compression is required in order to increase payload of data frame on hardware platform. © 2021 ieee.

Most of the modern cars are equipped with automotive radar sensors. These are important components of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Over-the-air (OTA) stimulation of the radar sensor can be used to realize testing of such systems on a test-rig for ready-to-drive cars;many radar target stimulators (RTS) enable OTA testing. Most state-of-the-art RTS are only capable of generating point targets. Unlike point ones, the real radar targets look more like target clouds. In this paper we discuss a novel concept to create more realistic synthetic radar targets with reasonable effort utilizing RTS.

A lot of progression has been observed in Mobile Wireless sensor network (MWSN) in modern era due to its applications in vicinity. Recent trends show how it is very challenging to retain stability in the network in terms of delay, packet delivery ratio and stability. Nodes mobilization is vital in stabilizing the network, and various routing protocols are used to maintain connectivity, throughput, coverage, minimal energy cost. As a matter of fact it is really demanding that a single routing protocol will be able to cover up for numerous circumstances altogether. Several routing protocols have been worked upon for a variety of network scenarios. The categorization of routing protocols is countered on the basis of type of network structure, information status, network efficiency and mobility. In this paper Hierarchal routing protocols classification is presented which can help enhance network life and save energy consumption. © 2021 ieee.

Growing demand in wireless Mobile Adhoc networks due to their immense potential and effectiveness in varied applications had motivated researchers to control and optimize various parameters for efficient routing in mobile environment. The rapidly changing environment of the network due to mobility of nodes results in unpredictable topology and thus introduces primary challenge to design better and an efficient routing protocol. The network in such case lacks fixed infrastructure and common head centric design. MANET routing schemes use flooding to propagate packets in the network resulting retransmissions, collisions, and congestions which significantly degrade the performance of the network. Using GPS, knowing the geographical position of the sensor nodes, the protocol performance can be improved while reducing the number of retransmissions. The proposed work is a future extension of efficient flooding based on selective neighbours where the surrounding region limiting the transmission range is divided into eight quadrants or zones with the source at the centre called zone based selective neighbours (ZBSN). Flooding based on selective four neighbours suffers from few selection of hoping or forwarding nodes when the node density is low and does not meet the selection criteria around the source or forwarder node and may miss the chance of approaching the destination or requires large number of hops. This neighbour selection scheme uses the modified approach of the Adhoc on Demand Distance Vector (AODV) protocol to reduce the flooding of Route request (RREQ) packets, control the network overall traffic, improves link stability and the residual energy reducing the overheads by 24%. © 2022 ieee.

In this study, the performance of a new optimized scintillator-based cosmic-ray neutron detector called CRNS-FINAPP for large-scale soil moisture estimation is presented and discussed. The assessment is based on the comparison to two commercial detectors commonly used for this application at two experimental sites and based on independent gravimetric soil moisture measurements collected at one additional irrigated cropped field. The results showed good performance of the new detector at all the experimental sites, with values well in agreement with the different benchmarks. Thus, this new detector demonstrates to be a valid alternative to existing cosmic-ray neutron devices. Considering its lower cost and the smaller dimension, it opens the path to wider use of this method in many applications.
