This paper presents the design and development of a real-time monitoring system for DC microgrids in solar farms using an MQTT-based IIoT device integrated with Node-RED. The system incorporates voltage and current sensors connected to solar panels, with an ESP32 microcontroller reading data from the sensors to calculate power output. This data is transmitted to a Raspberry Pi server via a WiFi network, utilizing the MQTT protocol for efficient and reliable communication. Node-RED manages and visualizes the data flow, providing a user-friendly interface through its dashboard for monitoring real-time voltage, current, and power readings. This integration of IIoT devices with Node-RED streamlines data collection, processing, and visualization, enhancing solar farms' overall monitoring and control. The proposed system's scalability allows for the seamless addition of new sensors and microgrids without substantial modifications, addressing the need for flexible expansion in large-scale solar farms. Detailed flow diagrams and performance evaluations are included to demonstrate the system's effectiveness and reliability in real-time applications. Compared to existing monitoring solutions, this system offers lower costs, higher scalability, and enhanced real-time data processing capabilities, making it suitable for deployment in various renewable energy environments.

Wireless multi-hop transmission is a new technology that has been used for data transfer in no internet connectivity and electricity area. Wireless sensor networks are being created for many different purposes, both for everyday civilian uses and military applications. Multi-hop transmissions are popular with challenges like shape of terrain, low data transfer rate and loss connectivity easily when it comes to design. The main problem is current control for routing in multi-hop wireless sensor networks works as what it has been initialized and the nodes only communicate with preset nodes. Malfunction of a single transceiver can cause connection losses and decrease network reliability. This report will explore the optimization of multi-hop wireless communication by implementing ACO in omnidirectional transceiver. The aim is to develop wireless sensor network model, compute control strategy for routing in random topology, to optimize wireless transmission by implementing artificial intelligence and analyze the performance of proposed algorithm. To achieved these goals, a simulation has been designed in MATLAB to represent the real situation virtually. Several parameters such as number of nodes, area size and transmission range must be considered in the simulation to get optimum result. Conventional routing protocol such as Distance-Vector is used as a comparison to ACO control strategy with the help of Euclidean distance formula. This project focus on optimizing routing strategy from source node to target node without considering pathloss and line of sight. Then, the results are performance comparison of Distance-Vector, Randomized Multi-Path and Ant Colony Optimization in 100 iterations. After simulation, Ant Colony Optimization does improve Distance-Vector by increasing network lifetime with 1st ‘dead node’ appear at 100th iteration but still maintaining as least average hops path as possible. In recent years, the development of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) up to fully automated vehicles (AV), based on digitalization and boosted big data managing within dense multi-sensor networks, has become a strategic perspective for automotive and mechatronics engineering, oriented toward innovation of transports, infrastructure-vehicle and vehicle-to-vehicle real-time interconnections, automation in transport systems for people and goods and in smart farming, including safety-driving, navigation and positioning systems, traffic flows management and pollution controls. One of the key points for the development of safe and trustworthy ADAS and AV systems is linked to the accuracy and the reliability of sensors employed in multi-sensor networks, thus on traceable metrological characterizations, based on standard procedures and/or experimental methods widely agreed. In this work, the trustworthiness, in terms of data output reliability, stability and accuracy, of a digital 3D gyroscope integrated into a commercial multisensory MEMS, subjected to external vibrations, is investigated. The sensor is mounted on inclined planes (6 tilted angles, between 0 degrees and 90 degrees) and at 8 different rotation angles (from 0 degrees to 360 degrees);the inclined planes are fixed on a vibrating table. The static condition, as a function of tilt and rotation, is preliminarily investigated in the local gravitational field. Dynamic conditions are investigated by generating a sinusoidal horizontal acceleration, at a nearly-constant amplitude of 0.1 m s(-2) at 2 Hz, along the horizontal direction for 120 s. Both static and dynamic reference accelerations are traceable to the absolute gravimetry, and the vibration primary standard, at INRIM.

Measurements carried out in the field require power consumption planning so sufficient amount of measurements can be carried out without battery recharge. If instantaneous results report is expected, then communication and data storage, processing resources also have to be proportional to the load expected. Latency of the data transmission, processing and reporting should be maintained within acceptable limits. The plant physiological status estimation system 1 considered in this paper is for field application. It communicates with cloud service using the smartphone as intermediate node. Paper presents the analysis of the power consumption and data latency versus operational modes. Models have been developed, accounting the data acquisition algorithm and data transmission protocols. Analysis results can be used to estimate the sensor and gateway service life from one charge or maximum time between measurement initiation and report delivery. It was found that both sensor and gateway could sustain their operation from one charge over one day operation. As of latency, it was found that single core single server solution can maintain just few users simultaneously. More servers are needed for larger users pool: e.g. 200 servers are required to service 10000 users.

Industrial networks - both wired and wireless have been used by manufacturing plants and factories for many years. These networks are not always considered as primary elements of industrial architecture, although they should be. With the advent of Industry 4.0, there are already many innovation initiatives, industry recommendations, and standards in the topic of industrial network infrastructure - but integration guidelines on Industry 4.0 and the networking architectures are incomplete. In the absence of a better methodology, the networks are usually over-designed, but still rigid and are not ready to cover future needs. This paper aims to provide methods on determining some key parameters of existing industrial traffic. Building upon the state-of-the-art, the paper presents a method for testing and analyzing an existing data transfer network traversing industrial traffic. Furthermore, we provide insights on how it is worth to examine industrial networks, and find out whether a given transmission technology can meet the demands - based on the analysis of existing industrial traffic.

The paper presents new results of automated path planning for an industrial robot manipulator performing microplasma spraying of coatings on substrates with complex surface shapes. Path planning and automatic generation of the manipulator motion program are performed using data of a preliminary 3D surface scanning by a laser triangulation distance sensor installed on the same robot arm. The automatic manipulator working tool path planning algorithm is based on the choice of the starting segment of the working tool trace as a geodetic line on the surface. An algorithm for optimal spatial curve approximation by a sequence of line segments and arcs has been developed as a part of the automatic manipulator program generation system. The developed algorithms and their software implementation were experimentally tested through robotic microplasma spraying of a protective coating on the surface of a jaw crusher plate, which was then successfully operated for crushing mineral raw materials.

The cloud-native paradigm has become a well-known approach to ensure the elasticity and reliability of applications running in the cloud. One recurrent motif is the stateless design of applications, which aims to decouple the life-cycle of application states from the life-cycle of individual application instances. Application data is written to and read from cloud databases, deployed close to the application code to ensure low latency bounds on state access. When applying a stateless design, the performance of the cloud service is often limited by the cloud database. In order not to become a bottleneck, database instances are distributed on multiple hosts, and strive to ensure data locality for all application functions. However, the shared nature of certain states, and the inevitable dynamics of the application workload necessarily lead to inter-host data access. If the service is geographically distributed, this is even across data centers and edge servers resulting in a significant delay. To minimize the service performance loss due to the stateless design of applications, we propose a latency and access pattern aware state storage method, called state-layer, that can be easily applied in any kind of key-value store with the ability of deciding where to store replicas in the cluster and measure networking/computing delay. By adapting our solution to Anna, a key-value store from academia, we show the proposed state-layer is ideal to use as a cloud database for storing application states. To foster further research in this area, we make our proof-of-concept solution open-source.

In this paper, we propose a network coding (NC) enabled transmission strategy in the User Plane (UP) of mobile backhaul for networks operators. In the proposed method, NC provides robustness against the transport network failures, so that there will not be any more processing for re-transmission by the User Equipment (UE) in comparison to traditional approaches where re-transmissions are performed by UE applications. Our simulation results indicate that an average 1% loss ratio in the backhaul link creates 59.44% additional total transmission time compared to normal standard GPRS Tunneling Protocol - User Plane (GTP-U) transmission. On the other hand, applying NC at 1% and 2% rates reduces this amount to 52.99% and 56.26% respectively, which is also better than the total transmission time performance of some previously studied dynamic replication schemes as keeping bandwidth utilization at low ratios. Moreover, we also observe a trade-off between total transmission time and NC rate related to expected packet loss ratio such that minimum total transmission time is obtained when NC rate is equal to expected packet loss rate.

Quickest change detection in a sensor network is considered where each sensor observes a sequence of random variables and transmits its local information on the observations to a fusion center. At an unknown point in time, the distribution of the observations at all sensors changes. The objective is to detect the change in distribution as soon as possible, subject to a false alarm constraint. We consider minimax formulations for this problem and propose a new approach where transmissions are ordered and halted when sufficient information is accumulated at the fusion center. We show that the proposed approach can achieve the optimal performance equivalent to the centralized cumulative sum (CUSUM) algorithm while requiring fewer sensor transmissions. Numerical results for a shift in mean of independent and identically distributed Gaussian observations show significant communication savings for the case where the change seldom occurs which is frequently true in many important applications.

Forthcoming 5G systems promise a myriad of new and improved applications, relying on network Functions Virtualization (NFV) to realize some of 5G's stringent requirements. To guarantee that these requirements are met, network monitoring and management must be deployed and fine-tuned according each application's specificity. As Virtual network Functions (VNFs) adhere to the microservice paradigm, picking and configuring the right tools is not a trivial task for users. In this paper, we present SWEETEN, a system that assists user to operate a 5G network with the appropriate management tools for the job, in a transparent manner to the user. By enriching their function stack with high-level annotation of the management features they desire, users can easily deploy an augmented stack with both network and management functions. A prototype is presented and evaluated in a dynamic Cloud Radio Access network (C-RAN) split case study. The evaluation confirms that SWEETEN can assist users in effortlessly deploying complex management solutions, while incurring in acceptable deployment time overhead and negligible computational overhead for throughout the functions life-cycle.
