Underwater acoustic sensor network with terrestrial wireless sensor network characteristics distinct, underwater acoustic sensor network uses sound waves to be transmitted, resulting in underwater network with high propagation delay characteristics, if applied directly to land-based routing mechanism water network, will give rise to a number of problems. Therefore, this paper designed for underwater network environment routing protocols, thereby reducing the underwater acoustic sensor network to send packets to the end-to-end delay and for collaborative work on underwater acoustic transmission sensor network, encountered the challenges of high propagation delay characteristics discussed. This paper presents the work last sleep period, coordinated and collaborative collection of neighbor information transfer protocol. Through simulation, this paper found that the proposed routing protocol SCTP, the delay in the point to point, network transmission performance and power consumption of a significant improvement in performance. © 2014 Springer international Publishing Switzerland. With the recent advances in embedded systems and wireless communication technologies, wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have gained great attention to realize efficient and low cost control systems for smart grid. The existing applications of WSNs on smart grid include advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), equipment fault diagnostics, outage detection, conductor temperature and dynamic thermal rating, power fraud detection, towers and poles monitoring. However, recent field tests show that low-power wireless links in smart grid environments have variable link qualities and high packet error rates because of RF interference, fading effects, equipment noise, and obstructions in smart grid environments. Hence, the realization of WSN-based smart grid applications is directly related to the performance of WSN communication protocols in harsh smart grid environments. In this paper, the performance of the state-of-the-art WSN medium access control (MAC) protocols, such as ieee 802.15.4, ieee 802.11, CSMA, TDMA, and Z-MAC, has been evaluated to better understand the advantages and disadvantages of evaluated MAC protocols in harsh smart grid spectrum environments. Overall, the main goal of this paper is to quantify the impact of the smart grid propagation environment characteristics on the performance of evaluated MAC protocols in terms of network throughput, packet reception rate, and energy consumption.

In many body sensor network (BSN) applications, such as activity recognition for assisted living residents or physical fitness assessment of a sports team, users spend a significant amount of time with one another while performing many of the same activities. We exploit this physical proximity with Remora, a smartphone-based Body sensor network activity recognition system which shares sensing resources among neighboring BSNs. Compared to other resource sharing approaches, Remora provides both increased accuracy and significant energy savings. To increase classification accuracy, Remora BSNs share sensors by overhearing neighbors' sensor data transmissions. When sharing, fewer on-body sensors are needed to achieve high accuracy, resulting in energy savings by turning off unneeded sensors. To save phone energy, neighboring BSNs share classifiers: only one classifier is active at a time classifying activities for all neighbors. Remora addresses three major challenges of sharing with physical neighbors: 1) Sharing only when the energy benefit outweighs the cost, 2) Finding and utilizing the shared sensors and classifiers which produce the best combination of accuracy improvement and energy savings, and 3) Providing a lightweight and collaborative classification approach, without the use of a backend server, which adapts to the dynamics of available neighbors. In a two week evaluation with 6 subjects, we show that Remora provides up to a 30% accuracy increase while extending phone battery lifetime by over 65%.

Summary form only given, as follows. Message from the Capacity Sharing workshop: Internet data traffic continues to grow rapidly. In future it will not be cost-efficient to extend network resources in the same ratio than the traffic demand. Instead applications, transport layer mechanism, traffic engineering, and network management need to seek new technologies to efficiently utilize available network resources, in particular resource allocation and flow management. The Capacity Sharing workshop makes contributions to his problems from different angles: optimizations to queue management on network elements, congestion control algorithms/protocols on end hosts, network resource sharing leveraging virtualization and centralized control through Software-Defined networking, as well as congestion exposure and network-to-application interfaces. We would like to thank all authors for submitting interesting papers on current and important research work on this topic. Special thanks are due to our international TPC of renowned experts who have done a great job in reviewing and evaluating the submissions in a timely and accurate manner. Traditionally, protocols and applications in the networking domain have been designed to work in large-scale heterogeneous, hierarchically organized networks with low failure rate. In a Wireless sensor network (WSN) scenario, new problems arise and traditional routing protocols cannot be successfully applied. Additionally, in energy-restricted environments like WSNs the overhead of keeping routing information fresh becomes unbearable. In this problem context problem context, many researchers have turned their attention to the domain of machine learning (ML). The technology of sensor devices and networks is evolving rapidly with significant advances in size, processing power, memory, and energy efficiency. In addition, the cost of sensors is constantly decreasing making it possible to use large quantities of these sensors in a wide variety of important applications in environmental, military, commercial, health care, and other fields. In order to monitor certain types of infrastructures. Many of these applications involve lining up the sensors in a linear form, making a special class of these networks which are defined in this work as Linear sensor networks (LSNs). In a previous paper, we introduced the concept of LSNs along with a classification of the different types of LSNs, a sample of their applications and the motivation for designing specialized protocols that take advantage of the linearity of the network to enhance their communication efficiency, reliability, fault tolerance, energy savings, and network lifetime. This paper presents a distributed topology discovery algorithm for a hierarchical two-level LSNs. New definitions for important structure and design parameters are introduced. The proposed protocol allows the nodes to construct an ordered list of the nodes in the network which can be used to create an efficient routing table. In addition, it would be useful for simplifying, and enhancing the reliability and robustness of the routing process by taking advantage of the linear alignments of the nodes. Furthermore, the protocol does not require the nodes to have location detection capabilities such as GPS, which would lead to a more complex design and higher cost of the sensor nodes. © 2012 ieee.

Thereby, future grid management systems have to cope with larger amounts of data than today's grid management systems. Also, future high-level applications for network management must be suited for use within automatic control loops. This results in new challenges for designing high-level application components for power grid management. Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs) provide new trends in data capturing. WMSNs characteristics such as limited resources and restricted power in addition to multimedia specifications such as high-bandwidth and real-time constraints have made programming for such networks complicated. To provide a high-level interface for programmers and end users a middleware is needed between OS layer and applications to hide low-level details. None of the existing middle-wares has focused especially on multimedia ones. In this article, we propose a middleware named SAWM based on network architecture suitable for WMSNs. This network architecture is a three layered one that is composed of infra-red sensors, visual sensors and smart cameras. SAWM is a service-oriented agent-based middleware. It looks at the network as a service provider composed of several services that programmers just need to put needed services in an order and create a relation between them to make an execution flow. As a result code updates can be easily done and less memory is used for keeping programming codes. The proposed model is evaluated using a case study trying to commit a monitoring task.

Wireless sensor network, WSN to the exchange of data with each other must have the appropriate wireless network protocols, wireless protocols difficult to adapt to the traditional low-cost wireless sensors, low power, high fault tolerance requirements. In this case, ZigBee protocol came into being. ZigBee is an emerging short-range, low complexity, low-speed, low power, low-cost wireless networking technology, mainly for short-range wireless connection. It is based on ieee 802.15.4/ZigBee protocol standards, in thousands of tiny sensors to achieve communication between the coordination. This background paper, based on ZigBee wireless meter reading system proposed routing algorithms and networking. In-depth analysis of several typical wireless sensor network routing protocols, through a network of some of the traditional routing algorithm feasibility, problems and improvement of, for the ZigBee standard in the meter reading system, designed for meter reading system network routing algorithm, the test achieved the mesh point to point communication between modules[1]. © 2012 ICst Institute for Computer Science, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.
