This paper presents a study on the use of gamified educational escape rooms to foster the teaching-learning process of computer programming, based on an user type taxonomy. Gamification can be applied to grab the attention of people in wide range of environments. This work sheds light upon the prospects of its application in classroom to deliver the education related to computer programming is called 'Open Market'. To study the impact upon students after applying this strategy, the level of motivation, engagement and learning were explored. This paper proposed a novel engagement model to improve learning level in student and comp are the impact of gamification method from traditional methods in terms of assessment methods for 'Open Market'. This paper also encourages student's agenda in student learning process by analyzing standard deviation in learning in number of parameters like age, subject, motivation type, and intrinsic method for engagement in programming subjects like C, C++, Python, Java etc. The outcome of the study contends in the support of open market strategy to be indulged in the teaching and learning mechanism. © 2024 IEEE.

The use of third-party components (TPCs) and open-source software (OSS) has become increasingly popular in software development, and this trend has also increased the chance of detecting security vulnerabilities. Understanding practical recurring vulnerabilities that occur in real-world applications (TPCs and OSS) is a very important step to educate not only aspiring software developers, but also seasoned ones. To achieve this goal, we analyze publicly available OSS software on GitHub to identify the most common security vulnerabilities and their frequency of occurrence between 2009 and 2022. Our work looks at programming language and type of vulnerability and also analyses the number of code lines needed to be changed to fix different vulnerabilities. Furthermore, our work contributes to the understanding of real-world and human-made data quality required for training machine learning algorithms by highlighting the importance of homogeneous and complete data. We provide insights for both developers and researchers seeking to improve cybersecurity in software education and mitigate risks associated with OSS and TPCs. This paper introduces Speedcode, an online programming platform that aims to improve the accessibility of software performance-engineering education. At its core, Speedcode provides a platform that lets users gain hands-on experience in software performance engineering and parallel programming by completing short programming exercises. Speedcode challenges users to develop fast multicore solutions for short programming problems and evaluates their code's performance and scalability in a quiesced cloud environment. Speedcode supports parallel programming using OpenCilk, task-parallel computing platform that is open-source and easy to program, teach and use for research. Speedcode aims to reduce barriers to learning and teaching software performance engineering. It allows users to run and evaluate their code on modern multicore machines from their own computer without installing any software. This provides users an easy introduction to the topic, and enables teachers to more easily incorporate lessons on software performance engineering into their courses without incurring the onerous overhead of needing to setup computing environments for their students.

While parallel programming, particularly on graphics processing units (GPUs), and numerical optimization hold immense potential to tackle real-world computational challenges across disciplines, their inherent complexity and technical demands often act as daunting barriers to entry. This, unfortunately, limits accessibility and diversity within these crucial areas of computer science. To combat this challenge and ignite excitement among undergraduate learners, we developed an application-driven course, harnessing robotics as a lens to demystify the intricacies of these topics making them tangible and engaging. Our course's prerequisites are limited to the required undergraduate introductory core curriculum, opening doors for a wider range of students. Our course also features a large final-project component to connect theoretical learning to applied practice. In our first offering of the course we attracted 27 students without prior experience in these topics and found that an overwhelming majority of the students fell that they learned both technical and soft skills such that they felt prepared for future study in these fields.

The utilization of Git for version control and collaboration has long been the staple of the software development industry. To ensure that computer Science students are industry-ready, academics adopt the use of platforms like GitHub in their teaching in different ways to expose students to these tools. In earlier studies, GitHub has been integrated for the purposes of student management, collection of assessments and facilitation of collaborative programming exercises. This paper explores the use of lecturer-provided GitHub repositories as a tool to support the teaching of core aspects of a programming curriculum. The pedagogical approach constructivism required students to learn core concepts by following repositories to build simpler applications. Thereafter, students are assigned more complex applications to develop. students were required to work in pairs and submit their repositories for evaluation. This study adopted a case study approach supported by a combination of a student survey and a focus group discussion among lecturers and the teaching assistant involved in the course. Key findings included that integrating GitHub repositories presents several opportunities for collaboration, knowledge enhancement, self-directed learning, and reduced stress. However, this approach also resulted in team and technical challenges becoming prevalent, with students finding their own ways to overcome these challenges. Additionally, lecturers observed varied levels of engagement, reliance on lecturer-provided code, and occasional contextual challenges related to Internet connectivity. Lecturer-provided repositories can be enhanced in terms of structure, the inclusion of more comments explaining code, and through the inclusion of images and video. Recommendations are provided for academics who are looking to integrate GitHub into their teaching practice as well as suggestions for future work. © 2024 Proceedings of the international conference on education Research, ICER 202

programming can help K-12 students to develop their 21st-century core skills. Despite the benefits, programming is not common to be delivered in Indonesian K-12 education. There is a need to understand potential challenges in introducing programming to K-12 students. We developed a questionnaire survey covering four identified dimensions of challenges: administrative, facilities, teachers, and students. We also asked about common programming assessments and their preferred software features for teaching programming. Forty K-12 teachers were invited to complete the survey. The responses were analyzed with thematic analysis using a bigram-based Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic modeling and descriptive statistics. Our study shows that the challenges include limited learning modules, an insufficient number of computers, limited programming skills, and limited computational thinking skills. Scratch was the most common programming language used and many programming assessments were about debugging a program or writing a small program. Visualization and animation can be helpful in teaching programming. © 2023 IEEE.

In late 2019, a new class of coronavirus appeared in China that triggered a worldwide pandemic declared by the World Health Organization. Several businesses were affected and people had to adapt their social life to a virtual mode. Higher education institutions suffered from this sudden change, and had to adapt without any preparation or planning. After almost two years of carrying out activities in an online format, face-to-face activities in higher education have returned. This case study aims to analyze the performance of students in a new curricular unit of the Engineering and Management of Information Systems course at the School of Engineering of the University of Minho in Portugal. The study is applied to 142 students who entered the 1st year of the 2019/2020 school year and returned to face-to-face activities in the 3rd year of the 2021/2022 school year. Two questionnaires were applied, one at the beginning of the semester with 71 answers and another at the end of the semester with 39 answers. Visualization is the representation of information in the form of various charts or images. Data visualization is used to identify useful patterns, to understand trends, and to find out outliers in dataset. Data visualization is applied in all sectors such as medical, engineering, etc. for analyzing the data. Data visualization is also useful to instructor as well as students in education sector. In this research article, we have used the Python programming Language features to visualize the data collected from university related to Four Years computer Science and Engineering Programme related to result analysis ledgers of students for the Academic Year 2014-15 and 2015-16. Python features such as streamlit, pandas, altair, and random are considered to create the visualization of data. Various charts such as Pie chart, Scatter plot, Box plot, Density chart, Heatmap chart, Distribution Box Plot, Distribution Histogram, Distribution Line, and Distribution Swarm are used to visualize the data Teacher point of view, students point of view, and Course-wise. From teacher/ instructors point of view, it is used to analyze the data semester-wise, and Yearwise for grade distribution, marks distribution, and percentile distribution while from students/ learner’s point of view, data visualization examine the data semester-wise, and Year-wise for marks and grade analysis of particular student. In case of course-wise part of visualization, we can see students-wise grade and marks of particular course, course-wise distribution, course-wise Distribution Histogram, course-wise Distribution Line, and course-wise Distribution Swarm. © 2024 IEEE.
