The extensive use of the Internet has been growing over time, so networks need a robust and stable algorithm that can provide high performance over various loads. Congestion in the data network occurs at a gateway when there is more incoming traffic than the outgoing data. Congestion reduces system throughput, stability, and fairness, and it increases packet drop. Most congestion-avoidance algorithms control a network traffic by dropping incoming packets. A method of congestion control for TCP networks is proposed which shows performance improvement over Random Early Detection (RED) method in terms of throughput and packet drop, fairness, and queue length stability. The average percentage of packet loss for RED is 7.88% of the received packets where GFC has a zero packet loss and the average percentage improvement of throughput in GFC is 9.34%. This method, Gateway Feedback Congestion control (GFCC) is based on determining the maximum number of bytes or packets that each user is allowed to send in order to avoid congestion and improve throughput. GFCC divides users into active and inactive users to calculate the maximum number of bytes (MNB) that each active user can send. When each active user sends its fair share of data, no congestion can occur. GFCC uses TCP characteristics to detect active users that allows the gateway to adjust the value of MNB. © 2018 IEEE.

For many multiple objective (MO) water distribution system (WDS) design problems, decisionmakers know a priori some preferences that define a region of interest in objective space. For computationally intensive design problems, incorporating such preferences has the potential to save computation time if the preferences can appropriately guide the algorithm to the region of interest. MO algorithms have been specifically adapted and modified in order to incorporate such preferences. Unfortunately this complicates the original algorithms and can add additional algorithm parameters to the search. In this paper, the objective functions, rather than the algorithm, are specially adapted to incorporate preferences defining a region of interest in objective space and the Pareto Archived Dynamically Dimensioned Search (PADDS) algorithm is utilized for optimization. For two benchmark MO WDS design problems, results show the objective function adaptations work well. Results show the new formulation yields new best known Pareto front solutions to the design problems. © 2018 1st international WDSA / CCWI 2018 Joint conference. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a novel nonlinear speed control for a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) using the synergetic approach to control theory (SACT) and sliding mode control (SMC).The traditional proportion integral derivative (PID) control is widely used in the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) speed control system because of its simple control method, but it is difficult to meet the high precision control requirements. Recent research has reported that the PMSM is being increasingly used in high-performance applications, such as robots and industrial machines, which require speed controllers that provide not only accuracy and high performance, but also flexibility and efficiency in the design process and implementation. It has also been reported that the best approach to achieve high-performance in a PMSM drive is to consider the whole nonlinear motor dynamics in the controller synthesis. Many control schemes using varied nonlinear strategies have been presented;however, most of them are very complex to design and implement, even when they show good performance. We propose a nonlinear control scheme based on the SMC-SACT, which allows the designer to generate the required control laws by following a direct method. This paper proposes a new motor speed control approach based on methods of synergetic control thory, which combines the traditional speed closed-loop control and synergetic control. Then, an sliding-mode disturbance observer is proposed to estimate lumped uncertainties directly, to compensate strong disturbances and achieve high servo precisions. Simulation and experimental results both show the validity of the proposed control approach. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In order to study the influence of the state of train on the power supply network of urban rail transit, it is necessary to model and analyse the DC traction power supply system and vehicles. Based on the analysis of the structure of power supply system for urban rail transit and according to the operating principle of train, the modeling method of traction power supply system is proposed. The model of DC traction power supply system and train are established in the Simulink environment. The speed, position and power of the train vary with time through simulation, so the electrical value of train operation such as voltage that changes over time can be obtained under the model. The simulation results and the measured data are consistent in the trend of change, but there is a certain difference in corresponding values (fluctuated in an acceptable range), which verifies the validity of the model. In addition, it compares the energy consumption of substations at different departure intervals. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Present research paper focuses reactive power management & voltage instability issues of a wind energy based dispersed power generating station. The iterative performances of PID controller as well as the robust H. damping controller of the hybrid power system is designed through linear matrix inequalities (LMI) approach. The stability aspects of dispersed wind energy based HPS are considered for discussion where the issue of reactive power compensation is addressed by linear static var compensator (SVC) controller. The control aspects of SVC as well as the whole hybrid system are taken care by H. linear matrix inequalities approach. The iterative LMI method has been implemented for tuning the gains of PID controller with H. design by the help of iterative LMI. The wind-diesel hybrid system is also implemented experimentally where a proto type hardware model has been established by taking the help of dSPACE real time control environment. In this case dSPACE 1104 is added for data acquisition and control. Experimental results obtained during practical case analysis justify the simulation results of MATLAB. Adaptability and robustness of the proposed controllers are achieved under fluctuating loads and wind power uncertainty.

The polyphenols profiles of the methanol extracts of bitter apricot [Armeniaca Sibirica (L.)] kernel skins (AKS) were analysed by liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The antioxidan, anticancer effect on HepG2 cell and antibacterial properties of the AKS polyphenol extracts were further characterized in vitro. Polyphenol compounds (35), including nine phenolic acids, thirteen anthocyanins and thirteen flavonoids, were identified in AKS for the first time. The content of apigenin 7-O-glucoside, (cyanidin 3-(4 ''-acetylrutinoside), 3- (6 ''-acetylglucoside)-5-glucoside and salicylic acid was relatively high than the others. The AKS poly phenols strongly reduced Fe3+ and exhibited good scavenging activity towards 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) free radicals, 1,1-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radicals, hydroxyl radicals, superoxide anions and hydrogen peroxide. The AKS polyphenols could regulate oxidant stress in HepG2 cells by downregulating reduced glutathione, upregulating oxidative glutathione, malondialdehyde and advanced oxidation protein products, and reduced cell viability to induce apoptosis of HepG2 cells in vitro. The AKS poly phenols showed strong antibacterial activity against Escherichia colt, staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Acetobacter aceti and Bacillus cereus. Therefore, the antioxidant, inhibitory effect on HepG2 cells and antimicrobial activity of the AKS polyphenols were distinct and worthy of further consideration for medical industry applications.

With the fast development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs), more and more energy efficient routing algorithms have been proposed. However, one of the research challenges is how to alleviate the hot spot problem since nodes close to static sink (or base station) tend to die earlier than other sensors. The introduction of mobile sink node can effectively alleviate this problem since sink node can move along certain trajectories, causing hot spot nodes more evenly distributed. In this paper, we mainly study the energy efficient routing method with multiple mobile sinks support. We divide the whole network into several clusters and study the influence of mobile sink number on network lifetime. Simulation results show that the best network performance appears when mobile sink number is about 3 under our simulation environment.

The article is devoted to the investigation of speech recognition in Flight Simulator cockpit. We have done research and developed software for speech recognition in Flight Simulator with limited vocabulary in C# from scratch. The speech recognition system works in real time and offline mode in Windows platform. We used Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients and Linear Predictive Coefficients feature extraction algorithms and trained the system by multilayer artificial neural networks. The User Interface of platform is highly functional and allows users to update system parameters through the interface. Our Speech Recognition system results are compared to the results of Microsoft Speech SDK and received satisfactory achievement.

This research aims to study the key-parameters that influence the construction cost of wastewater pumping stations and to estimate the construction cost using advanced statistical analysis. Most studies consider only the physical or hydraulic parameters to estimate the cost functions of urban water cycle assets. Key-parameters associated to wastewater pumping stations belong to the following three groups: i) construction contracts;ii) physical characteristics and hydraulic parameters of pumping stations;and iii) construction costs. A five-step methodology was followed: 1) contract data collection, processing and analysis;2) asset characterisation and present cost value calculation;3) data reduction using principal components analysis;4) key-parameters data grouping using cluster analysis;and 5) cost function estimation and validation. A set of 360 wastewater pumping stations distributed throughout Portugal was analysed. The principal component analysis was carried out to reduce the number of key-parameters. Cluster analysis was carried out to group the key-parameters in homogeneous clusters. Cost functions were estimated based on multiple linear regression analysis. Results are discussed and conclusions are drawn concerning using this approach for other assets. © 2018 1st international WDSA / CCWI 2018 Joint conference. All rights reserved.

This paper reports on the data management and sorting aspects of a water end-use project within the City of Johannesburg. One of the objectives of the project was to analyze water use within 63 homes over a period of at least 1 year, and from the analyses, to realistically determine the potential water savings that could result when end-uses are subjected to specific water conservation and/or water demand management measures. To log the end-use data needed, smart meters were installed in series with existing mechanical meters and end-use data was logged every 15 seconds. While the intention was to log only end-use data from the 63 smart meters, in reality, data from every nearby device (e.g. smart meters, car and gate remotes, and drones), transmitting at the same frequency as the designated smart meters, was logged. This data was then stored as comma separated value (∗.csv) files and transmitted every hour to a remote File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server. Considering the quantum data generated hourly (∼500 kb = 10 000 - 16 000 records), the inappropriate format of the data, and the large number of records that were not relevant to the study, manually sorting the data into a format appropriate for analysis was cumbersome. To make the sorting process efficient, algorithms were developed. Some processes within the algorithms were programmed using Visual Basic for Applications and coupled with shareware. After undertaking several iterations of sorting the data, a reasonably efficient algorithm is proposed in this paper. While the experience articulated in this paper does not represent all data generating efforts, it certainly does for some. Hence, it will be useful if (a) data generating installations incorporate the flexibility to customize output data formats to suit user preferences, and (b) software to sort data are easily available. © 2018 1st international WDSA / CCWI 2018 Joint conference.
