Biometric Authentication is the main stream to attract attention of researcher to develop algorithm for data and security concern. The palm vein biometric is emerging as the most promising physiological characteristic to develop efficient recognition system. This paper discuss about the new dimension to generate biometric trait key rather a template free key generation extracted by means of rigorous pattern recognition and information security tactics. The generation of key is exercised through mapping of certain digital image processing operation, distance metric computation and information security policies. The model of recognition system proposed that includes phases such as feature extraction and detection followed by the development of recognition technique based on unique and distinct detected palm vein feature characteristics. The proposed work gives novel and robust algorithm for the recognition of the subject. The experimental work gives result with 99.47% high rate of accuracy for the recognition of the subject.

We researched and developed a practical methodology for face and image retrieval (FIR) based on optimally weighted image descriptor ensemble. We describe a single-image-per-person (SIPP) face image retrieval system for real-world applications that include large photo collection search, person location in disaster scenarios, semi-automatic image data annotation, etc. Our system provides efficient means for face detection, matching and annotation, working with unconstrained digital photos of variable quality, requiring no time-consuming training, yet showing a commercial performance level at its sub-tasks. Our system benefits public by providing practical FIR technology, annotated image data and web-services to a real-world family reunification system.

digital map processing has been an interest in the image processing and pattern recognition community since the early 80s. With the exponential growth of available map scans in the archives and on the internet, a variety of disciplines in the natural and social sciences grow interests in using historical maps as a primary source of geographical and political information in their studies. Today, many organizations such as the United states Geological Survey, David Rumsey Map Collection, ***, and National Library of Scotland, store numerous historical maps in either paper or scanned format. Only a small portion of these historical maps is georeferenced, and even fewer of them have machine-readable content or comprehensive metadata. The lack of a searchable textual content including the spatial and temporal information prevents researchers from efficiently finding relevant maps for their research and using the map content in their studies. These challenges present a tremendous collaboration opportunity for the image processing and pattern recognition community to build advance map processing technologies for transforming the natural and social science studies that use historical maps. This paper presents the potentials of using historical maps in scientific research, describes the current trends and challenges in extracting and recognizing text content from historical maps, and discusses the future outlook.

This paper presents a method to retrieve words from Kannada documents. It works on Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Morphological filters. A large dataset of 50000 words is created using 250 document pages belongs to different categories. A preprocessed document image is segmented using simple morphological filters. The histogram channels are designed over four-sided cells (i.e. R-HOG) to compute gradients of a word image. In parallel, morphological erosion, opening, top and bottom hat transformations are applied on each word. The densities of the resultant images are estimated. Later on, HOG and morphological features are fused. Then, the cosine distance is used to measure the similarity between two words i.e., query and candidate word, based on it, the relevance of the word is estimated by generating distance ranks. Then correctly matched words are selected at threshold 98%. The experimental results confirm the efficiency of our proposed method in terms of the average precision rate 91.23%, and average recall rate 84.78% as well as average F-measure 89.47%.

Manual sorting/grading of oranges is done at wholesale markets/food processing factories based upon its maturity, size, quality and breeds. With an aim to replace the manual sorting system, this paper proposes the research work for automated grading of Oranges using pattern recognition techniques applied on a single color image of the fruit. This research is carried out on 160 Orange fruits collected from varied geographical locations in Vidarbha Region of Maharashtra. System designed can automatically classify an Orange fruit from this region, given its single color image of 640 x 480 pixel resolution, taken inside a special box designed with 430 lux intensity light inside it, by a digital camera. Only 4 features are used to classify oranges into 4 different classes according to the maturity level and 3 different classes as per size of oranges. In this paper two novel techniques based on pattern recognition are proposed Edited Multi Seed Nearest Neighbor Technique and Linear Regression based technique;although Nearest Neighbor Prototype technique is also deployed. Linear Regression based technique can explicitly predict the maturity of the unknown orange fruit, enabling classification into multiple classes with desired lifespan. Experimental results indicate success rate up to 90 % and 98 %. (C) 2016 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

This paper presents an application of LabVIEW and camera interface which is used for taking attendance in classroom. The system use a camera which is connected to PC on USB interface and attached to each and every classroom for taking snap of students presented. LabVIEW graphical programming environment is a tool for realizing the image acquisition and processing. This software has several advantages: simple implementation, modularity, flexibility, attractive user interface and possibility to develop very easy new features. Face recognition and machine vision applications in automatic inspection of various electronic modules can also be implemented using given algorithm.

Visually impaired people find navigating within unfamiliar environments challenging. Many smart systems have been proposed to help blind people in these difficult, often dangerous, situations. However, some of them are uncomfortable, difficult to obtain or simply too expensive. In this paper, a low-cost wearable system for visually impaired people was implemented which allows them to detect and locate obstacles in their locality. The proposed system consists of two main hardware components, a laser pointer ($12) and an android smart phone, making our system relatively cheap and accessible. The collision avoidance algorithm uses image processing to measure distances to objects in the environment. This is based on laser light triangulation. This obstacle detection is enhanced by edge detection within the captured image. An additional feature of the system is to recognize and warn the user when stairs are present in the camera's field of view. Obstacles are brought to the user's attention using an acoustic signal. Our system was shown to be robust, with only 5 % false alarm rate and a sensitivity of 90 % for 1 cm wide obstacles.

This paper proposes a method to establish joint ownership of digital images by embedding imperceptible digital pattern in the image. This digital pattern is generated from biometric features of more than one subject in a strategic matter so that the identification of individual subject can be done and the multiple ownership of the digital images can be established. This digital pattern was embedded and extracted from the image and the experiments were also carried out when the image was subjected to signal processing attacks. Coefficients of mid frequency band discrete cosine transform was used for embedding as these coefficients do not adversely affect the perceptual transparency and is also significantly robust to normal signal processing attacks. Experimental results indicate that the insertion of this digital pattern does not change the perceptual properties of the image and the pattern survives signal processing attacks which can be extracted for unique identification.
