It has been a decade since the ACM/IEEE CS2013 Curriculum guidelines recommended that all CS students learn about parallel and distributed computing (PDC). But few textbooks for "core" CS courses especially first-year courses include coverage of PDC topics. To fill this gap, we have written free, online, beginner- and intermediate-level PDC textbooks, containing interactive C/C++ OpenMP, MPI, mpi4py, CUDA, and OpenACC code examples that students can run and modify directly in the browser. The books address a serious challenge to leaching PDC concepts, namely, easy access to the powerful hardware needed for observing patterns and scalability. This paper describes the content of these textbooks and the underlying infrastructure that make them possible. We believe the described textbooks fill a critical gap in PDC education and will be very useful for the community.

The internet of Things (IoT) has led to the adoption of fog computing for data-intensive applications that require low-latency processing. Fog computing uses distributed nodes near the network edge to reduce delays and save bandwidth. To optimize resource usage and achieve goals in fog computing, task scheduling plays a crucial role. To tackle this challenge, we propose an approach based on genetic algorithms, inspired by genetics and natural selection. We evaluate GA algorithm based on their ability to complete tasks and prioritize them effectively. The results show that the genetic algorithm performs exceptionally well, completing more tasks and handling priorities efficiently. Its adaptability to changing situations enables optimal resource usage and task completion. Our findings underscore the significance of genetic algorithms in fog computing systems. The insights gained from this study contribute to the advancement of fog computing systems, benefiting IoT applications and services. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

The integration of Intelligent internet of Things (IoT) and Embedded Systems has made the design and development of embedded systems more intelligent and efficient. In embedded systems, simulation technology is an important tool that can be used to verify and test the correctness and reliability of the system. This article introduces a new embedded simulation technology based on the intelligent internet of Things, which can be used to complete simulation testing more quickly, improve the accuracy and precision of simulation, and reduce the cost of system development and testing. The core of this technology is to utilize the data collection, transmission, and processing functions of the intelligent internet of Things to input data from physical reality into the simulation system, achieving rapid construction of the simulation system and more accurate simulation results. At the same time, this technology also supports remote monitoring and control, enabling embedded systems to dynamically adjust and optimize during operation, improving system performance and reliability. © 2023 IEEE.

Edge computing combined with cloud computing has propelled the rise of intelligent internet of Things and has expedited its development, leading to new technologies and industries being created quickly. By joining these forces together, IoT's capabilities continue to improve. Adopting intelligent IoT systems at the edge creates considerable security concerns as these are susceptible to malicious attacks. In this article, we explore a security framework designed specifically for edge-driven systems. At first, we will present an introduction to edge driven intelligent IoT architecture and then discuss its typical applications. Next, we discuss specific security threats related to edge-driven IoT by looking at possible adversary behavior patterns;finally, we present a case study which investigates an intelligent edge-driven IoT system and examine its security - concluding by outlining future research directions in this rapidly developing field. © 2023 IEEE.

With the rapid development of sensor technology and internet technology, the amount of data collected in meteorological and scientific fields has soared. The data stored in NetCDF format is faced with the challenges of being damaged, difficult to recover, and frequent calls to disk resources. Although Hadoop distributed storage solutions have obvious advantages, HDFS based file system tools cannot be directly used for data processing due to their lack of support for the NetCDF format. Therefore, this article delves into the storage and write mechanism and block architecture of HDFS, and extends the read and write interface of NetCDF data to improve data portability, access efficiency, and sharing convenience, thereby providing strong support for scientific computing.

Recent developments in computer networking have made it possible to access information from a faraway location via either wireless or wired networks. The recent advancements in wireless infrastructure are directly responsible for the advent of wireless sensor networks, often known as WSNs. These networks make it easier to keep track of environmental happenings and activities, as well as document them and manage them. In WSNs, data relaying is accomplished through the use of a variety of routing strategies. Industry 4.0, also known as the fourth industrial revolution, is characterized by the incorporation of highly developed physical automation systems. These systems are made up of several pieces of machinery and gadgets that are linked together by sensors and are operated by software. The goal of the fourth industrial revolution is to improve the effectiveness and dependability of business processes. The internet of Things (IoT) can be leveraged in manufacturing, which gives a means of linking engines, power grids, and sensors to the cloud in an industrial context. This is accomplished through the use of Industrial IoT. The purpose of this paper is to gain an understanding of how the internet of Things functions in wireless sensor networks and its possible applications in a variety of settings. © 2024 IEEE.

The convergence of edge computing with Artificial Intelligence has accelerated growth of Edge AI, a transformative approach that brings intelligence straight to the point of data generation. Edge AI represents a transformative paradigm in artificial intelligence, facilitating information analysis and real-time decision making at the periphery of the network. This paper provides an overview of Edge AI, including its architectural models, key frameworks, and applications. Architectures such as Client-Server, Federated Learning, Pipeline, distributed, and Hierarchical are explored, along with frameworks like PyTorch Mobile, ONNX, TensorFlow Lite, and OpenVINO, which facilitate the implementation of Artificial Intelligence models at the edge. Advantages of adopting Edge AI, such as scalability, bandwidth efficiency, resilience, enhanced security, and reduced latency are discussed, highlighting its suitability for various applications across industries. Applications of Edge AI in healthcare, smart homes, industrial IoT, autonomous vehicles, and retail are also examined. Overall, Edge AI represents a pragmatic methodology to unlock the full potential of Artificial Intelligence at the edge, paving way for a more intelligent and connected world. © 2024 IEEE.

Due to the rapid growth of internetworking traffic, the management of congestion in the computer network is considered an important problem. In general, congestion control mechanisms aim to utilize the network resources effectively by reducing delay and packet loss. Active queue management (AQM) techniques have been developed as an efficient internet router mechanism for controlling network congestion and achieving stability. In this context, a feedback controller based on the Firefly Algorithm and a Proportional Integral Derivative Controller, which is called FA-PID, is designed to control the problem of network congestion and achieve stability and robustness against various network parameters. The proposed method stabilizes the queue length by increasing link utilization, minimizing queuing delays, and minimizing packet drop rates. The proposed method has been implemented using the MATLAB/Simulink model, and the experimental results have been discussed in TCP network environments. The simulation results showed the capability of the proposed method to achieve stability and robustness. In addition, it shows that the FA-PID reduced the packet drop rate and the average delay, as well as achieved better link utilization. The comparison results revealed demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed FA-PID method in comparison to alternative methods. © 2024 IEEE.

Through the utilization of elevated reality, people can indulge in various diversions and undertakings. The rise of the internet has created various new obstacles and opportunities for education and online learning. The previous generation of the internet was known as Web 1.0, which was initially designed as a Read-Only medium. Web 3.0, which is currently in development, is a more technologically advanced version of the web that enables people to perform various tasks and read and write. The development of Web 3.0 has led to the creation of new tools and technologies that can help support online learning and education. This essay aims to provide a brief overview of the various aspects of Web 3.0. The goal of Web 3.0 is to provide a more personalized and comprehensive education and learning experience. This research develops and optimizes an optical character recognition (OCR) system for goat weighing scales using intelligent computer vision and distributed computing to enhance accuracy and efficiency in real-world operational conditions. Images of the scales are captured and processed to remove noise, then recognized using deep learning algorithms. The implementation of distributed computing frameworks like Apache Hadoop and TensorFlow enables efficient parallel processing. Results show a 20% increase in OCR accuracy and a 30% improvement in processing efficiency compared to conventional systems. This integration provides a scalable and reliable solution for applications in the livestock industry, with potential adaptation for various operational conditions and other livestock types. © 2024 IEEE.
