engineering software for robotics applications requires multidomain and application-specific solutions. Model-driven engineering and modeling language integration provide means for developing specialized, yet reusable models of robotics software architectures. Code generators transform these platform independent models into executable code specific to robotic platforms. generative software engineering for multidomain applications requires not only the integration of modeling languages but also the integration of validation mechanisms and code generators. In this paper we sketch a conceptual model for code generator composition and show an instantiation of this model in the MontiArc-Automaton framework. MontiArcAutomaton allows modeling software architectures as component and connector models with different component behavior modeling languages. Effective means for code generator integration are a necessity for the post hoc integration of applicationspecific languages in model-based robotics software engineering.

programming skills are an important component of an engineering curriculum, not only because they enable the customization of software tools to be used in the profession, but also (and perhaps more crucially) because of the "computational thinking" and problem solving capabilities that are ideally developed by young students who learn to program for the first time. The necessity to expand the computing curriculum across a wider range of schools and university courses for students who are not majoring in Computer Science (CS)) it is well-documented in literature [1], as is the difficulty of teaching 21st century skills (***. This work presents an educational approach to teaching initial programming based on the development of fundamental and transversal skills and computer science skills, including creative and computational thinking as well as problem solving and critical thinking. The approach is based on cutting-edge educational tools, namely the visual programming frameworks Scratch, AppInventor, BYOB, and the well-known C/C++ language;curriculum material is drawn from CSPrinciples pilot courses, CS unplugged, school level preparation material for the international Olympiad in Informatics, and are complemented by supplementary information. The pedagogical approaches used in the course are based on constructivist learning theory, experiential learning and guided inquiry. This paper presents a year-long teaching experience in a 10th/13th grade high school with 14 to 16-year-old students. Ways to extend the experience to a university course are also presented. An initial analysis of the course results, both qualitative (based on two student surveys) and quantitative (based on formal written examinations) is presented and discussed. Results are encouraging, showing how visual programming languages help students to improve their problems solving skills and reasoning practices. Exposing the younger generation to computational concepts is fundamental in order to

Real-time hybrid simulation (RTHS) is an important tool in the design and testing of civil and mechanical structures when engineers and scientists wish to understand the performance of an isolated component within the context of a larger structure. Performing full-scale physical experimentation with a large structure can be prohibitively expensive. Instead, a hybrid testing framework connects part of a physical structure within a closed loop (through sensors and actuators) to a numerical simulation of the rest of the structure. If we wish to understand the dynamic response of the combined structure, this testing must be done in real-time, which significantly restricts both the size of the simulation and the rate at which it can be conducted. Adding parallelism to the numerical simulation can enable both larger and higher frequency real-time simulations, potentially increasing both the accuracy and the control stability of the test. We present a proof-of-concept exploration of the execution of real-time hybrid simulations (an exemplar of a more general class of cyber-mechanical systems) with parallel computations. We execute large numerical simulations within tight timing constraints and provide a reasonable assurance of timeliness and usability. We detail the operation of our system, its design features, and show how parallel execution could enable qualitatively better experimentation within the discipline of structural engineering.

Live programming is an idea espoused by programming environments from the earliest days of computing (such as Lisp machines and SmallTalk) but have since lain dormant. Recently, the prevalence of asynchronous feedback in programming languages such as Javascript and advances in visualizations and user interfaces have lead to a resurgence of live programming in online education communities (such as Khan Academy) and in experimental IDEs (such as LightTable). The LIVE 2013 workshop includes 11 papers describing visions, implementations, mashups, and new directions of live programming environments. The participants include both practitioners of live coding and researchers in programming languages and software engineering. Finally, several demos curated on the live workshop page are presented.

The purpose of this chapter is to establish a photovoltaic simulation system using mixed programming with LabVIEW and Simulink and compare the simulation results of three maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithms for the photovoltaic simulation system. The Matlab/Simulink is used in this chapter to establish the component models of the proposed photovoltaic simulation systems. LabVIEW is responsible for developing the virtual control interface and connects it with Simulink to perform simulation and analysis tasks. The proposed photovoltaic simulation system is developed by combining the models of solar modules and DC-DC boost converter with the tracking algorithms of perturbation and observation (P&O), incremental conductance (INC), and hill climbing (HC), respectively. The system will be simulated and analyzed under different weather conditions and MPPT algorithms. The simulation results will be shown on the interface of LabVIEW by mixed programming method. According to the comparisons of the simulation results, it can be observed that the photovoltaic simulation system can track the maximum power accurately using the three different MPPT algorithms, respectively. The simulation results can also be successfully displayed on the LabVIEW interface. The correctness and feasibility of the proposed photovoltaic simulation system is then validated. © 2013 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

In the context of component-based programming, which addresses the implementation stage of a component-based software engineering development process, this paper describes a specification and an operational integration of an inheritance system into a self-contained new component-based programming language named Compo. Our proposal completes and extends related works by making it possible to apply inheritance to the full description of components, i.e. both to structural (description of provisions and requirements, of component architecture) and behavioral (full implementations of services) parts in component descriptions. Inheritance in Compo is designed to be used in conjunction with composition to maximize reuse capabilities and expressive power. Compo implementation proposes a clear operational solution for inheritance and for achieving and testing substitutions. Copyright 2012 ACM.

generative and component approaches are revolutionizing software development just as automation and componentization revolutionized manufacturing. Key technologies for automating program development are generative programming for program synthesis, component engineering for modularity. In this paper we show the contribution of these two approaches in the implementation of a multi-target learning management system generator adaptable to different target runtime environment. This article introduces the basics of a new programming method of virtual learning environments. This approach is based on generative programming that integrates the user specifications (abstract models) and technologies desired in order to produce bricks software, then put them together to produce a solution adapted to area and users' needs. This idea is used at different levels in the design and implementation of our system LMSGENERATOR, a software factory for business components and platforms for distance learning. In this work, we present the challenges, the methodology followed and the implementation of our approach: LMSGENERATOR, with these two generation process and We promote the idea that using this approach based on open business models, adaptable, and scalable to obtain open learning environments, adaptable, and scalable. Specifically, thanks to the generative programming, new technologies or new needs can be easily integrated at any time merely by changing the generators. © 2012 IEEE.
