We extend the notion of content based image retrieval to patch retrieval where the goal is to find the similar patches to a query patch in a large image. Naive searching for similar patches by sequentially computing and comparing descriptors of sliding windows takes a lot of time in a large image. We propose a novel method to compute descriptors for all sliding windows independent from number of patches. We rely on tree representation of the image and exploit the histogram nature of pattern spectra to compute all the required descriptors in parallel. Computation time of the proposed method depends only on the number of tree nodes and is free from query selection. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed method to reduce the computation time and its potential for object detection in large images.

In the present world, lots of road accidents take place due to the lack of attention and alertness of driver. This is termed as driver drowsiness. This leads to a lot of unfortunate situations causing adverse damage to human lives. The main goal of this research is the detection of driver drowsiness and an appropriate response to the detection. There are many methods which are based on the motion of the vehicle or based on the driver's behavior. One of the methods is the physiological method which helps in distracting the driver from drowsiness and making him alert. And few methods require expensive sensors and deals with a lot of data. Therefore, this paper develops a system for detecting drowsiness in real time with proper procedure and accuracy which is acceptable. In this system, the driver's facial expressions are captured and recorded using a webcam. Every movement in each frame is detected using few techniques of image processing. The Eye Aspect Ratio, Mouth Opening Ratio, and Nose Length Ratio are calculated using the landmark points on the face. The calculated values are compared to the threshold values developed by the system and the difference in value leads to the detection. At the same time, the machine learning algorithms are also implemented in offline manner. Based on the classification, the system has successfully achieved 95.58% of sensitivity and 100% of specificity using Support Vector machine. This model system is compatible with all kinds of vehicles. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

This paper introduces an Artificial Neural Network model that integrates advanced deep learning techniques from computer vision and natural language processing domains. The model focuses on automating the captioning process for images, a crucial task in artificial intelligence. By employing Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Long Short-Term Memory Networks (LstMs), the model is trained to optimize the likelihood estimation of descriptive labels corresponding to each image in the dataset. Evaluation of the model’s performance includes both quantitative metrics and qualitative assessment using the state-of-the-art BLEU-1 scoring method.

Medical image processing plays a crucial role in pneumonia diagnosis and classification using chest X-ray images. This research investigates key phases of medical image processing, focusing on Preprocessing, Feature Extraction, and Classification. Texture analysis methods, notably Local Binary patterns (LBP) and Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM), have been widely employed in medical imaging due to the inher-ent importance of textures in medical images. The significance of robust feature extraction methods lies in their ability to identify complex patterns indicative of various medical issues. By conducting experiments on a public chest X-ray dataset, this research employs established machine-learning classifiers to evaluate the efficacy of LBP and GLCM. The findings highlight the superior performance of GLCM in capturing nuanced textu-ral features, showcasing its potential as a principal contributor to enhancing pneumonia classification accuracy. However, the combination of both techniques produces even superior outcomes. LBP, known for its proficiency in capturing local texture patterns, complements GLCM, which excels in extracting global statistical textural information. The combination of these methods enhances the feature space, incorporating both local variations and long-range dependencies, thereby enriching the disease-discriminating patterns, particularly in pneumonia cases. From a wider perspective, texture analysis methods play a crucial role in enhancing the comprehension of medical images, thereby improving the accuracy and reliability of diagnoses.

Heart arrhythmia, or irregular heart rhythm, is an extremely common heart affliction experienced by a large percent of the world's population every day, mostly going unnoticed. However, if left unchecked for an extended period of time, it poses an inherent risk to human life. Advancements in technology have enabled us to leverage the awesome computational power of graphics processing units in parallel in order to derive solutions to real life medical issues, by analyzing tremendous amounts of data in a relatively short amount of time. Owing to their ability to parse huge amounts of data and quickly perform multiple complex computations in parallel, machine learning algorithms have repeatedly and consistently outperformed humans in tasks such as pattern recognition and data analysis. Through this research project, we seek to contribute to the medical field by implementing deep learning technology along with machine learning algorithms into a system which can detect heart arrhythmias from electrocardiogram (ECG) reports quickly and effectively. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Audio-visual segmentation (AVS) is a challenging task that involves accurately segmenting sounding objects based on audio-visual cues. The effectiveness of audio-visual learning critically depends on achieving accurate cross-modal alignment between sound and visual objects. Successful audio-visual learning requires two essential components: 1) a challenging dataset with high-quality pixel-level multiclass annotated images associated with audio files, and 2) a model that can establish strong links between audio information and its corresponding visual object. However, these requirements are only partially addressed by current methods, with training sets containing biased audio-visual data, and models that generalise poorly beyond this biased training set. In this work, we propose a new cost-effective strategy to build challenging and relatively unbiased high-quality audio-visual segmentation benchmarks. We also propose a new informative sample mining method for audio-visual supervised contrastive learning to leverage discriminative contrastive samples to enforce cross-modal understanding. We show empirical results that demonstrate the effectiveness of our benchmark. Furthermore, experiments conducted on existing AVS datasets and on our new benchmark show that our method achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) segmentation accuracy 1 1 This work was supported by Australian Research Council through grant FT190100525.

The role of the agriculture sector in global economic development is important. The development of agriculture and growth in production is essential for achieving global food security. Diseases in plants/crops are the responsible agents for the loss of agricultural production globally. Most of the diseases in plants initially strike the leaves of the plant, later its symptoms are evident on all parts of the plant. The diseases significantly affect the quality and quantity of total crop production. Typically, plant diseases are identified through visual observation or laboratory investigations by phytopathologists, but this is very challenging for farmers or non-specialists. image processing and machine learning together can play an important role in helping farmers to identify the diseases in crops. The major steps in such methods generally include image acquisition, image pre-processing, image segmentation, feature extraction, and disease classification. This paper presents an analysis of some of the major classification techniques used in such methods. The experiments are carried out for two important crops Apple (Malus domestica) and Blackgram (Vigna mungo) to analyze baseline classifiers such as decision tree, naive Bayes, logistic regression, k-nearest neighbor, linear discriminant analysis, support vector machine, and random forest using plant leaf images. The leaf images of apple are taken from a benchmark PlantVillage dataset, while images of blackgram (urdbean) leaves are obtained from a self-prepared dataset. In both datasets, the leaf images contain a simple eliminated background. © 2021 IEEE.

Medical imaging helps doctors make more informed treatment decisions by providing a visual representation of the anatomy that can't be gleaned from a physical exam alone. Medical diagnosis relies heavily on the visual. Over the past few years, medical imaging has established itself as a crucial tool in the diagnosis of illness. Over the past few of decades, a number of medical imaging modalities have emerged, each with its own unique set of capabilities. These methods allow for the acquisition of images of the internal anatomical structures that need to be inspected, without the need to physically open the body. In this study, a system was suggested that uses a Hybrid Recurrent Neural Networks with Support Vector machine (HRNN-SVM) method to effectively remove white noise, salt and pepper noise, Gaussian and speckle noise from CT lung images. To enhance RNNs' discrimination skills, the SVM is implemented in the final RNN layer in the HRNN-SVM technique. Batch normalization is combined with residual learning to speed up the learning process and increase accuracy. In this study, LstM is used to carry out batch normalization. The Firefly Algorithm is used to determine the best batch size for batch normalization (FA). When compared to the PSO algorithm, it reduces the time required for training. To do this, the RNN's hidden layers are gradually splitting apart the image's structure from the noisy observation.

It is common knowledge that India’s economy depends heavily on agriculture. Agriculture productivity is the source of economic growth in India. However, plant diseases can directly affect the yields in agriculture and timely detection of diseases is a most difficult challenge for researchers due to the lack of specific techniques in detecting diseases of plants. Since the Jasmine crop is one of the fastest-growing crops in Tamil Nadu state India. This study examines the use of an image processing-based machine learning (ML) technique, which has five main phases, to identify diseases in jasmine plants. image acquisition, input image pre-processing, segmentation of the pre-processed images, feature extraction from the segmented images, and disease classification are the phases. Generally, Jasmine plants are affected by many diseases caused by bacterial, viral, and fungi. Among many diseases in Jasmine plants, this research focuses on detecting four types of common diseases, namely leaf spot, rust, powdery mildew, and turning yellow that occur on Jasmine plants. However pre-processing tasks can affect the performance of classification of diseases, there is a need for an efficient pre-processing technique which leads to better accuracy in detecting Jasmine plant diseases. Hence it is significant that the image data is pre-processed before the segmentation task for cleaning to overcome issues related to image data. And to avoid these issues, this paper focuses on image resizing, changing the color space of the images, etc. The image acquisition phase is carried out in real-time image sets which are collected from different Jasmine plant cultivation. Input images of Jasmine leaf with diseases are captured from the normal Android mobile camera or Android tab. The median filter is applied to the input images followed by bilateral filtering is implemented for contrast enhancement. In the medical field, computer vision systems, and especially image diagnostics, provide a wide range of useful tools. Computed tomography (CT) scans are the gold standard for identifying a wide variety of medical disorders, from bone fractures to lung cancer to heart disease (CT). One of the top four mortality rate disease in the world is lung cancer. The lung areas are divided up for clinical diagnostics after being defined. This study suggests combining supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques with the CNN and model specialization using R-CNN for lung area mapping to separate the lungs in CT images automatically. Accuracy of 99.21%, sensitivity of 99.33%, and specificity of 98.97% were achieved by our approach to lung tissue classification using a combination of a Mask Region - Convolutional Neural Network (MR-CNN) and a support vector machine. We checked our results against the work of other scientists to be sure we weren't missing anything. Our solution outperformed other state-of-the-art methods in terms of accuracy and speed.
