The emergence of pay-as-you-use compute clouds has enabled scientists to experiment with the latest processor architectures and accelerators. However, the lack of standardization in cloud computing, more specifically in the interoperability context, makes the task of portability of applications between clouds challenging. Two main tasks that users of multi-vendor clouds will need to perform are porting cost analysis and faster source-to-source translation. Cost analysis is essential to help evaluate the feasibility and cost of portability. And any automation of the source-to-source translation step will help developers perform the translation faster while taking advantage of platform-specific features. This paper presents a framework that assists a developer in performing these two tasks. The first task is achieved using the Maintainability Analyzer module which generates unique funnel shaped patterns that give an insight about the maintainability of an application and its potential for porting. Different scientific applications from various domains, that were developed using different programming paradigms, were evaluated using this module. For the second task, a set of modules use a knowledge repository to perform source-to-source translations while ensuring the maintainability of the generated code. The framework has been tested with different architecture and library combinations with promising results. © 2018, ICst Institute for Computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

In this article, we present a method for implementation of FFT based big integer multiplication acceleration for RSA encryption and decryption. The DIF (Decimation-In-Frequency) based FFT was utilized to compute the multiplication operation for two big integers. The algorithm is implemented on Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) by utilizing the CUDA programming model. This DIF method is similar to divide-and-conquer approach. In addition, we have concentrated on the efficiency of our proposed method by dealing with the optimal time use, efficient memory utilization and the data transfer time between host (CPU) to device (GPU) which has an impact on the complete computation time on the GPU. We compare our implementation between GPU and CPU and present the performance results. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

We investigate the performance of modified non orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) which uses the modified low complexity Vertical Bell Laboratories Layered Space Time (C-V-BLAst) in an uplink massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) deployment with distributed single-antenna users and a large base-station array. Unlike previous work which assumes no spreading, we focus on the scenario where signal spreading is included by using the Gold Code family. It is shown that the proposed scheme provides a significant performance improvement over the conventional V-BLAst system for a large MIMO deployment when the number of transmit and receive antennas are comparable by exploiting the extra dimension added by the spreading to mitigate the interference. However, for a massive MIMO system, both schemes provide similar performance. We also show that the proposed scheme has a much better performance when the average received power for the users is the same, a scenario that the C-V-BLAst scheme struggles with due to its dependence on the ordering of users according to their power levels. © 2018, ICst Institute for Computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering.

All structures built within known seismically active regions are typically designed to endure earthquake forces. Despite advances in earthquake resistant structures, it can be inferred from hindsight that no structure is entirely immune to damage from earthquakes. Active vibration control systems, unlike the traditional methods which enlarge beams and columns, are highly effective countermeasures to reduce the effects of earthquake loading on a structure. It requires fast computation of nonlinear structural analysis in near time and has historically demanded advanced programming hosted on powerful computers. This research aims to develop a new approach for active vibration control of frames, which is applicable over both elastic and plastic material behavior. In this study, the Force Analogy Method (FAM), which is based on Hook's Law is further extended using the Timoshenko element which considers shear deformations to increase the reliability and accuracy of the controller. The proposed algorithm is applied to a 2D portal frame equipped with linear actuator, which is designed based on full state Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). For comparison purposes, the portal frame is analysed by both the Euler Bernoulli and Timoshenko element respectively. The results clearly demonstrate the superiority of the Timoshenko element over Euler Bernoulli for application in nonlinear analysis. © The Authors, published by EDP sciences, 2018.

The paper reviews the different methods to improve the performance of a hydraulic system. Facing the environment problem, the efficient hydraulic hybrid system is highly demanded. Depending on the energy storage and controlling strategy of heavy vehicles the consumption of energy, emission of exhaust takes place. This paper first analyses the recent development of energy savings of the hydraulic powered heavy vehicle. The construction machinery and the automobiles use the same hybrid power system. An efficient process is designed to store the excess energy and use the same as and when demanded by the system having frequent start-stop characteristics. In the conventional method, heavy vehicles work on the lesser amount of fuel efficiency. Some of the state-of-the-art technical skills required to improve the overall efficiency and hence the fuel economy are surveyed in this article. Also, some challenges faced by the researchers and the manufacturers in this field are discussed. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Deceit identification or detection has become a topic of study from past few decades. Detecting lie is not only a legal issue, but also moral and ethical issue. Various lie detectors like polygraph have been developed which check body temperature, heart rate, pulse rate, blood pressure, etc., to detect whether a person is telling truth or not. But these polygraph tests give an indirect and incomplete knowledge of deception, so directly measuring mental activity of subject using brain–computer interface (BCI) was adopted which identifies the mental state of subject and detects lie. These lie detectors use P300 component of event-related potential (ERP) generated during mental task and acquired using electroencephalography (EEG). In our paper we have presented a survey on state-of-the-art techniques applied for analyzing and classifying innocent and guilty subjects. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Micro-services are activities that run in your own programs and communicate with HTTP APIS through lightweight devices. Under the Micro-service architecture, the API gateway is an important component of the overall architecture. It abstracts the common functions that are needed in the Micro-services. As the only entry for a Micro-service, the API gateway encapsulates the specific internal implementation and interface of the system. Based on the analysis and comparison of the traditional framework and the Micro-service framework, this paper mainly analyzes the realization of the functions: load balancing, automatic service blowing, and Gray release, and gives the implement scheme of the key technology of the API gateway under the Micro-service architecture. The scheme discusses the case study of the technology selection and application architecture under micro service. And it also provides a new solution for the difficulties in manage API gateway under micro service by giving a detailed design for the authentication of the API gateway, reverse proxy function and flow control function. By using API gateway, the problem of how a caller can call an independent service can be solved, thus the development efficiency can be greatly improved. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is a popular data format based on the data types of JavaScript programming language. As a lightweight semi-structured data format language, it has become the main data exchange format over the World Wide Web in the past several years, and gained popularity in database community research JSON data model describes the basic data structures and semantics of the underlying JSON data, so it is the fundamental and key aspects for JSON data format. As JSON data model is also the key and foundation for other data management technologies, such as data indexing, data querying, data searching, data mapping, data integrating, and data mining, how to design an efficient and powerful model for JSON data is necessary and important to other related research topics, such as data integration, data search and query, data quality and evaluation, etc. In this paper, we investigate some approaches to modelling JOSN data and corresponding JSON schemas, which are mainly based on tree models. The advantages and disadvantages of each method are analyzed and compared.

Designing a secure software system requires the ability to represent and reason about a wide variety of security concerns. Existing modelling representations lack a comprehensive set of security building blocks or lack support for composition or refinement of the design under consideration. We propose a new modular metamodel for representing these security designs. This model supports both composition for more complex solutions and representing different levels of abstraction to model the underlying details. This meta-model can subsequently be used for the construction of security solutions, supporting a wide range of mechanisms on a wide variety of abstraction levels, thereby providing a foundation for the security-by-design approach. © 2017 ACM.
