Transient stability (TS) software is a tool that is used to analyze the stability of power system after subjected a large disturbance. The transient stability software tool can be built by any approaches such as procedural programming, object-oriented programming (OOP), or component-oriented programming (COP). The component-oriented based on the object-oriented design (OOD) is proposed for developing the TS software in this paper. In the component development, use cases and sequence diagram models are required to identify the sub-system and process involved in the TS problem. The use-cases are made according to the components and objects required in the TS tool such as load flow solver, transient stability solver, linear solver, and object-oriented power system model (OO-PSM). A sequence diagram model represents the detailed process of a use case. Both use-case and sequence diagram models required for TS software tool are focused in this paper. The unified modeling language (UML) which is a standard object modeling for developing component- and object- oriented design is used to develop the use cases and sequence diagram models.

After first great enthusiasm about the new generation of component languages like ArchJava, ComponentJ and ACOEL, a closer inspection and use of these languages identified together with their strong points some smaller, but disturbing drawbacks. These might impede a wider acceptance of component languages, which would be harmful since the integration of architecture description with a programming language increases the emphasis on, and consequently the quality of application architecture. Therefore, we took an engineering approach to the construction of a new Java-based component language without these drawbacks. That means, we derived general component language requirements;designed a first language version meeting the requirements and developed a compiler;used it in several projects;and re-iterated three times through the same cycle with improved language versions. The result, called CompJava, which should be fairly stable by now, is presented in the paper.

Service technology is a component-oriented SOAP based interoperable technology widely adopted in Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and Business to Business (B2B). The decoupling is one of the most important features of service components that make Web services successful in the future. Software measurement plays an important role in today's software development. Decoupling metrics can be used to measure and evaluate the decoupling attributes of a distributed service oriented software architecture that has very significant impacts on the understandability, maintainability, reliability, testability, and reusability of software components. The decoupling metrics can also be used as a criterion for selection of existing service components for compositions. Many measurement metrics for decoupling have been proposed, however most measures are not specific for service component decoupling. This paper provides a practical guide for evaluating decoupling between service-oriented components in the service composition such as Business Process Execution Language (BEPL). A lower decoupled distributed software application will be much easy to understand, update, and expand in the future Coupling was originally defined as the measure of the strength of association established by a connection from one module to another. Most of the existing techniques and measuring coupling metrics are classified by procedural programming and object-oriented programming. In this paper we propose a decoupling metrics based on the black-box parameters of service stateness (stateless/stateful), interaction (one-way, two-way), service interface required(, service interface provided(supporting/supported interface), invocation modes(sync/async), self-containment(stand-alone/indirect dependent), implicit invocation (blocking/non-blocking), and binding modes(static/dynamic). © 2006 IEEE.

Programmable vertex processing unit increases the programmability and enables customizations of transformation and lighting in the graphics pipeline. Furthermore, it offers various effects such as procedural vertex animation and deformation, which were impossible to handle in fixed vertex processing. Since it is hard to find a programmable graphics hardware for the embedded systems such as mobile phones, we’ve designed and implemented a programmable vertex processing unit based on the OpenGL ES 2.0 specification. In this paper, we explain the architecture, instruction format, implementation and test results of our vertex processing unit. © IFIP international Federation for Information Processing 2006.

This report summarizes the outcomes of the 9th Workshop on Aspect-Oriented Modeling (AOM) held in conjunction with the 9th international conference on Model Driven engineering Languages and Systems – MoDELS 2006 – in Genoa, Italy, on the 1st of October 2006. The workshop brought together approximately 25 researchers and practitioners from two communities: aspect-oriented software development and software model engineering. It provided a forum for discussing the state of the art in modeling crosscutting concerns at different stages of the software development process: requirements elicitation and analysis, software architecture, detailed design, and mapping to aspect-oriented programming constructs. This paper gives an overview of the accepted submissions and summarizes the results of the different discussion groups. Papers and presentation slides of the workshop are available at .

In this article we contribute to the issue of documenting architectural description with UML. Describing the architecture of a software system using UML notations is a tricky task due to the lack of explicit support for architectural description concepts. Thus, we try to define a strategy to map any ADL into UML, particularly UML 2.0. Our strategy is based on constructing a meta ADL that next can be mapped into MOF. We show how this strategy can be used by mapping COSA architectural description concepts into UML 2.0

The SMIL specification, which was recently approved by the W3C, is meant to help deliver multimedia contents to the Web. It is widely used these days and there has been continuously emerging tools and software related to it. In this paper, we propose a system to interchange from temporal scripts of RASP, an experimental toolkit for computer animation that promotes interaction-based programming over time, to a SMIL document. The main contribution of this paper is that it verifies the sequence diagram generated for synchronization of SMIL documents by reconverting SMIL from UML sequence diagram. UML sequence diagram is useful to express various relations of dynamic animation components between RASP tool kits and SMIL document

We propose an optimized implementation of the Fourier-Motzkin (FM) algorithm for computing all nonnegative, minimal-support invariants of ordinary Petri nets. The FM algorithm is optimized by detecting the parallel place sets created during each of its iteration, and retaining just one member of each set while deleting the rest. The intermediate invariants obtained are then used to generate all minimal-support invariants using an optimized invariant generation process. Experimental results indicate that the proposed algorithm is at least 2.2X faster in execution and requires at least 1.8x less memory than other comparable algorithms
