An information retrieval system stores and indexes documents such that when users submit a query, the system gets relevant documents and assigns a score to each one. The higher the score, the more important the document is. IR systems typically yield vast result sets, and users must spend a significant amount of time sifting through them to identify the elements that are genuinely important. Different suggestions for applying evolutionary computing to the topic of information retrieval will be reviewed from the specialist literature. To do so, researchers looked at a variety of IR issues that were addressed using evolutionary algorithms. Some of the current ways will be detailed in detail;for example, when dealing with specialized domain knowledge, this challenge can be solved by embedding a knowledge base into existing information retrieval systems that illustrates the relationships between index words. The fuzzy set theory may be used to change the knowledge in the bases to cope with the ambiguity that is typical of human knowledge. In this work, a novel way for implementing a similarity measure utilizing fuzzy logic for IR is provided. A suggested similarity metric is based on many IR system attributes that boost IR system performance. This method's strength is that it can extract the majority of a document's characteristics. Fuzzy rules, which translated domain knowledge into fuzzy sets, were also designed to make this most effective. Our suggested similarity metric is validated using the CACM and CRAN benchmark datasets. © The Electrochemical Society

We describe a new sequentialization-based approach to the symbolic verification of multithreaded programs with shared memory and dynamic thread creation. Its main novelty is the idea of memory unwinding (MU), i.e., a sequence of write operations into the shared memory. For the verification, we nondeterministically guess an MU and then simulate the behavior of the program according to any scheduling that respects it. This approach is complementary to other sequentializations and explores an orthogonal dimension, i.e., the number of write operations. It also simplifies the implementation of several important optimizations, in particular the targeted exposure of individual writes. We implemented this approach as a code-to-code transformation from multithreaded into nondeterministic sequential programs, which allows the reuse of sequential verification tools. Experiments show that our approach is effective: it found all errors in the concurrency category of SV-COMP15. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2015.

Time of Arrival (ToA) is a popular technique for terrestrial positioning. This paper presents a comparison of ToA based residual related positioning algorithms in wireless terrestrial and sensor networks in both long range outdoor and short range indoor environments. Using ToA distance measurement error models in both environments, we compare the performance of the Least Square Estimation (LSE), Residual Weighting (Rwgh), Iterative Minimum Residual (IMR), Select Residual Weighting (SRwgh) and Lower-Computational-Cost Residual Weighting (LCC-Rwgh) algorithms. The latter three algorithms are inherited from the Rwgh algorithm for wireless sensor networks. Two aspects of the performance comparison are addressed: computational complexity and positioning accuracy. In performance comparison, the complexity comparison is done by analyzing the number of LSE iterations while the accuracy comparison is conducted through a set of simulations in both environments.

Proposes a new algorithm to carry out classification of symbolic data using fuzzy set theory without any a priori assumption. The aim is to show how to apply fuzzy concepts to symbolic data. The new algorithm involves two stages. In the first stage, the number of classes present in the data is found using a cluster indicator, and in the second stage, fuzzy descriptions on symbolic data have been developed. The proposed work is new in the sense that no research work has previously been reported on the application of fuzzy concepts to symbolic data classification. The results of the proposed algorithm are compared with other symbolic clustering techniques.

Automatic detection of public transport (PT) usage has important applications for intelligent transport systems. It is crucial for understanding the commuting habits of passengers at large and over longer periods of time. It also enables compilation of door-to-door trip chains, which in turn can assist public transport providers in improved optimisation of their transport networks. In addition, predictions of future trips based on past activities can be used to assist passengers with targeted information. This article documents a dataset compiled from a day of active commuting by a small group of people using different means of PT in the Helsinki region. Mobility data was collected by two means: (a) manually written details of each PT trip during the day, and (b) measurements using sensors of travellers’ mobile devices. The manual log is used to cross-check and verify the results derived from automatic measurements. The mobile client application used for our data collection provides a fully automated measurement service and implements a set of algorithms for decreasing battery consumption. The live locations of some of the public transport vehicles in the region were made available by the local transport provider and sampled with a 30-s interval. The stopping times of local trains at stations during the day were retrieved from the railway operator. The static timetable information of all the PT vehicles operating in the area is made available by the transport provider, and linked to our dataset. The challenge is to correctly detect as many manually logged trips as possible by using the automatically collected data. This paper includes an analysis of challenges due to missing or partially sampled information, and initial results from automatic recognition using a set of algorithms comparing measured trips with both live vehicle locations and static timetables. Infrastructure wireless mesh networks are a promising technology for cost-effective broadband provision which utilise consumer access points to relay data through the network, hence requiring little fixed infrastructure. Because of this, during the initial network rollout, relatively low investment in infrastructure has the potential to give good levels of coverage within the network area. However, to achieve the necessary levels of coverage for a financially viable network, they require a sufficiently high take up among the potential subscribers in the network area. Previous work has shown how optimisation algorithms can be utilised to assign individual subscription prices to potential subscribers in order to maximise the coverage and revenue achieved, while reducing the need for dedicated seed nodes. In this paper we use these techniques to investigate in detail the effect of the relationship between consumer demand and subscription price on the design of optimised mesh networks.

This paper discusses the design and the field programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of a blind adaptive time-domain equalizer intellectual property (IP) core for asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) systems. The design can be configured to implement the low-complexity adjacent lag auto-correlation minimization algorithm (LALAM) and adjacent lag auto-correlation minimization algorithm using moving average method (ALAM-MA) to shorten the channel. The IP core is implemented for the Xilinx Vertix II Pro XC2VP7-FF672-5 to be used in ADSL receivers. The implementation operates at a maximum frequency of 27 MHz and 38 MHz for ALAM-MA and LALAM algorithms, respectively. Simulation at all levels including the gate level simulation is performed and compared with the floating point simulation of the algorithms.

In this paper a novel algorithm is presented for the efficient two-dimensional (2-D) symmetric noncausal finite impulse response (FIR) filtering and autoregressive (AR) modeling. Symmetric filter masks of general boundaries are allowed. The proposed algorithm offers the greatest maneuverability in the 2-D index space in a computational efficient way. This flexibility can be taken into advantage if the shape of the 2-D mask is not a priori known and has to be dynamically configured.< >

The ethical and philosophical problems concerning the cooperation of AI systems and human artists are also examined in this study. In addressing authorship, agency, and the very essence of creation, the changing position of artists as co-creators with intelligent algorithms is explored. It also looks at how AI can question and change conventional ideas of creative competence. Additionally, this study looks into how AI affects the promotion and distribution of art. AI-driven marketing tactics provide improved targeting of customers, personalized experiences, and optimal promotional efforts by utilizing insights based on data and predictive analytics. The study focuses on how these developments transform the relationships between galleries and artists and their patrons, ultimately fostering a more varied and inclusive art scene. The system's potential in many healthcare scenarios has been validated through simulations and practical experiments, which have received excellent feedback from healthcare providers. A critical review emphasizes the need to address practical deployment issues and data security concerns, while also highlighting the exciting convergence of IoT healthcare devices and DDRL. The paper ends with suggestions for more research, highlighting the significance of ethical issues, user interface improvements, and real-world validation. Through the smooth integration of DDRL-enhanced Internet of Things (IoT) medical equipment into clinical practice, our research eventually improves patient care and transforms the delivery of healthcare. © 2023 IEEE.

We study the performance of conditional entropy-constrained vector quantizers when used to quantize subbands of the displaced frame differences derived from video sequences. Chou and Lookabaugh (1990) originally suggested a locally optimal design of this new kind of vector quantizer which can be accomplished through a generalization of the well known entropy-constrained vector quantizer (ECVQ) algorithm. This generalization of the ECVQ algorithm to a conditional entropy-constrained is called CECVQ, i.e., conditional ECVQ. The non-memoryless quantization performed by the conditional entropy-constrained VQ is based on the current vector to be encoded and the previous encoded vector. A new algorithm for conditional entropy-constrained vector quantizer design is derived and it is based on the pairwise nearest neighbour technique presented by Equitz (1989).< >
