Code examples are key resources for helping programmers to learn correct Application Programming Interface (API) usages efficiently. However, most framework and library APIs fail in providing sufficient and adequate code examples in corresponding official documentations. Thus, it takes great programmers' efforts to browse and extract API usage examples from websites. To reduce such effort, this paper proposes a graph-based pattern-oriented mining approach, LFM-OUPD (Local fitness measure for detecting overlapping usage patterns) for API usage facility, that recommends proper API code examples from data analytics. API method queries are accepted from programmers and corresponding code files are collected from related API dataset. The detailed structural links among API method elements in conceptual source codes are captured and generate a code graph structure. Lancichinetti et al. proposed an overlapping community detecting algorithm (Local fitness measure, LFM), based on the local optimization of a fitness function. In LFM-OUPD, a mining algorithm based on LFM is presented to explore the division of method sequences in the directed source code element graph and detect candidates of different API usage patterns. Then a ranking approach is applied to obtain appropriate API usage pattern and code example candidates. A case study on Google Guava is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach.

Retinal image analysis is employed to automate screening process through low-level feature extraction and classification. Supervised classification approaches are dependent on kernels or distance metrics to handle complex manifolds as they warp feature space for effective classification with less complex boundaries between classes. Proposed approach identifies control points (Voronoi diagram) by exploring the structures of class specific manifolds which constructs complex boundaries with piecewise linear nature. Such a framework has less number of hyperparameters to tweak resulting easy control and understanding of the system. The learning characteristics of the proposed algorithm has been depicted on toy and optical coherence tomography data set. It has illustrated effective performance in identification of retinal pathologies and compared against off-the-shelf classifiers with various parameters. Proposed algorithm is capable of accommodating unsupervised approaches other than Fuzzy C-Means reflecting its adaptability.

Sequential data containing series of events with timestamps is commonly used to record status of things in all aspects of life, and is referred to as temporal event sequences. learning vector representations is a fundamental task of temporal event sequence mining as it is inevitable for further analysis. Temporal event sequences differ from symbol sequences and numerical time series in that each entry is along with a corresponding time stamp and that the entries are usually sparse in time. Therefore, methods either on symbolic sequences such as word2vec, or on numerical time series such as pattern discovery perform unsatisfactorily. In this paper, we propose an algorithm called event2vec that solves these problems. We first present Event Connection Graph to summarize events while taking time into consideration. Then, we conducts a training Sample Generator to get clean and endless data. Finally, we feed these data to embedding neural network to get learned vectors. Experiments on real temporal event sequence data in medical area demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method. The procedure is totally unsupervised without the help of expert knowledge. Thus can be used to improve the quality of health-care without any additional burden.
