In this paper, the 3-input and 2-output watersupply system of the controlled watereurtain cooling process inthe Steel Plate Mill of Shougang Group (in Beijing, China) ismodeled with fuzzy modeling method based on compositionalrule of inference. Then, computer simulations are conductedusing MATLAB. The simulation results demonstrate that theobtained models can approximate the dynamic response of theobjective system very well.

A new bidirectional nondissipative batteryequalization scheme for the series battery strings is proposedin this paper. The proposed scheme comprises a convertercircuit with an energy transferring capacitor, which can beused to design the bidireetional nondissipative current diverterfor the battery balancing system. Simulation and experimentalresults show that the proposcd battery cqualization schemecan balance the voltage of the battery strings and incrcase theequalizing efficiency. Furthermore, the equalization schemecan be designed as a ripple-free conveter for improving theinput current distortion of the battery charging power system.

Segmenting an image into text and *** is very important for compressing efficientlydocument image. This paper introduces a across-scalefusion approach to segment document image, whichmake use of the multiscale down-sampling bi-levelimages and the Markov tree model in orde to directlycalculate the classification based original image to besegmented. The main process of the method is dividedinto classification stage and segmentation stage. In thefirst stage, we separate picture from text blocks basedon multiscale bi-level images. Then we segment theimage into the foreground level and the backgroundlevel in the second stage. The paper describes in detailmultiscale representation of image, the Markov tree,likelihood computation for classifying image blocks,and a modified bi-color clusering algorithm forsegmenting the non-picture area.

Effort to incorporate interactive multimediatechnology in the teaching of engineering materials at theUniversity Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia has been initiated. Thepreliminary work involve the construction of a lecture set ofinteractive multimedia tutorials to facilitate the teaching ofintroductory first year course such as engineering materialsthat is taught in the Bachelors of Mechanical Engineeringprogram. The topics that have been covered in this firstprototype system include microstructure development andphase equilibrium diagram. The ultimate goal of the project isto gain the perception of the local students and to understandhow best to integrate such technology in the teaching ofengineering subjects such as engineering materials.

SMART System and Okapi System are twodistinguished information retrieval (IR) *** former one uses Vector Space Model and thelater one uses probabilistic retrieval strategy. Alot of previous research of information retrievalwas carried out on these two systems, whichshowed that both of them were effective in IR. Inthis paper, we carry out a series of experimentson TREC-9 collections to discuss the differentperformance between these two kinds of retrievalsystems in Chinese information retrieval. Ourexperimental results show that the performanceof Okapi System is better than that of SMARTSystem in some degree.

One of the important problems in OFDM system is thelarge PAPR of the output signal, which can result the significantsignal distortion in presence of nonlinear *** reduce thePAPR, we use fundamentally the level clipping and propose themodified mapping & demapping method for effective reducing thePAPR of the OFDM signals with level clipping. We can significantlyimprove the BER performance characteristics for the OFDM system. We discussed, through extensive computer simulations the effectsof level clipping and modified mapping & demapping method on theperformance of OFDM system, but there is a trade-off that hasomething to do with bandwidth and data rate.

This research describes an innovative loadforecasting scheme employing a neural network (NN) with agenetic algorithm (GA). The new load forecasting technique iscompared with the conventional NN approaches, which cansuffer from the local minima problem. Employing GA to searchfor the initial weights and biases of NNs allows the NN weightsand biases to be easily optimized. The proposed NNs with GAload forecasting scheme (NNGA) has been tested with dataobtained from a case study. The experimental evaluations havedemonstrated the accuracy and effectiveness of the scheme tosupport distribution operation. Forecast results, when comparedwith the actual historical load data, show that the load predictedhas an averge error of 7.31% Which is lower than theconventional NN by 0.77%.

To generate pitch contour in high quality is a veryimportant issue for each TTS system. Until now, the naturalness ofit is still far from being satisfactory. in this paper, a trainableprosody model, based on neural network, is described for MandarinTTS system. Extensive tests show that the structure of the neuralnetwork characterizes the Mandarin prosody more accurately thantraditional models. The naturlness of the result has been improveda lot and the system performs more flexible in ***, personal and task specific characteristics are *** paper adopts a fuzzy clustering algorithm in classifying thepitch contours of the Mandarin syllables. The algorithm has beenproved much useful to optimize the neural network and make itsuitable to deal with the pitch contours of Mandarin.

Semilightpath algorithm to establish simultanc-ous wavelength routing and wavelength assign-ment (RAW) in WDM cross-counect has beenconsidered to quantify blocking probability, thebenefit of wavelength conversion, conversion gainand fairness in regular and irregular WDM net-work topologies. The distinet superiority of thepresent algorithm over other RAW algorithms hasbeen established from the performance results ob-tained through detailed network simulation.
