The Personal Access Communication System (PACS) is alower-tier personal communication system developed andproposed by Bellcore in 1992. PACS supports a widerange of services, such as voice services, circuit dataservices and packet mode services, etc., in severaloperating environments. The PACS packet mode dataservice, PACS Packet Channel (PPC), is consistent andcompatible with circuit mode services. However, thevarious application Quality of Service (QoS) requirementsare not specified in the standard. In this paper, we proposea new concept of QoS attributes over PACS PPC *** addition, we also provide solutions for implementation.

We developed the remote boiler control system based oninternet to enhance the flexibility with minimum change of thestructure of the conventional boiler system. Hello Device 1300is applied to the system as a web server between ethernet and theboiler system manufactured by Kiturami Boiler Co., which isaccessible from the HD 1300 via RS0232 serial terminal. Thedeveloped control system is operated on client program based onJava Applet independently from OS. Some experimental resultshows the reliability and flexibility of the proposed system.

This paper proposes a state of the art control system for a servicerobot based on the service/client architecture of Jini over an opennetwork. Jim based on Java runnable on multi-platform is themiddleware technology which is designed for network plug-and-play, no hardware/software distinction, spontaneous networkingand simple connecting procedure. This paper shows thearchitecture of the Java-runnable embedded system and resourcesharing technique based on the Jini technology. Basically theproposed system is open to various client devices such as PC,PDA(Personal Digital Assistance) and possibly informationappliances, differently from the conventional remote controlsystems which use only PC as its client environment to accessthe robot service. The target robot is teleoperable via thestandard point-and-click mouse commands over the World WideWeb. Some experimental results show the efficiency of theproposed near on-line control system which is designedaccording to the proposed procedure in this paper.

As object-oriented paradigm becomes the mainstreamparadigm on software development, due to its attractivefeatures that can effectively divide a complex softwareproblem into several independent modules, one of theobject-oriented languages - Java, becomes popular inrecent years because it is widely used in the rapidlygrowing Internet computing. However, similar to otherobject-oriented languages, Java has a big drawback of poorperformance. One of the main causes of the performance deficiencyis the extensive use of dynamic memory allocations anddeallocations during object or array creations anddestructions. Even a simple Othello applet game easilyrequires half a million of memory allocations for only onegame play. After analysis on the memory allocation behavior ofJava programs, it is concluded that about 99% of theallocations are of sizes less than 1024 bytes. The analysisalso shows that most of the allocated chunks in small sizewill survive only a very short period of time and after theyare garbage collected, they can be reused in the very nearfuture. This implies the memory allocation / deallocationpattern in Java is bounded to a certain kind of locality. The information presented in this paper is a referencefor designing an efficient hardware memory allocation /deallocation unit.

Combination of the exponential growth of Internet and theexplosive increase of wireless network births thetrend--an increasing demand for wireless Internet. Thiswork discusses next generation wireless Internet, mainlyfocusing on the next generation cellular mobile system 4G(4th Generation), WLAN (Wireless Local AreaNetwork)/WPAN (Wireless Personal Area Network) forfuture, and IPv6 backbone of future network. For 4G, itsdefinition and features are discussed, also some of itstrends are presented after the example of NTT DoCoMo'ssuccess and the analyses of competition of i-mode ***. For WLAN/WPAN, some standards andspecifications, such as ieee802.11, ieee802.15, homeRF,HIPERLAN2, bluetooth, etc., are compared and someprospects are proposed. For IPv6 backbone, its advantagesand the way to realize it are considered. The paperconcludes with some tendencies worldwide from theviewpoint of technology and market.

An average 1.6kb/s low bit and variable rate speechcoder based on local cosine transform (LCT) algorithm for atwo-way conversational speech is designed for the first timein the paper. The result of the voice activity detector (VAD)based on support vector machine (SVM) and theclassification method of the voicing modes of the GSM halfrate standard for active speech are adopted in the design ofthe variable bit rate coder. The moderately voiced mode andthe strongly voiced mode of the voicing modes are combinedas a voicing mode, the new combined voicing mode isnamed as a moderately and strongly voiced mode. A fewsegment vector quantizers of the LCT coefficients for eachvoicing mode and silence voicing frame (background noise)are employed, and LGB algorithm is applied to design thecodebooks. A tree fast search technique is used to select thevector of the LCT coefficients for each segment. Theevaluation using subject informal listening tests and a fewobject parameters indicates that the speech quality(intelligibility and naturalness) of the designed speech coderis better than that of the FS1015 standard coder. The newcoder has higher robust than the FS1015 standard coder,which is suitable for speech coding in any environments.

In distributed computing systems, load balancing is one of the mostimportant factors that affect the system performance. This paper presentsa sender-mitiated dynamic load balancing policies in a distributedcomputing system. There are four policies consisted in the proposedExtenics-based Load Balancing Mechanism (ELBM). For the transferpolicy, instead of defining a fixed threshold value in the traditional loadbalancing policies, we are applying the extension set theory and usingthe average response time of jobs as a factor to create an adaptivethreshold value which is calculated by relational function of averageresponse time, for determining that a new arriving job should bemigrated or not In addition to the transfer policy, bypass-transfer methodis used in the location *** that need to be migrated do not needto be transferred to central node first, but are transferred to destinationnode directly, so as to reduce the communication costs. In order to makethe system more reliable, a template queue is added at the master node ofthe system to reduce the job arrival failure. A simulation model has beenbuilt for evaluating the performance of the system. Comparing with otherload balancing mechanisms, such as RT and ALBCII algorithms, thesimulation results show that a better performance can be achieved by theproposed mechanism.

The efficient distribution of stored information has becomea major concern in the Internet. Since the web workloadcharacteristics shows that more than 60% of network traffic iscaused by image documents, how to efficiently distributeimage documents from servers to end clients is an importantissue. Proxy cache is an efficient solution to reduce networktraffic. And it has been shown that an image caching method(Graceful Caching) based on hierarchical coding formatshowed better performance than conventional cachingschemes in recent years. However, as the capacity of the cacheis limited, how to efficiently allocate the cache memory toachieve a minimum expected delay time is still a problem to beresolved. This paper presents an integrated caching algorithm to dealwith the above problem in the Internet. By analyzing the webrequest distribution of Graceful Caching, both replacementand pre-fetching algorithms are proposed. We also show thatour proposal can be carried out based on information readilyavailable in the proxy server and it flexibly adapts itsparameters to the hit rates and access pattern of users'requesting documents in the Graceful Caching. we finallyverify the performance of this algorithm by simulations.

For the purpose of this study, weimplemented a trustworthy video transmission systemthrough turbo code. which has excellent errorcorrection ability. in order to restore data erroreffectively generated by noise when transmitting realtime data, security data, video data, etc. The imageprocessing system. NTSC (National Television SystemCommittee) video signal from CCTV, and videocamera. etc. were converted from analog to digital(A/D conversion) transmission through a videodecoder. The converted digital image information wasoutput into two image fields. In this study, by applyingthe algorithm in which one field was selected of thetwo, we made a logic circuit of the ErasableProgrammable Logic Device (EPLD) and implementedthe system that reduces digital video data by half. Inthe encoder/decoder system of the turbo code, theturbo code was implemented using the Digital SignalProcessor (DSP) with which real number calculation ispossible. The interleaver part that affects theperformance of the turbo code was designed byapplying a block interleaver.

A 900MHz CMOS power amplifierwith digitally controllable output has beendesigned using 0.6um standard CMOS *** designed power amplifier has a 4nH load ofintegrated spiral inductor and composed ofdigitally controllable switch-mode pre-amplifiersand class-C output stage. Especially, Q-enhancement circuit compensates low Q ofintegrated spiral inductor and is operating ascascode amplifier, also. The output power of designed amplifier can becontrolled from 3dBm to 13.5dBm using thepropused power control method. Under 3V powersupply voltage, the maximum PAE(Power AddedEfficiency) is 55% at 900MHz input frequency.
